San Antonio

As you may notice, I have a new picture on me profile.. (and no, that is not a picture of me)
This past thursday, through Saturday Deanna (for those who are not in the know, my wife) and I took a short sojourn down to San Antonio.. Was it a celebration you ask?
Why no.
Texas Music Educators Convention was in session, in the city of San Antonio
For those who do not know, I am working on my certifications to become a band director, and am in the process of looking for a job in my area (Dallas)
Now, I will be honest, I was dreading this trip.
5 hours.. and then countless hours sitting through pretentious lecturers pontificating on how they discovered the secret to teaching..
However, I was delightfully surprised with not only the size of the convention, but the overall quality of the seminars. Now, don't get me wrong, there were some duds, and even more, where it felt like the presenter got so far off topic that I found myself checking the synopsis in the handbook, just to make sure I was in the seminar I had intended to be in... but overall, I was pleased.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY..
San Antonio is a freakin' awesome city!!!
The riverwalk is pretty amazing
The city has a quaint feeling, even if it is a bit fabricated (seems like some of the designs are a little forced).. I just loved it..
The restaurants were all bustling and had good foods to eat..
The attempts at making the entire city and riverwalk area feel as if it were all outside, is just a fabulous idea.. in a temporate area, like San Antonio, it just makes sense xD
The Alamo of course, was kind of cool to see.. even if I laugh sometimes, when I read the words "Republic of Texas" but nonetheless, it was a well spent travel.
Now if I can just do well in this upcoming weekends racquetball tournament =)
