Yeah, I'm sure that this is probably fake... unfortunately, because I'd definitely buy it just to die of laughter!

Now, I posted this in General Gaming just to throw a little question: do you know other fake games that look so ridiculous that you'd love to play just for fun?? If yes, please share them :D
(I'm sorry if this hurt any religious sensibility, it wasn't intended :Smilie_v2_Yoshi:)

Call of Duty: World at War has already proven that it has legs well beyond its initial launch. With more than 11 million units sold since the well-regarded World War II shooter launched in November 2008, Activision said in July that the game's first two map packs had combined to sell some 4 million units. That figure, of course, doesn't even include Map Pack 3, which hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's online services in August.

Zombie sympathizers are few and far between.
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and its record-setting launch still a headline fixture, Activision today announced one more World at War extension, this time for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. The publisher said today that Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies can be downloaded through Apple's iTunes for $9.99.

As its title suggests, the touch-screen-enabled shooter continues the zombie theme established in the first three World at War map packs. Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies accommodates solo play as well as co-op for up to four via Wi-Fi connection as gamers are charged with fending off waves of the undead hordes.

Not that I expect anyone will remember the above title, but I went with it anyway.

Just recently, Nintendo released another Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks teaser trailer, which perked some ears. At the beginning of his quest, Link and Zelda meet, most likely related to the fact that link is an locomotive engineer. During Link's brief time with the princess, she is ripped from her earthly form, and re-emerges as a phantom, and her body is taken away. As you may have guessed this is where the spirit in "spirit tracks" comes from, but that's not the most exciting news. Free to roam the world without much else to do, Zelda accompanies link, in the hopes of getting her body back. Zelda plays as the new "navi" and will present you with hints and banter along your quest. While some of you may cringe at the thought of another navi character, what we learned next will make it worth it. The phantom (armor) that we've been seeing in previous trailers was none other than Zelda, who can be commanded with the stylus. Zelda can help solve puzzles, be used as a raft for getting across hazard gaps, or even fight by your side against tough enemies. However Zelda isn't without flaw: she will cringe at the sight of creepy crawlies such as rats and spiders, and can apparently be removed from here phantom armor by certain enemies.

Spirit tracks just continues to amaze, and if it holds true to the Zelda name, it will be one amazing game. We will see Spirit Tracks this December 7th.
So I figured it would be fun to see how the rest of you on wiipals answer. So just list the top five characters, what game they're from and why.

1. Big Daddy (Bioshock): Uh, duh... his job is to protect children and he does it WELL.
2. D.O.G. (Half-Life): A big friendly robot... "dog"... He was designed to protect Alyx Vance. Not only is he good at that but he plays games too. :]
3. Skorge (Gears of War 2): Well he serves as the guard and General for the locust queen. And most people would piss their pants when that thing comes after them with a chainsaw staff...stick...thing...
4. Voldo (SoulCalibur): Alright, he's a little creepy but he was entrusted to guard a massive cave of treasure. If he can guard treasure I figure he can guard a person.
5. Frank West (Deadrising): He constantly serves as the rescuer of survivors in a zombified mall. He may not always do it well, but when he tries they live. And those survivors are STUPID. If they can live, I should have no problem.

Can We Stop Saying Hardcore and Casual? (An Article from Gamervision)

Image: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b248/darkbornsliver/1242311030OMvbZIQPrp.jpg

I’m a pretty avid gamer, I would say. I have been playing video games for the vast majority of my life. I own over a dozen systems and hundreds of games. I enjoy titles from just about every genre, excluding sports (unless you count Hot Shots Golf, I’ll play that all day long). I’ve been to E3, PAX, and a handful of other conventions. Oh yeah, and I work for a video game website. Despite all of these things some might use on a checklist to determine gamer cred, I never refer to myself as “hardcore”. Why? Because I really hate that term.

This generation, Nintendo started what has been described as a “casual gaming revolution” with the Wii and DS, pulling an entirely new audience into our industry. At first, this seemed like a good thing. Finally, people who didn’t care about gaming were showing an interest, thanks to games like Wii Sports and Brain Age. While this should have created a new unity among all gamers, instead it has created a giant rift between the casual and the other side of the fence, the “hardcore”. Just like casual gamers were once easily defined, hardcore gamers used to be simple to spot as well. Hardcore gamers were the ones with more than just a passing interest in gaming. As this generation has gone on, though, gaming has evolved, and the meanings of “casual” and “hardcore” have become pretty unclear. Even worse, they have been turned into little more than message board insults and marketing strategies, which means that continuing to try and fit every gamer into these categories is only going to be detrimental.

First of all, the meaning of “hardcore” changes from person to person. Some say that the hardcore like shooters and only play games on the 360 and PS3, as if playing a quality game on the Wii makes you less of a gamer. Others claim that Call of Duty 4 and BioShock, two of the most popular games this generation, are for babies, and only those who can beat the hardest, most frustrating games are “hardcore”. The popularity of music games has further muddled these terms, because while just about anyone can jump in and play Guitar Hero or Rock Band, few can master them on the highest difficulty settings. Are they casual? Are they hardcore? Pretty much every owner of a Wii or DS has been accused of being a “casual” gamer, but what, exactly, makes a game casual? Is it widespread mainstream appeal? If that’s the case, that means games like Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess—again, some of the best games this generation—are casual, despite both of them taking dozens of hours to complete. Or is it mass-produced, low-quality games that are considered casual? This is also a problem, because it shouldn’t be nearly as acceptably as it is for publishers to pump out shovelware in hopes of attacting new gamers—that’s partially what caused the video game crash of the early 80s, certainly not something we want repeated.

By continuing to use these meaningless terms, we’re letting the general public categorize and stereotype us. To the outside world, hardcore gamers are men who only play games filled with blood and gore, while casual gamers are children, tween girls, parents, and the elderly. This allows for stupid marketing campaigns to insult our intelligence and countless shovelware titles to clutter our store shelves. Most gamers know by now that people of all ages, male and female, enjoy a wide variety of titles. We don’t say things like “casual TV watcher” or “casual filmgoer”, so we need to just deal with the fact that as the industry grows, it’s going to attract a wider audience, including some who have never been interested in this form of entertainment before. It’s not a bad thing; it means gaming is becoming less of a niche and more of a widespread, accepted way to spend time.

As gamers, it’s already hard enough having to deal with the uninformed media painting us as heartless killers, or socially inept nerds living in our parents’ basements. We don’t need to label each other meaningless things just to feel better about ourselves. It’s pointless, and the terms “hardcore” and “casual” are becoming more obsolete every day. They mean different things to everyone, and the fact that you enjoy different games than someone else doesn’t make you a better gamer. So please, once and for all, can we just cut out the hardcore vs. casual gamer nonsense?

You see, the problem stems from "hardcore" really just being there as a status symbol. Like, as a way for one person to say they are better than another person at games. I think it has definitely become more prevalent this gen, with "casual" games and gamers being hunted down like witches, and I think that's the wrong approach to it.

Before, games were just games. Good games were good games and bad games were bad games, gamers played games and people who occasionally picked up a game, weren't, and it was a more or less peaceful co-existence. There have always been games that marketed towards non-gamers, the fact that the PS2 and Xbox could serve other multimedia functions was a thing to get non-gamers to buy their console (not a bad thing). It just seems that this generation, people are acting like it's a make or break moment everyday and the other company or companies have to make a mistake or everyone has to justify their purchase by saying such and such is the best, and while in truth, that's always been there, before, gamers looked down at that kind of attitude (at least that's what it seemed like to me) while now, people seem to glorify this rift people gamers and for virtually no reason at all.

So we all get a bit of hint that creator of Kingdom Hearts, Tetsuya Nomura had some inspiration from Star Wars with final boss of KH2, Xemnas, sporting two red lightsabers (or "Ethereal blades"). However, more and more since re-playing through KH2 and having recently beaten 358/2 Days that he seems to have been more inspired by the Star Wars films than just lightsabers.

For example, Ansem (or Xehanort's Heartless) plus some members of Organization XIII have yellow eyes, the same eyes that Siths from the prequel trilogy have. Nomura seems to hint that those eyes are given to those who have given into darkness, much like the Sith who have given into the darkside of the force.

Speaking of which, both the Star Wars films and Kingdom Hearts have a very strong theme on the differences between light and dark. It wasn't really until the end of KH2 that Nomura really changed that and stated that darkness isn't evil, but aside from that, the darkness had always been treated as evil. In fact, you could argue that Riku acted very much like Darth Vader, a hero turned to evil and was merely a puppet for some even darker master who eventually redeems himself. Something tells me that Terra is going to be the same way come Birth By Sleep.

A smaller, but still interesting comparison, is the fact that most characters weapons magically appear. Much like the Jedi and Siths in Star Wars whose lightsabers were always concealed and could be summoned in an instant, character weapons like the keyblade could indeed be summoned at will and it seems only certain people can use it (strong heart = high midichlorians)

Lastly, gummi ships. This one could go either way, but I found the last gummi ship level in KH2 to be very Star Wars like, flying into a large battleship and attacking it's core before escaping.

Some of these are common themes but some just can't seem to be denied that derive influence for George Lucas' epics.

Every once in a while i come across a terribly foolish aspect put into a game, that just makes it worse. Sometimes unplayable.

Ex: The invisible enemies needing the clear magicite in ring of fates for DS(you're limited to <11 and there are about 50 invisible enemies, and so you need to resort to using your healing magicite. And a lot of the time, both miss the enemies!)

So i turn on infinite clear magicite.

All the limits put into brawl >_>
3min+ replays, infinite replays to send, and of course brawl plussery kinds of things.

Stuff like that.

And perhaps it was still a good game to begin with, but using a certain code gave you more fun out of it?

Perhaps we have discussed this, perhaps not. Either way, I do not believe it was recently.

Nintendo has demonstrated that it intends to make waves in the gaming industry with its major releases rather than just ripples. Gameboy Advance to DS, Gamecube to Wii. Sixteen-bit handheld with fewer buttons than a SNES controller to a dual-screened, touch-sensitive, full-3D handheld powerhouse, traditional home console to something completely unexpected.

So, how will Nintendo show itself up in the next generation? What will be added, what will be dropped, will backwards compatibility be able to survive with such drastic changes?

Rather than say "what you want" or "what you wish" to be in the new console (or handheld), tell what you honestly expect from the next generation.

Alright, commence!

This should be interesting.

People toss around the term "hardcore" without ever defining it. How is it that playing repetitive rehashes of old fighting/shooting/racing games is any more "hardcore" than playing a classic franchise like Mario?

I think it is just a term of superiority, although I personally see in my mind's eye a 40-year-old man living in his mother's basement shouting trash-talk over Xbox Live when I hear the term "hardcore gamer".

So please, define "hardcore gaming".

Create And Share Your Own 2D Sonic Levels

Image: http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/9/2009/09/500x_sonicleveled.jpg

PlaySega.com has recently launched a flash version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, complete with a level editor that allows fans to create, share, and play their own Sonic levels online.

The Sonic the Hedgehog level editor, a creation of Mediatonic, lets VIP members of PlaySega create Sonic levels relatively easily. Using a simple interface creators lay down scenery tiles, place obstacles and enemies, and set starting and ending points, resulting in a somewhat primitive but definitely playable Sonic the Hedgehog level.

The bad news? You can only create your own levels if you sign up for a VIP subscription to PlaySega, which starts at $5.95 a month. The good news is that even free members can play the levels, and should you choose to upgrade, a three-month subscription for $14.95 nets you the free Sega Saturn-styled PC controller, seen below.

Nintendo have recently filed a trademark for something known as "The Last Story". The interesting thing about this particular trademark is that it is registered in English, where normally Nintendo files trademarks in Japanese (unless the game is tied to an international release).

So why the "uh oh" you ask? Well speculation has begun stating that "The Last Story" trademark could somehow be related to the next Zelda game. Miyamoto reportedly hinted that the next Wii Zelda title will be the big one that ties all the previous games together. Could this also mean the retirement of this great series?

THERE IS NO GUARENTEE THIS IS THE CASE, however it is worth thinking about. Regardless what happens, it will be interesting to see what this trademark attaches itself to.

Do you still have some SEGA Genesis or Mega Drive cartridges in your closet? You will soon be able to break them out and use them on a retro revival of the SEGA Genesis and SEGA Mega Drive systems. These new hardware systems are licensed from SEGA by AtGames. The Mega Drive version has already been released in Europe and the North America SEGA Genesis "Firecore" version should be out soon.

What's included in the $49.99 MSRP (£39.99 in UK) bundle are: cartridge system, two controllers, AV cable, AC adapter and instructions. The systems are also pre-loaded with games.

The SEGA Mega Drive system (UK), distributed by Blaze, includes 15 games:
Sonic & Knuckles, Golden Axe, Alex Kidd, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Arrow Flash, Columns, CrackDown, Decap Attack, Eswat, Flicky, Gain Ground, Bonanza Bros and Fatal Labyrinth.

The SEGA Genesis Firecore system (US), distributed by Innex, includes 20 games, of which Sonic and Knuckles, Ecco and Sonic Spinball are confirmed.

The SEGA Genesis Firecore has a built-in IR receiver, for use with some wireless controllers that are sold separately. The Firecore will be distributed in the US by Innex. Innex notes that the SEGA Genesis Firecore Classic Console will support true color technology, allowing support of newly developed games.

SEGA gave AtGames the exclusive rights to sell SEGA game products, which includes: SEGA Master System, SEGA GAME GEAR, SEGA GENESIS (MEGA DRIVE) System, SEGA SATURN System, SEGA 32X, SEGA CD and SEGA Dreamcast System. Yes, the Dreamcast system. Maybe we will be seeing a revival of the SEGA Dreamcast sometime soon from AtGames. Happy Birthday, Dreamcast (9.9.99).

The Dreamcast’s 10-year anniversary just got a little more exciting. Redspotgames, a publisher that thankfully didn’t get the memo about the system’s demise, has just announced a new game for the Sega Dreamcast.

That’s right; Rush Rush Rally Racing will be hitting Amazon and eBay’s virtual store shelves this October for the low price of $22. I can’t believe I’m actually typing these words in 2009, but you can pre-order this Dreamcast game now via the publisher’s website.

Rush Rush Rally Racing is an old-school, 2D, top-down, arcade-racing game for up to four players. The trailer, which you can watch after the jump, boasts “No realistic backgrounds. No sponsored cars. Only fun, retro gameplay.” Who knows if RRRR will be any good or not, but the gameplay in the trailer does look pretty darn entertaining.

Here’s a list of features direct from the developer (their words, not ours!) if you’re dying to know more about the game:

- Single-player grand prix mode with four difficulty levels

- Three multiplayer modes to enjoy with up to four players

- Five race cars to choose from

- 10 Grand Prix race tracks

- 9 additional multiplayer race tracks

- Awesome soundtrack by Black Device

- Autosave to VMU (any port, file uses just 2 blocks)

- Region-free

- Rumble pack support

- Compatible with original Dreamcast pads, arcade stick, and third-party controllers

- Supports PAL (50/60 Hz), NTSC, and VGA displays

- Configurable controls and many other options

- Animated cut scenes

- Plus even more unlockable content!

- New: Online high score!

Image: http://www.originalsoundversion.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mmcover.jpg

Metroid has always been a unique game series. Since the first game’s release in 1987, gamers have been hooked on the barren, lonely atmosphere, exciting boss fights, exploration of strange places and of course, the excellent music by Hip Tanaka.

Metroid was unlike anything else in terms of gameplay and music. It didn’t use upbeat samba or rock ‘n roll influenced tracks. Rather, it was more mysterious, sending you into a huge world of unknown beings and sounds, with a heroic main theme in Brinstar, to the chilling boss theme against Ridley, it’s a solid classic. Metroid 2 and Super Metroid by Ryoji Yo************************omi and Kenji Yamamoto, released on Game Boy and SNES respectively only helped Metroid reach its iconic status.

So with the music being so recognizable and held in such high regard, naturally a lot of arrangements and fan projects and have focused on Metroid, and tomorrow, Metroid Metal will unleash their new CD upon the world.

So, did they do the series justice? Do a screw attack and find out after the jump!

Over the years, many fan arrangements have tried to tackle the music of Metroid to various degrees of success. Some arrangements rely a lot on ambiance while suffering a loss in melody, while others rock it out, but stray away from the mysterious nature of the source material. Grant Henry, better known as “Stemage” and leader of the band Metroid Metal, has always been widely recognized for creating some of the best arrangements of Metroid music, and now with his live band, they’ve released the highly anticipated studio album, Varia Suite.

Varia Suite contains many of the most memorable songs from Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid and even Metroid Prime. Some of the arrangements will sound familiar to fans of Henry’s work as they were previously offered on his website, all done by himself with help from a brilliant bassist, Dan Taylor. This CD features Henry’s arrangements performed by the live band he put together last year, consisting of Arm Cannon’s Dan Behrens, Mike Molnar, Dan Taylor and Kevin Lawrence.

The CD starts out with “Prelude” from Super Metroid, and if you never heard Metroid Metal before or even Metroid music, let me just tell you, this is the perfect way to introduce you to both. The track oozes authentic Metroid atmosphere, with a few strokes of the bass to grab your attention before throwing you right into metal heaven. I absolutely love the lead guitar tone as there’s something unsettling about it, which keeps the Metroid creepiness there at all times.

“Lower Norfair” from Super Metroid follows up the prelude, which has a pretty cool intro, being somewhat reminiscent of spaghetti western music, before kicking into high gear and taking us into the familiar sounds of SM. The song has a really cool breakdown at the halfway point, at which point it slowly builds itself up again. This is a great arrangement.

The 3rd track is arguably the one fans will have most nostalgia for: “Brinstar” from Metroid. Like the original, this track is more energy driven and gets your foot tapping pretty quickly. The guitar section at around the one minute mark is pretty awesome.

The “Item Room” and “Item Collect” pieces are probably the most impressive tracks on the CD arrangement-wise, as Grant takes a short jingle and manages to flesh it out to almost a minute without feeling forced or resorting to completely original parts; again, a masterful arrangement.

“Kraid” is another fan favorite from the original Metroid, and for my money, it is the absolute best song on the CD. From the second you turn this song on, the familiar melody will strike your heart and the performance of the band will floor you. Intimidating, chilling and gripping, this song delivers in every way, and is so good I would probably consider it one of the best arrangements of a video game song I’ve ever heard.

“Ridley” keeps intact the eerie hypnotic feeling it has always had, with a high energy arrangement with some absolutely brilliant guitar work, while “Phendrana Drifts” from Metroid Prime stands out a bit, being that the source material is from a newer game and has a different nature, but nonetheless is wonderfully performed. “Boss Medley” from Super Metroid is the longest song on the CD, clocking in at nearly 7 minutes. It is exactly what you’d expect, hard hitting and blood pumping, though after numerous play troughs, it’s the only song I find a bit exhausting because of length and nature, being boss fights and all.

The brilliance of this CD does not simply apply to just the performance and arrangements, but also mixing and track order. The instruments are clean, volume balanced and track order shows some consideration in how the album flows. The last three tracks prove this point best, starting out with “Meridian” from Super Metroid, going into the “Escape” and then the “Ending” from Metroid. Like the games, these songs take you through the final section of the adventure so to speak, and seemingly wrap things up until the very end where that bass from the beginning returns, kicking you right back into the “Metroid Theme” in an absolutely flooring performance. The arrangement is rather straightforward with this one, but it fits; it’s a song the fans all cherish, and the track placing ends us on a high note, wanting more, yet feeling complete with what we just heard.

2009 has been a great year for game arrangements and doujins, with Smash Bros releasing Bacon EP, Arm Cannon releasing their follow up album, and Ese and Magical Trick Society focusing on Final Fantasy , but perhaps most importantly when we look back at 2009 we’ll remember that Varia Suite was released. This CD is a masterpiece and a product of such quality that we don’t see very often. Even if you don’t have a connection to Metroid music, the CD will most likely satisfy your music taste and serve as an excellent entry into the world of Metroid. For my money, it is the best CD of 2009, official or doujin, hands down. Highly Recommended.

Don’t believe me? Head over to Bandcamp to listen to the whole album, FREE, streaming. Then you can pay for a digital download or CD release.

Feeling a bit sore about the abandoned Star Wars Battlefront III, previously in development at TimeSplitters and Haze house Free Radical? Here's a little salt for that wound, alleged Star Wars Battlefront IV concept art.

Unseen64 has more than a dozen purported concept paintings from the fourth Star Wars Battlefront game, which seems to have a focus on the planets Utapau from Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Dagobah from The Empire Strikes back. The site credits not-for-profit internet hound superogatory with the find, which curiously doesn't appear on his own blog.

That's Dagobah right there, which the unnamed developer on the rumored game appears to have fleshed out with authentic looking architecture and vehicles, namely the Dagobah tank.

Whether we'll actually see the promise of Star Wars Battlefront III or Star Wars Battlefront IV is up to LucasArts. But for now, an ogling of this purported concept artwork will give your eyeballs a good enough "What if?"

;_____;

As if the canning of BFIII wasn't hurtful enough.

Sonic Adventure DX Getting Another Remake?

http://i.testfreaks.se/images/products/600x400/72/sonic-adventure-dx-director-s-cut.424264.jpgAustralia's Classification Board has listed a new...

Australia's Classification Board has listed a new rating for Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, suggesting that the GameCube game might be ported to current systems.

The rating says "multiplatform," which further vagues up whatever Sega's plans are here. That Gaming Site, which saw the listing earlier today, figures it could be a new control scheme on the Wii, an XBLA release, or part of some new compilation.

Sonic Adventure DX debuted on the Dreamcast in 1998; the Director's Cut was the version brought to GameCube and PC in 2003.
Sauce

I wonder if this would be just another port or an actual remake with updated graphics and such?

Yes, this game does kinda symbolise the point where Sonic went off the deep end, (or Sonic's first and best game if you're 9,) but the Sonic Adventure games weren't all that terrible compared to more recent 3D efforts.

If this turns out to be a proper remake, I'm certainly interested. Plus it means I get to raise some Chao all over again. :awesome:

So, Mario and Sonic have teamed up already in Brawl, Olympic game, and soon Winter games....but what if they had their own full-fledged game together. What kind of genre would you like it to be? What would the story be like? Should there be a new baddie or some kind of Bowser/Robotnik team up? What characters would like to see in the game?

I would love to see a platformer where you had a huge cast of Mario and Sonic characters and could only take four along. They would all have specialties to help them overcome different obstacles, like Mario's jumps, Sonic's speed, etc. I think the game should start off with a Robotnik and Eggman team up but should eventually reveal a new enemy.

There you have it. The Top 10. Oh and a Nintendo Game even made it on the list.
Even tho imo I think Mario Galaxy 2 should beat out Heavy Rain. But Whatever, sense this is GameInformers opinion, that was based on popularity.
