According to Enterbrain's weekly sales data, Japanese consumers purchased 152,530 PlayStation 3 units last week, which represents a 7,350 percent increase from about 2,000 units the previous week. This is the highest number of PS3 systems sold in a single week in Japan, ever. Its launch week (which was, admittedly, two days long) garnered totals of 88,000 units.

We can't imagine what happened last week to spur such sudden interest. Oh, right -- Play Face. The inspiring Play Face ad campaign is the only reasonable explanation for this sales boost.

 Sales of Sony's redesigned Slim beat Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite by 3:1

Having launched at UK retail last Tuesday, Sony’s PS3 console has enjoyed a colossal week-on-week sales jump, with numbers of ChartTrack’s Week 36 showing a 999 per cent sales increase over the week before.

ChartTrack has told MCV that it is not releasing specific sales numbers, but did say:

“The sales increase is very impressive, making the PS3 the top selling hardware in Week 36. The Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite all sold around the same amount last week – PS3 Slim outsold each of them by a ratio of three-to-one.”

The sales-tracking firm added that it’s unsure how long the uplift will continue for.

“The longevity of this uplift very much depends on the time of year. The PS2 Slim was released in November, much closer to Christmas. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out for Sony this time.”

 If you're sick of hearing your grandmother brag about how popular her chosen console is while she rocks your world in Wii Sports Bowling yet again, maybe this news will finally shut her up. Last week, thanks to a flurry of price cuts and slimming waistlines, the other two players in the console war saw significant sales boosts. Xbox 360 numbers jumped 32 percent over the week before and the PS3 was up an impressive 104 percent. That puts all three consoles neck-and-neck for the American weekly sales lead, each one close enough to 75,000 units that the margin of error more than covers the lot. But, since both price cuts officially went into effect part-way through that week, we're expecting even bigger surges ahead -- and even bigger drops from the Nintendo's offering as we get further and further away from the release of Wii Sports Resort, seemingly the last game worth playing on the thing.

So 2010 is 4 months away and you have experienced some good and bad games this 2009.

From the many add-on content, stages, sack boy and sack girl makeovers and a fresh feeling each and every time you played Little Big Planet, to the downloadable maps, stages of Killzone 2, to the shocking electro free flow gameplay of Infamous and the much hyped Batman: Arkham Aslyum which innovated super hero games the same way The Dark Knight innovated super hero movies.

So the question is, what games were your favorite so far this year and why?
What games are you looking forward to near the end of 2009 and so forth?

I myself eel bad for doubting Batman: Arkham Asylum, granted I had my doubts because of the hype and the feeling in the back of my head that this was just going to be another horrible attempt at making a Batman game.

But wow, I sure as hell was surprised once I finished the game..
Never doubt hype until you dip your toes in the water and fall in.

Worst game for me on the Playstation 3 would have to be Street Fighter 4.
I just felt like there wasn't enough, you know after you played Marvel VS Capcom 2 you feel like Capcom could do so much more, but I digress, it was a good fighter but just didn't keep me playing, let alone playing it online.

The ESRB continues to be a great resource for retro-savvy gamers looking for juicy bits of info. In the past, the ESRB has re-rated old games and has updated the platform listing to include PS3 and PSP, which generally implies that the game will be released as a PSone classic over the PlayStation Network sometime after.

Well on the ESRB's official website, several classic games have popped up in the ratings update and suggest an approaching arrival on the PlayStation Store. Some of the games listed include: Oddworld: Abe's Exodus, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Syphon Filter 2 and Um Jammer Lammy.

So if history has anything to teach us, you can expect to see these games hit the PlayStation Store sometime in the near future.

Hints of Kingdom Hearts 3

Today's revelation of a Marvel buyout by Disney has many wondering if this means Adamantium weapons, or even more elaborate tie-ins, for the next...

Today's revelation of a Marvel buyout by Disney has many wondering if this means Adamantium weapons, or even more elaborate tie-ins, for the next Kingdom Hearts game. Obviously, with the deal having just been announced, no one is talking about video game collaborations just yet. But we do have some possible first details on the game that could be Kingdom Hearts III.

The information comes our way via Famitsu, who's issue last week featured an interview with Kingdom Hearts producer Tetsuya Nomura. The interview was mostly about Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, the upcoming PSP entry in the series. The long awaited true sequel in the Kingdom Hearts line is now due for Japanese release this Winter.

Closing off the interview, Nomura said of Birth By Sleep, "There are lots of mysteries or areas of interest, so perhaps people will want to play the next title. There is a secret movie after all."

For those who are new to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, one tradition for the series has been to offer a special video teaser of the next main entry following the end credits of the current entry. Kingdom Hearts II's "secret movie" offered a first glimpse at what ended up becoming Birth By Sleep.

Asked if by "next title" he meant Kingdom Hearts 3, Nomura would only say, "The next title is the next title."

This was just one of many revelations shared by Nomura during the interview. Among the other points of note, we were pleased to hear that Birth By Sleep will offer some 50 hours of play time. Nomura expects each playable character, Aqua, Ventus, and Terra, to take about 15 hours. The remaining time is for customization of your decks.

Adding up the play times for each character may seem like cheating, but it could be appropriate here. Each character takes a different path through the game, explained Nomura, although there are some areas where two or all three meet up.

Outside of the Kingdom Hearts talk, Nomura provided a glimpse at Square Enix's plans for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Sadly, it looks like the company's booth this year will be a small one. The "Closed Megatheater" trailer show, a tradition going back as far as we can remember, will be missing this year. While those who sample Birth By Sleep and Final Fantasy XIII will get a glimpse at trailers of a few games, Nomura said to not expect footage from Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and The Third Birthday to be among them.

We hope the Closed Megatheater returns at next year's show and brings with it footage from Kingdom Hearts III along with some sweet Marvel tie-ups.

Every KH game has a little teaser to the next in the series, not much is known but it should be surtain that we will get a look at Kingdom Hearts 3 at the end of Birth By Sleep.

So anyone who has played it, yay or nay?

I for one am only halfway through the game and I have to say, the hype was right on the money.
Usually I avoid Batman games because they always end up being very clunky and glitchy. This game though has pleased me in every way possible so far.
The combat system is spectacular, being able to counter attack and then switch targets is great but the animations of Batman flowing freely through the air is beautiful and satisfying in the end.

Also the game gets very slow at times but only for a few minutes or so, it isn't all around Tactical Espionage like say Metal Gear Solid like some people say it is.
I also loved the fact that they got the same cast from the Animated Series to do the voices, don't know if it's the same for Harley but sure as hell sounds like her.
I think I can probably finish it tonight seeing as I'm almost finished, what do you guys think?

Oh and I love how it's a thinking game as well, really makes you feel like Batman.
Especially the detective mode and the scanning mode that's very reminiscent of Metroid Prime.
I decided to place this in the PS3 part of the forum because of the additional Play As The Joker add-on which I have yet to try, it's free too.
Also because I only have a PS3.

Hi everyone, PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.00) adds a number of great new features that we’re excited to share with you. The latest update...

Hi everyone, PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.00) adds a number of great new features that we’re excited to share with you. The latest update incorporates changes that improve navigation on your PS3. First, you’ll notice some cosmetic changes to the design of the XMB (Xross Media Bar). We’ve enhanced the look and feel of the XMB so that it’s easier and even more intuitive to use. We’ve also added network improvements and personalization options to help enhance your PS3 experience.

Additional highlights from update 3.00 include:

* “What’s New” – The “Information Board” will be replaced with a “What’s New” section, which allows you to enjoy interactive PlayStation news every time you start the PS3 system. Located under the PlayStation Network icon, “What’s New” displays the latest and greatest game, video, PlayStation Network and PlayStation news and releases, as well as your recently played games, in a sleek, new animated format.
* Status Indicator – In the top right corner we’ve added an indicator bar, which displays your user icon, friend icon, the number of friends you have online and a small message icon to let you know if you have any new messages. The indicator also includes a scrolling ticker that features the latest news from PlayStation Network. In addition, when you press the PS button, the battery life indicator will no longer cover up the clock.
* Friends List – Now your PlayStation Network friends will appear in a slightly redesigned format on your Friends List. Also, messages will now be viewable from each of your friends’ respective profiles.
* PlayStation Store Shortcuts – We’ve added a handy shortcut icon to the PlayStation Store under both the Game and Video categories so you can access the latest content quickly and easily.
* Personalization – Personalize your PS3 with new dynamic custom themes and avatars. Dynamic themes as well as free and premium avatars will be available through PlayStation Store. A dynamic theme takes your screen to a whole new level as it incorporates animated objects into the background.
* Trophies – Showcasing your hard earned trophies just got better. Update 3.00 gives game developers the ability to modify how they display trophies for add-on content. Base and add-on game trophies will continue to be combined into a single list so you can see where you stand in a game as a whole. Within that list, trophies will be broken out into subcategories—base trophies and add-on trophies—that way, you can easily view the percentage of your base game trophy collection, and separately track your trophy progress in add-on packs. Look for this enhancement to be included in upcoming games.

A few months ago, a Sony survey popped up asking God of War fans what they'd like to see to celebrate the upcoming release of God of War III. There was the normal stuff on there like a collector's edition, behind the scenes Blu-ray, etc., but the one that raised the IGN eyebrows was a compilation of the first two games

Today, the God of War Collection is a reality.

This "holiday season," one Blu-ray will be released that houses both the original God of War and God of War II. Obviously, the Blu-ray disc means that it's not a PS2 game and thus there's no need to worry about backwards compatibility. These PS2 games will be remastered and pack 60 frames-per-second action, 720p graphics, and PlayStation Network Trophy support.

 "We are excited today to announce God of War Collection," said Scott Rohde, vice president of Sony Worldwide Studios America. "Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected."

The best news? All of that will only cost you $39.99

A collection. This is great for those who want God of War 3 but don't want to go backward to play the previous versions of the game. The only problem I see with this is that it doesn't include the PSP edition of God of War and that ain't right. The game would be great on HD. Nonetheless, its a great buy and I really recommend this to anyone who has or will be buying a PS3. I mean, come on. $40? Do itttt.

 I promised you all an update on Cross-Game chat, so here it is.

And you're not going to like it.

As I told you before, Cross-game voice chat has been in the works for a while now. I mentioned last time that it was on target for 3.0 providing that we didn't hit any snags. Well guess what, we hit a snag! An all too familiar snag.

Time for a history lesson.

How many of you remember what it was like before FW 2.4? That's right - no in-game XMB. No custom soundtracks. In-game XMB was the most heavily requested feature at the time and we worked tirelessly in order to get it in (By "we", I mean Sony Japan - as I said before, FW isn't my department). It very nearly didn't happen, you have no idea how difficult it is to backport a feature like that onto a system (the game) that doesn't even know its there, but somehow we managed it. Well, for most titles. There are still the odd few titles out there that don't support in-game XMB ("black" titles).
Custom soundtracks was another one we had working in nearly every title. Obviously it was never going to work in black titles, but about 95% of the titles that worked well with the in-game XMB, had custom sountracks working as well.

So what happened? Why is it that titles HAVE to be developed specifically with custom soundtrack support when it was working more or less just fine?

Is it because Microsoft owns the patent on custom soundtracks in games?

This is something that makes me laugh every time I see one of the less educated ones spouting it off. That's an absolute fabrication. Patents don't matter, Sony as a while infringes upon thousands of patents through the whole company, both hardware and software. If you infringe a patent, you pay royalties to the owner or find a different way of doing the same thing that doesn't infringe. That's it. Microsoft infringes upon all kinds of patents we own but that's up to legal to sort out.

No, the reason we had to drop Custom soundtrack support like that has nothing to do with Microsoft. It does, however, involve a different company. A rather large company.
You see, one of their games happened to fall into the 5% that didn't support in-game custom soundtracks. And they did not like this.
When they found out that a new firmware update was going to suddenly make one of their games look inferior to just about every other game released, they protested. A lot.
They threatened everything, from legal action to dropping support for the PS3 all together.

What could we do? There was almost no way of getting it to work correctly due to the way their game was made (i.e. Poorly) and we certainly couldn't leave a broken implementation in there. That's when the hard decision was made to remove all support for older titles and instead adopt the "opt-in" approach that, to this day, most developers simply ignore. I have to hand this to Microsoft - they did their system right from the beginning and by completely separating it from the developers, they have universal support. Its very unlikely that you'll ever see mandatory support for custom soundtracks in games on our system, I'm afraid.
So yeah, lets nail this on the head: The next time someone starts blaming Microsoft for something the PS3 doesn't have, tell them they're an idiot, they don't know what they're talking about. Are we clear on this? This is a pet peeve of mine because while everyone's happy to go around blaming Microsoft, the real culprits are getting off scott-free. Of course, I can't actually name them directly or, should I get caught, I might even get done for slander (you can never be too careful), but you can figure it out - it's not Activision and they have a poor history with the PS3.

So what has this got to do with Cross-game voice chat?

Guess.

I warned you that we might hit a snag and we did. We've found a couple of titles that just don't like it. Similar to the custom soundtrack fiasco, it can cause lag, crashes, desyncronisation (very very bad when this happens), you name it. It can't be used in these games and it just so happens that some of these games are owned by the same company I've been talking about above.
So we're in a predicament: Cross-game chat is useless if only certain games support it. It's not too bad if its just the odd one that doesn't like it, but at this rate we'd have to drop support for the ENTIRE back catalogue, which would (As I said) make the whole thing useless.
Furthermore, we can't rely on developers to implement direct support for it. It didn't work with Custom Soundtracks, so why would it work here?
So right now, we're trying every little trick in the book to find a solution that works for everyone, but don't hold your breath on this one, so far it looks like the best you're going to get is a gimped implementation of it that only works with a handful of new games.

Now as I said, FW isn't actually my department and even I'm not supposed to know some of this stuff, but this is actually where we are right now. It sucks majorly, but there you have it. Depending on the end result, it could come in FW 3.1 or it could come in FW 4.0, hell it might not even come at all but rest assured they are working very hard on it. And if it doesn't come, you know who to blame.

 The console is a lot like the one that's sitting in the living rooms of gamers now, complete with a 120 GB hard drive and all of the same inputs and outputs you've come to expect. Except it's smaller ... much smaller. More specifically, Sony is saying its thickness and weight are "approximately two-thirds" that of the 60 GB launch console, thanks to some fancy new internal design architecture. Also reduced by two-thirds is the console's power consumption, which will mean softer fan noise when you're rocking Uncharted 2 this holiday.

The "BRAVIA Sync" feature is also new for the smaller PS3. If you're the proud owner of a BRAVIA TV, using an HDMI cable to connect the console to it will allow you to control the XMB on the TV using the PS3. You can even activate "system standby," which will automatically turn off your PS3 when the television is turned off.

Heads up to those interested in installing Linux on your Sony console -- it's not happening with the PS3 Slim. The "Install Other OS" feature has been removed from the console, as (and these are Sony's words) "the new PS3 system will focus on delivering games and other entertainment content." So there goes that.

Well, I'm makin' a thread here for discussion about Gran Turismo 5, though you might have guessed that by looking at the title. We've gotten some new information regarding GT5 in the last few days after Polyphony Digital not throwing us a bone for what seemed like an eternity. So, what do we know so far?

The game will have around 1,000 cars

170 of these cars (probably the GT cars, NASCAR's stock cars, and rally cars) will have damage modeling

There will support for private racing rooms online

Players will be able to upload their replays directly from the game to Youtube

16 players will be able to participate in online races

License tests will return

And there are a lot of things that are probable as well, such as drift and time trial leaderboards for all tracks and probably 60+ tracks.

We still don't know the release date and some of the online features, but hopefully we will find out a lot at the Tokyo Games Show.

First week of September, the PS3 Slim.

via PS3fanboy.com

$50 more dollars than the wii. They just announced it at gamescon along with a lot of cool stuff like digital comics, animated themes, singstar in home, 4th character in Heavy rain and more. Head over to PS3fanboy to keep getting updates.

EDIT: And tou'll never guess what the PS3 slim looks like.

Announced in the latest issue of Famitsu, Atlus will be porting the PS2 version of Persona 3 to the PSP with an all new female main character. Whether this means we have the choice to pick between two main characters hasn’t been revealed, yet. It could mean the game will now be solely led by the female character, but that can't be confirmed at this time.
No other details have been revealed at this time, but expect more news to break in the coming weeks.

 TGS 2008: Tekken 6 Preview
On the arcade version, Bloodline Rebellion, and an eventual PS3 release.
by Charles Onyett

US, October 7, 2008 - Out in Japanese arcades since late last year, Tekken 6, the latest entry in Namco-Bandai's popular fighting series, is still something of an unknown in North America. The game will be showing up on Sony's PlayStation 3 at some point, and to learn more about what kind of content might be brought to the console as well as get some insight into what goes on behind-the-scenes, we talked with several members of the development staff. In the interview were assistant manager of game design Takahiro Noda, game designer Yuichi Yonemori, and manager of game design Katsuhiro Harada.

In terms of features and additional content, Tekken 6 features four more fighters than were present in Tekken 5's lineup. It's got destructible fighting rings, letting players destroy the floor or walls, and more clothing and customization options, including hairstyle tweaking. Item techniques are another bit that's been added in, whereby special moves for each character can be used if certain items are equipped. A rage system was also added which, when you're low on health, works to increase your attack power, giving you a better chance at a comeback.

Namco-Bandai wants to give an incentive to gamers out there who haven't been able to check out the game in the arcades, and will be packing in some additional content for the home version. Though it wasn't said specifically what will be included, it was mentioned that it'll be content beyond what'll be present in the Bloodline Rebellion, which is an update to Tekken 6 arcade featuring two new fighters.

Tekken is known for having some strange fighters, and the team elaborated, again through a translator, on the process of coming up with new designs. "Within the team when they're sitting around relaxing, chatting and they have these crazy ideas ... that concept, somebody kind of takes it and runs with it and actually thinks seriously about ... as a result they come up with some unique and interesting characters. It kind of starts off as a joke but then they actually flesh out the character and take that one concept and realize it."

Talking about the new characters added for Bloodline Rebellion, the team discussed specific fighting styles and backstory. The new male character, Lars Alexandersson, was described as "quick and agile." If he's backed up against a wall it's possible for him to pull off a move that quickly flips him around so that he corners the opponent. His backstory puts him right in the center of the Tekken universe, as he's the son of Heihachi. He knows it, Heihachi doesn't.

The other character is Alisa Bosconovitch, an android fighter. She has a story the team is hoping to go into more fully when the home version ships. As far as attacks go, she can remove her head to pummel the opponent, sprout mechanical wings to quickly charge across the fighting arena, and her hands turn into saw blades.

The game is announced to come out sometime in October. Obviously, it is coming closer to the release of the game, so I believe once it's out we could turn this into a discussion thread if possible. Just to let you know, I have played this game in the arcade but I do not own a ps3, but this game is making me want to buy one for sure.

I believe eveyone else is familiar with the other 4 new characters: Bob, Zafina, Leo and Miguel. If you haven't played Tekken Dark Ressurection for the PSP, then I guess you can count in Lilli and Dragonuv. Armor King is also in it.
Our hero will find himself once again taking on an ever more devious and powerful succession of enemies, relying on his faithful friends and incredible ninja skills to win the day.

In addition, the all-new fighting system lets players select a partner to join them in battle increasing the chances of victory. Selecting the right partner will give players the chance for special team-based Jutsus and Ougis adding more tactical decisions to the gameplay. And players looking for a change from playing Naruto can even jump in the shoes of other characters to try out the fighting styles of our hero’s equally deadly companions.
However, the plot of the manga and television series in the Western hemisphere are way behind the much recent Japanese releases.
You may have seen a number of PS3 Slim-related retail ads, all of which have been proven fake. However, this ad which we received certainly looks much more believable. Hastings, a Texas-based retailer with 153 stores in 21 states, is also showcasing the PS3 in an upcoming ad, one that makes no mention of the PS3 Slim.

According to the ad, the current stock of 160GB PS3s will be cut to $400, a $100 savings over the original. This follows the footsteps of other retailers, like amazon.com, who have already dropped the price of that model to $450. Of potential importance is the phrasing: the ad mentions the PS3 is experiencing a "price cut" versus a temporary "sale." The cut begins September 8th, weeks after Sony's press conference at Gamescom.

The reduced price could be exclusive to Hastings, and isn't necessarily indicative of a nationwide price drop. However, a price drop on current PS3 models can clear inventory and make way for a possibly upgraded one. A representative for Hastings told us over the phone that they could not offer any comment on this offer.

[Update: Engadget reports that European retailer Fnac has dropped its PS3 price by €100. Engadget Spanish is also reporting a similar drop. It's a new trend of selling things at reasonable prices! We've included a screencap after the break, in case something changes.]

Allegedly, the French, as a purported screen shot from retailer Micromania's product database shows the oft-rumored PlayStation 3 "Slim" redesign. If this listing is the real deal—it's not reflected on Micromania's web site—it would confirm a long-standing rumor.

That shot, hosted by Total Manga and via NeoGAF's marathon thread of PS3 Slim speculation, could be easily faked. But the details are inline with recent chatter about the mythical console redesign's leaks. Micromania supposedly listed a September 1 arrival date and a €299 price point. That's cheaper than the current €399 model, which has been the target of retailer price drops over the past few weeks.

Of course, previous leaks are just as much confirmation as this rumored listing. There was the Amazon.de product listing for the "PS3 Konsole Slim," a listing which didn't last long before it was pulled.

There's been plenty of circumstantial evidence surrounding a console relaunch and revamp, with talk of Sony ramping up PlayStation 3 production in Taiwan and a July delivery date of the rumored console variation.

Of course, one of the more obvious signs that Sony was prepping something beyond the norm of its original PlayStation 3 design were early leaked pictures of a shell, one alleged to be the PS3 Slim.

With previous rumors of a PlayStation 3 price cut coming in the fall starting to come true at select retailers, it's starting to feel like we're on the cusp of some sort of official announcement. With Gamescom kicking off next week and Sony holding a press conference next Tuesday, we're expecting to hear something there.

Of course, we expect that to be prefaced with leaks from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PR, a hastily written story from Japan's Nikkei newspaper and maybe even a leak on the PlayStation Network.

source

I want to set a rumor record. I hope this slim is true and $100 cheaper. The PS3 is $250 to make. So they will still make a profit.

 Two anonymous retail spokespeople in the UK have reported that PlayStation 3 supplies from Sony have dried up, possibly in anticipation of this month's GamesCom and a future announcement therein. "Sourcing PS3 stock has been a challenge for the last two to three weeks," one source told MCV. Evidently, the retailers have been told that further shipments would not be coming until late August or early September.

We can only speculate about the reason -- you may expect the next shipment of PS3 systems to make it to retail to be Slim, or a cheaper model; however, given recent history, we're going to conjecture that Sony is planning to release a new model with a higher price, and doesn't want to waste any more time building the "cheap" systems.

Over the past few months, we've seen a noticeable increase in the number of PSone classics released on the PlayStation Network, which is great news for gamers interested in retro gaming. One of the best indications thus far of which PSone games are on the way to the PSN has been the official ESRB website. The ESRB will update its ratings listing for games and stick a "PlayStation 3" tag on the title for relevant platforms; nine times out of ten, the title will hit Sony's PlayStation Store soon after.

In case you missed it before, it looks like a few more games are inbound. Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis have all been updated on the ESRB ratings list, which leads us to believe that they're on the way to the PlayStation Network.

Bring on the survival horror!

Update: A post on the Capcom Unity blog confirms the aforementioned titles, along with several PSP downloadables that will be available in the future. The PSP items include Mega Man Powered Up, Powerstone Collection, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max and Capcom Puzzle World.

French media site JVN contacted an anonymous retailer, revealing supposed details of the most-likely-real PS3 Slim. According to the source, the PS3 Slim is very real, and is planned to launch in Europe next month for €300, a discount of €100 over the current Phat model. The source then says the console may be officially announced at Gamescom, taking place a little over a week from now.

While the authenticity of the source's information can't be verified, it seems increasingly likely that the PS3 Slim is real. Considering Gamescom is the European equivalent of E3, we're certain Sony will be making some kind of big announcement -- but will it be a price-reduced PS3 Slim? Stay tuned for more.

source

So much news on this slim. €100 is $142.02. So if the slim is real. Man. I guess we'll find out if this is true in a little over a week.

Question. If the PS3 drops down in price, would people here buy one? Of course people who don't have one.

 Swedish developer Fatshark (recently a subcontractor working on the Terminator: Salvation game) has announced a downloadable Wild West shooter called Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West. It will be a third-person shooter with team-based multiplayer modes. Fatshark says it is upping the bar for downloadable games with graphics and a feature set that rivals major retail releases. The game runs on GRIN's Diesel Engine, which powers Bionic Commando, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West lets players relive classic Western clich?s like the dual at high noon and the bank robbery.

Specific platforms haven't been announced but the game is being prepped for console and PC release. Since the games mentioned above that run on the Diesel Engine haven't appeared on Wii, it's a safe bet this one won't, either. Look for more information on Lead and Gold to be dug up at Gamescom next week. In the meantime, check out the first (impressive) screens in our gallery.

President and CEO of Activision Publishing Mike Griffith gave investors a full look at the company's upcoming plans for Modern Warfare 2, including what type of online content is in development.

"We plan to launch two separate map packs for this title," Griffith said. "Map packs help extend the shelf life of the franchise, as evidence by the strong catalog sales and premium pricing that we maintained a year and a half after launch."

"To date, we've had strong success with map packs on this franchise, selling more than 8 million units for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3," he added.
8 million units? No wonder companies love DLC. At least Activision isn't trying to hide its intentions.

 The videogame fan base usually isn't abuzz over the happenings of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, but today appears to be the exception. On July 31, 2009, Sony Computer Entertainment America filed a trademark application -- Serial No. 77794416 -- for something called "P.S. Thanks."

Officially and in giant, government capital letters, the trademark applies to "ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES, NAMELY, INCENTIVE REWARDS PROGRAM GEARED TOWARD QUANTIFYING, IDENTIFYING AND MOTIVATING TOP CONSUMER BASE WITH THE GOAL OF PROMOTION AND SALE OF VIDEO GAME HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE."

What does that mean exactly? We don't know. Maybe it's some kind of Trophy reward program, maybe it's some kind of special program like Club Nintendo, maybe it's a blimp that flies to your house and drops gifts. We don't know, and messages left with Sony representatives were not immediately returned.

We'll update this story if any more information becomes available.

Update: We've received an official comment from a Sony representative regarding the above news. The comment is as follows: "As you know, we have a long history of creating unique loyalty programs such as PlayStation Underground which started with the original PlayStation and has evolved into the Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP). We continue to look for ways to expand this program and simply are evaluating new naming conventions for this evolution."

If I find anymore updates then I'll be sure to post it. I wonder what this nit present is exactly.

Patch in Testing

We have implemented fixes that should substantially improve critical connection and lag issues. A patch has now entered testing. No ETA yet. When we have information to share, you’ll get it.

Known Issues, Bugs, Imbalances

The following bugs and imbalances have been well reported and documented. In general, there is no need to send additional information. If you come across something new – please send it on.

* Failed Game Connections
* Lag
* Hosting Problems
* AoE Scoring Exploits
* Stalemates
* Missing Princess (on certain levels)
* Dead Hat Machines
* Scoreboard Issues (only top 1000 scores shown)
* Ranking System Problems

Balancing, Feature Requests, Other Comments

We have also received hundreds of great suggestions, some of which will directly result in changes to the game at some point down the road. Among those that have been well documented:

* Changes to Ranking System
* Changes to Scoring System
* Stalemate Breakers (e.g. – Finite Cake, Slim Fast Princess)
* Server Lists
* Clan Management
* Hosted Servers
* Class Balance
* More Classes
* More Class Upgrades
* More Maps
* More Modes
* More Sports
* Even Fatter Princesses
* Unbelievably Fat Gargantuan Princesses

Please note: we have so many emails coming in that though we’ll read it all, we will not be able to respond to everything. We only have so many hours in the day, and I am sure you’ll all agree that work on the game takes priority. Thanks for your understanding.

FAQ Coming

We’ll be working on a FAQ in the coming days. The FAQ will address the game, technical problems, systems, etc. Stay tuned.

Strategy / Tips

Titan Studios is also working on a Fat Princess strategies and tips page. Some of them were by design, and some have emerged from live play. Until then, play as a team, use voice chat, and know that a piece of virtual cake has 150 calories.

DAmwake I'm looking at you for the clan thing. We can take over fat princess. Hope they get that one out soon. I also see more sports, maps, and modes. Their gonna be working hard looks like.

Right now I just want to play it. I had a few successful games. I was ranked in the 500s at one point. :run: But I just want to get in a match the first time I try it.

Rumor: PS3 now 70 percent cheaper to manufacture

If statements (http://www.totalvideogames.com/PlayStation-3/news/PS3-Manufacturing-Costs-Reduced-By-70-14439.html) made during a Sony international...

If statements made during a Sony international investor conference call are to be believed, the company has managed to cut PS3 manufacturing costs by "about 70%, roughly speaking." Sony Corp CEO Nobuyuki Oneda stated that this was "on schedule." Concrete numbers haven't been revealed, but based on various reports since the PS3's inception, estimates are that the console now costs around $240 (£146) per unit -- way down from the original cost of $800 (£485).

The upshot of all this is that at the current price Sony is guaranteed to be profiting from each machine sold -- and about time too! -- but there's also enough leeway for the company to announce that much-requested $100 price cut and still be profitable. Whether this will happen or not depends on how much Sony values consumer satisfaction and increased userbase over recouping some of those hefty losses the PS3 suffered in the early years.

Source

Price drop sony. You'll still be in the profit. Please! So people can stop saying it cost too much.

Confirmed: Braid Coming To PSN [Update]
Hothead Games confirms North American and European release.

July 31, 2009 - Original story: According to the German games rating website, Braid, the indie darling game of 2008, may finally be on its way to the Playstation Network.

A listing appeared yesterday on the German website USK (spotted by NeoGAF) which, like the ESRB here in North America, gives age restriction classifications to videogames. Braid for PS3 is being published by Hothead Games, who also published Braid for the Mac and the Penny Arcade Adventures games. Braid was also released for PC and Xbox Live Arcade, but through different publishers.

As per Google translator, that reads: "Released without an age restriction under section 14."

This shouldn't be taken as an official confirmation just yet, however. We've reach out for comment on an official release and we'll update you if we hear back.

Update: IGN just received word from a Hothead Games representative confirming the North American and European release of Braid for PSN. The spokesperson could not, however, comment on when the game will be released, but expect to hear more news in the coming months.

IGN: Confirmed: Braid Coming To PSN [Update]
________________________

Will the madness ever end? I haven't had a chance to play this game like I did with Castle Crashers so I am cannot say for certain this is an amazing game.. but it did win quite a few awards and Hacksaw has spoken of it highly in the past.
