Observations on Religion

Simply my observations throughout my lifetime so far. This is not to be discussed as I do not intend to argue my points but rather wish to see others' point-of-views as my life progresses.

Religion.....a concept of more controversy than any other subject known to human philosophy. What is religion? How did it come into perspective to human lives as a concept to begin with? Why is there so much controversy and contradictions? More importantly, why does religion seem to have so many holes and unexplainable teaching that many fear to question....yet eagerly and willingly have the obligation to advertise a religion that they themselves are incapable of fully comprehending?

These questions often come into mind along with simplistic answers formed from opinions based on observations. Religion, to me, is nothing more than a basic guide to maintain good morals in a person's everyday life. I suppose unexplainable events that happened in the past along with the present are used to justify what's worshiped in religion....usually due to laziness to explain or blind faith. Despite how intelligent a person is about seeking logical facts and explanations, many intellects continue to believe in the supernatural teachings of their religion without question. A case in which puzzles me.

Most philosophers question religion and doubt its existence, which usually means that the majority of philosophers don't believe in religion but rather in science instead. I find it odd that I myself am a philosopher, yet believe in religious teachings of Christianity....often resulting in my inner thoughts of logic and faith constantly contradicting themselves. But due to this, I have been able to use religion to explain scientific occurrences and vice versa. So I don't understand why some people attempt to contradict religion by bringing up evolution against the concept that all things were created by God, rather than believing that maybe God set up our creation in a process-based form known as evolution. Or maybe God set up sequential events to make a more major event take place....such as forming reactions to cause the Big Bang in order to bring about the formation of earth....or creating atoms to make elements so people can have resources....or even the fact that maybe God made things happen in a way that science can explain through logical explanations so that people won't be clueless and aware of why something happened or how something works.

I have no idea how other religions came about, nor do I know how most of them managed to possess more than one God. I am not here to judge but it appears that Christianity is the only one with actual proof of God's existence. If Jesus was indeed the son of God, then the widely questioned concept that man may have created God is false and should therefore be discarded as a concept. It seems that people are making up excuses not to believe there is a higher power due to a misguided pride in their own humanity and thus deny God's existence. And yet, they are willing to believe that life has no purpose and everyone will just live and die with nothing to look forward to. Really? Think about that for a second. That kind of logic automatically tells me that they lack self-confidence or pride and are not likely to get very far in life. Moving on.....

Now that leads me to Jehovah Witnesses. I have always questioned their logic everytime they show up at my door. I see that some of their views and teachings are contradicting within itself. Their teachings don't exactly promote positivity and they seem to be stuck-up people. I have come to notice that most of are self-centered and spiteful at times, mostly isolating themselves from other people. This may not be entirely true for every person that is a part of it so I am not bashing any particular person in general like most others do with christians. From what I've observed, it seems the Jehovah practice is not a religion but rather more of a system of rules that a group of individuals came up with in order to separate themselves from christians who are often accused of hypocrisy.....something that I find very ironic by the way.

Why are christians accused of hypocrisy? Is it because most christians are known to push their beliefs on others; often quoting the bible and judging/condemning those of different religion, yet commit immoral acts that contradict their claims? Or is it also the belief of a higher power that many refuse to accept? What if other religions involve the same god, only in different forms? These ideas of different gods are the reasons for conflict between religions.....or are they?

Is it not a possible factor that maybe many of the conflicts are based on pride just as groups like gangs, clubs, and organizations have? People put down other religions to justify their own, which contradicts the basic point in it to begin with. If religion is based solely on good morals and good-will toward their fellow people....or a guide to a balanced life, then everyone that downs another religion is a hypocrite. Meaning that everyone is wrong and the controversy between religions have less to do with ideas, but rather more due to arrogant pride no different from petty gang rivalries.

I don't approve of conflict, everyone has their own free will to believe what they want, as long as it doesn't hurt others, of course. I don't really believe in any religion due to no solid proof, I don't let the bad experiences of being forced to go to church affect my choices. However, I don't agree that science is always right either. We are humans, we are not perfect, humans made both science and religion, I see flaws in this, even though I am not perfect myself.

One thing I believe is possible is that people can be reborn, or reincarnation. I have had past memories of another life myself, perhaps deja vu can fall into this catogory as well....however, it's evidence, not proof, so, I don't believe in it fully, I just believe it is likely.

Religion tends to rise from a basic need of people. Something to lean on, to comfort us from the big world we live in. As you said, they then develop to provide a moral guide to live by.

Christianity, being a middle eastern religion at its creation, has evolved and developed to fit in culturaly with European and Western life. The major Christian events of the year take place in Winter and Spring, times when in early Medieval times, the population had little else to do. Religion was a filler and Christianity was perfect because it hit the right months as important. Not much happens through the summer and autumn in the christian calender and this is largely because it was the busiest time for workers and peasants and such.

Christianity doesn't have solid proof of God's existence, you cant argue that Jesus being the son of God is proof..unless you have proof of that link? that Jesus really existed and was not just another con man wandering around at the time.

Believe it or not, it IS true that all Islamics are not terrorists. I find it very offensive by people when I mention to them that I am infact an Islamic follower and they response with comments such as that. I am proud to be one, and wouldnt switch eva. Now I dont go people going around to people of other religions and saying offensive things to them. Just because a couple idiots thought by doing wrong they would do what is right (confusing ik), doesnt mean that all Muslims are that way. In fact, even they are looked down upon by other followers of Islam

Braaaaaa....vo. Congrats, you have just created the longest blog in history of NP....... that actually had meaning I'm totally clueless about. Well... maybe not totally clueless, but I do have some things to say...

First off, I agree with this about... 80%. Some minor points I disagree with but I don't wanna go there because like you said, it'll just cause conflict and controversy.

I hope this doesn't start anything but... I think Christianity is the dominant religion. (I'm Christian too) Some people choose to follow other religions because they find comfort in it and have something to look forward to. (Similar to what you said but just restating it in ENGLISH cuz most people would just be like WHAAAAAT?? xD)

Anyway, all jokes aside, lots of good points, but there's just some that I happen to disagree with, but that's just me. I'm 100% Christian and proud of it.

That is all.

I highly respect pensive thinkers who believe in religion. Why question something if it's just going to cause damage? These melancholiac thoughts will only bring you down in life, and prevent you from progressing. We have no need for them, so just shove it aside and move on.

Bravo. Someone has the guts to share opinions of this
I agree with most of what you believe in this topic.

Might be hard to understand some overly religious people

but some are born and raised in the church all their childhood so they blindly will always say god this and god that

thats the only thing that is annoying to me

yes ok maybe he did create the world etc.

but don't be overdependant on him

do things on your own too

that's what i believe anyway

and most people who lived their life on the church are usually this way overdependant and take crap way 2srs
