"The latest Wii blockbuster posts...

Nice healthy figures for New Super Mario Bros Wii (great game by the way, buy it now if you already haven't).

"The latest Wii blockbuster posts the third largest day one of the year behind Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3: ODST

Preliminary VGChartz estimates are in and it looks like New Super Mario Bros Wii has become the third fastest-selling game of the year so far in the Americas with over half a million copies sold in the first day alone. The title had accumulated around 520,000 preorders as of last week and VGChartz estimates that week one sales in the Americas should come in at around one million units.

The top Wii openings in the Americas have been Super Smash Bros. Brawl which sold 1.59m units in week one, and Mario Kart Wii which sold 1.21m units in week one. New Super Mario Bros Wii is expected to start slightly below those two but should sell more in weeks 2-6 with holiday sales boosts (Super Mario Galaxy may be a better comparison as it came out at roughly the same time of year two years ago although New Super Mario Bros Wii is expected to track at least 50% higher in the coming weeks).

With Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 out tomorrow and Modern Warfare 2 still seeing enormous sales, it will be a busy week but at the moment it looks like Mario will be coming out on top."

Sorry if this has been posted already, looked but haven't found it.

Nintendo may be on the verge of warning of a drop in profits and revenue for the first time in six years, according to this Bloomberg piece.

Net income will probably fall 11 percent to 249.3 billion yen ($2.7 billion) this fiscal year, the first drop since the 12 months ended March 2004, according to the median of 10 analyst estimates compiled since the company cut Wii’s price on September 24.

Nintendo is scheduled to report earnings on October 29.

“Nintendo may cut its profit projection about 30 percent because of sluggish sales in the first half, the price cut for the Wii and currency-related impact,” said Satoru Kikuchi, an analyst at Deutsche Bank AG in Tokyo.

“Investors are expecting the company to fully reflect its business environment in its forecast.”

Whoops. Lots more through there.

The Miyamoto floodgates have opened. Unless we explicitly say otherwise, you should probably just assume that any headline we post for the next 24 hours is a Miyamoto quote. (Miyamoto247? We think it has a nice ring to it.) This time, he’s talking HD graphics and Nintendo’s stance on them.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pretty graphics, and if I’m a consumer that has an HDTV, I’d want to be able to play my games with nice graphics too. And I think as we’ve seen the penetration rates for HDTV increase, we’re going to see video games and Nintendo’s games move along in step with the progression of technology,” Miyamoto told IndustryGamers.

“But what I don’t think is necessarily true is that the graphics itself is something that’s going to make the gameplay experience better. So we’re still going to focus on the gameplay, but we’ll take advantage of the technology as it comes out.

”Wii HD confirmed. For 2019.

Some of the tidbits include plot details, the tools that Mickey will use in his quest, and Mickey's first makeover in years.

Just as Game Informer officially confirmed Epic Mickey for Wii yesterday, Eurogamer has revealed the first details surrounding the title.

The story will be one of revenge. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney's first cartoon character, is jealous of Mickey's fame and success. He runs a world filled with forgotten and obscure Disney elements such as characters, stories, and theme park rides, featuring mechanical characters with bitter personalities. Oswald plots to take over Mickey's world by summoning the Phantom Blot (Mickey Mouse's arch nemesis from the Disney comics) and wiping out everything in sight, Mickey included, by using black ink to make the colors fade away.

Mickey will be using tools related to his animated roots, including paintbrushes, pencils, erasers, paint thinners, and many others. Players will be using these tools to restore the animated world, such as drawing bridges and painting them in the right color, and using the eraser to destroy obstacles.

Mickey will also receive an aesthetic makeover, a rare occurrence for such an iconic character.

seems like it mite be good.

Copypasta cuz it's important. ;D

The Nintendo support forums and our tips email alike are packed with reports that Wii system update 4.2 is doing horrible things to Wii consoles, and not just the modded ones.

A quick scan of the Nintendo tech support forum tells the tale of a system update gone slightly awry. The update is freezing halfway through. The update is giving system errors informing customers that their Wii has been modified and then failing to start. There are even reports of random disk read errors following the update. While some of the problems can be attributed to modified systems, customers are reporting issues with units right out of the box.

Kotakuite Crazy Weavile submitted a possible explanation for the problems on the Nintendo forums, suggesting that the latest update irresponsibly updated the system's bootloader, only to find himself banned shortly thereafter.

While no help is on the horizon for modded console owners, Nintendo tech Jane posted a message in the forums yesterday instructing owners of unmodded Wiis to send their units in for a free repair.

Some of you have reported problems with your Wii console after updating to the Wii System Menu 4.2. The symptoms most people are describing usually occur when the Wii has been modified. However, some of you also mention your system has never been modified.

We'd like to help get your system working properly again. If you're experiencing problems with your Wii console after downloading Wii System Menu 4.2, and you believe your system has not been modified, please give us a call. If we find that you have a normal system and the update caused your system to not work, we'll repair it at no charge.
Please call our Customer Service Department at your earliest convenience, 1-800-255-3700. We are open 6 AM to 7 PM, Pacific Time, 7 days a week.
A bit nasty of Nintendo to go totally killing off modded Wiis, but then Homebrew users have got used to dodging Nintendo's updates.
But this seems to suggest a lot of people are having the update brick their Wiis when their Wii is completely free of such things!

Anyone updated and experiencing problems?

Also, probably goes without saying, but if you haven't yet updated, it's probably best that you don't do so for now, Homebrew or not...

I lol at how Nintendo puts all this effort in to killing modded Wiis, and caused all this trouble, only to have the modders find a workaround 2 days later. xD

I seem to recall someone, Miyamoto I think it was, saying that Twilight Princess would be something like "the last of its kind". Whether I misquoted him or not, it is clear that Zelda Wii will see some major changes.

So, what do YOU want in Zelda Wii? And, while we're at it, what do you EXPECT in Zelda Wii?

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

This thread is for all of the previews and reviews for the game. I plan to read them, because I'm really skeptical about getting this game (and hanging up Smash Bros. Brawl). They say online is suppose to make up for what Brawl lacked greatly. The gameplay looked passable, but so slow. Then again, Brawl started that way.

I guess I'm looking for a buy, rent, or pass. But still, any previews or reviews from anyone?

USA- November 15th
UK- November 20th

Well I was watching videos for the New Super Mario Bros. Wii and noticed a lot of features
from previous games. Some of them are pretty obvious, but just check them out!

Super Mario Bros. won't be added to this list because it's WAY too obvious and there will be too much info to add. Therefore it has not been added.[/COLOR

-Ice Runners
-In Super Mario Bros. 2 there was a snowball named Flurry who could run across ice and followed you around. Some even came in fleets. In NSMBWii there is a similar character which is a penguin who tobbaggons across ice but doesn't follow you. It just gets in your way a lot

 Super Mario Bros. 3
-Return Of The Suits!
-You can now have suits again! In Super Mario Bros. 3 there were some suits based on enemies. There are two suits confirmed, the penguin suit and the propeller suit. The penguin suit is based off the penguin just discussed. The proppeller suit isn't but it could be, there just isn't any info yet.

-The open sewers!
In super mario bros. 3 pipes were used as obstacles, They could get in the way of mario or they could help him by crossing to some blocks with rare suits. In NSMBWii there are pipes shown that arent used for going underground or to cloud world, but to cross lands.

-Koopalings are back!
Instead of Bowser Jr. guarding every single tower, the 7 koopalings do his job. There have been confirmation videos for Morton and Larry. For more info and videos. check out my dead thread
P is for Proppeller
- In nsmbwii there are propeller suits like mentioned earlier. The icon for getting a propeller suit is a P. The P has been seen before in super mario bros. 3 that is seen on an advanced tanooki suit that lets you fly as much as you want unless you are hit by an enemy. The P for propeller is resembled by that except you slowly drift down after propelling instead of going as much as you want.

Watch out Below!!
-Obviously castle levels will have thwomps but something is different about them. Thwomps have a new design to them! The design seems to be an updated version of he Super Mario Bros. 3 design. Most of the time these things are just trials for characters/enemies and they are replaced by a more better looking character/enemy so this is NOT official.

-Fireballs Yum!
In Super Mario World, if yoshi at a red koopa or red koopa shell he could spit fire balls. He would spit 3 fire balls that could go a very far distance. In NSMBWii he could get his fire ability by eating fire enemies (Including Venus Fire Traps!) Yoshi will only spit one fire ball though.

-Bubbles!!
Like in a certain forest level in Super Mario World, mushrooms can be found floating in bubbles. You have to pop the bubble in order for the mushroom to come out. Bubbles are also used to save other players in multiplayer mode. In super mario world, bubbles could also carry Bob-Ombs and round goombas.

-Fruity Tooty
In Super Mario World yoshi could eat fruit to eventually lay an egg. Since Yoshi is rideable, there are many fruit plants scattered around everywhere for yoshi to eat. When eating a fruit you score 1 point. How Swell...

-Caramel Candy (Semi Credit to SuperSonic)
Thanks for the thread picture with the sexy raspberry flavored yoshi i've noticed two new features. The first one is Caramel Candy. Apparantly yoshi's can eat coins like in super mario world. This can be helpfull in multiplayer when your on a yoshi and another player is running for your coin. Stupid yoshi thats not candy!

It looks like you couldn't go any further but if you walk close to the rock then a hidden tunnel would be revealed. You can go inside of it to find items, coins and eggs. In NSMBWii there are also secret tunnels to be found. These are helpful since some contain fruit, coins, pipes and star coins. Also like in Super Mario World 2, once out of a tunnel you will not see the tunnel again but you can go back inside it any time you want

Pop goes the troopa (Semi Credit to Super Sonic)
-Thanks to super sonic I got to post a game cover of NSMBWII with a sexy raspberry flavored yoshi.... ANYWAYS if you look closely at the goomba, it's coming out of the pipe. This was first introduced in Super Mario World 2 where shy guys and Shy ghosts would pop out of pipes for yoshi to eat as eggs. Also used in the previous NSMB goombas will be coming out of pipes, but sadly not for eggs.

Sadly you cant do anything like fly around when carrying each other or roll up into a ball to get through small tunnels like in Mario&Luigi Partners in time.

Double Shrooms
-In Mario&Luigi partners in time there were items called mushroom drops. Mushroom drops would heal every party member by a certain amount depending on the mushroom. In nsmbwii when carrying another player if one person gets a mushroom while being small then both players will grow bigger instead of just one.

NOTICE: I put Double Shrooms in the Mario&Luigi partners in time section because the mushroom effect only effects players when carrying eachother. I know that mushroom drops have been in other games.

You spin my head right round
- In mario&luigi partners in time there were moves used out of battle that required spinning. You could use it to fly or to go underground. In nsmbwii you could use this attack to attack other enemies or evaporate cold air. This move is also found in Super Smash Bros. games but spinning is more important in Mario&Luigi partners in time.

Was talking to my friend at EB Games today asking about when the new Dead Space game was coming out for Wii and he told me it would be up on the shelves on September 27th, two days before it's original release date, big woof huh?

But he said EB usually fails at putting games up on their release date and ends up selling them a week before, Super Mario Galaxy anyone?
Anyway I wasn't really looking forward to this game at first, mainly because of the whole linear rail system.
But being a HUGE Dead Space fan, I think I'll give this game a try.
In my opinion though I think it would have been an even bigger release if it was in third person, I mean RE4 was brought onto the Wii with some tight controls, why can't Dead Space do that exact same thing?

Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. today announced Storybook Workshop for the Wii, an exciting new initiative in their family-friendly games catalogue to reach pre-school children. Scheduled to be released this fall in North America, Storybook Workshop immerses kids and their parents in 16 classic children's fairy tales and fables and many other exciting features. Through the use of the included USB microphone, you can read along, record and play back readings of your favorite stories, including the most beloved tales from Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, Aesop and around the world. Storybook Workshop's unique microphone functionality will even magically change your voice to sound like the characters in the stories, including fairies, giants and robots! Continue the fun with your children in a lively sing-along room where nursery rhymes come to life right in front your children's eyes, and watch as they learn rhythm, language, numbers and shapes in the exciting Play & Learn mode. Your kids can track their progress by using a virtual sticker pad, which will get pre-schoolers excited and motivated to continue to read and complete the stories.

In addition to all the wonderful reading attractions with Storybook Workshop, kids are able to create memories and tap into their creativity simply by using the sound of their voice and "painting" colorful masterpieces that they are able to display on their own personal virtual easel. With all this and more, Storybook Workshop will transform family story time into a wonderfully memorable, fun and enriching experience with your pre-schooler.

"As a parent, I know how hard it is to find fun and engaging activities to share with your kids," said Shinji Hirano, Executive Vice President for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "With 16 bedtime story classics, voice-changing functionality, and the ability to bring your custom Mii avatar into the stories, Storybook Workshop provides kids with a unmatchable reading and learning experience that the whole family can enjoy together."

Featuring a number of popular fairy tales, fables and songs including;

Little Red Riding Hood

The Ugly Duckling

Town Musicians of Bremen

The Golden Goose

The Happy Prince

Video game record keeper Twin Galaxies has posted the first official record scores for Wii Sports Resort. Have you got what it takes to oust the champions?

Can you top 105 in Archery on expert difficulty? How about 999 on the Table Tennis return challenge? Probably not, but if you've got a bit of free time you might want to check out the official Wii Sports Resort records, as you can never really tell if you're just average at a game or some sort of supernatural freak without official scores to compare yourself to. I personally think I might have a chance at the expert Wakeboarding title, as long as no one has to actually see me doing it to qualify.

Check out a selection of the scores below, or head over to Welcome to Twin Galaxies to see how you rank in thousands of other games. Your next obsession could be waiting just around the corner. Next stop, your own hot sauce.

Selected Wii Sports Resort Records and Rankings as of 9/2/09:

Speaking at the GameStop Manager's Conference in Las Vegas tonight, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed the launch details and pricing for Wii Fit Plus.
The bundle - which is the Wii Balance Board and a copy of Wii Fit Plus - will retail for $100. Those who already have the Balance Board can opt for just Wii Fit Plus on a standalone disc, which is only $20. Both those will be out on October 4.

Fans of Nintendo's popular wiifit, will be pleasantly surprised by the way wiimotionplus enhances the experience. Lets hope to see more before release! :D
So we're how many years into the Wii? Still no F-ZERO, I remember playing GX on the Gamecube for hours on end.

I don't know about anyone else but I would LOVE to see this bad boy on the Wii, with of course better online features than Mario Kart Wii which is already collecting dust in my Wii library.

Surprisingly, the news couldn’t be more welcome as it features a new Star Fox for Wii under the name of Star Fox Wii; Battle for Corneria. No details are offered about the game itself.

Although the rumor does go a little further as they specify that the game will accommodate a use for the new Wii Motion Plus plus an ‘Online Space Battle Mode’ with Wii Speak support capabilities.

Are we facing a great bit of investigative news or just another fake? It seems that at least the hinted possibility may be supported by the fact that the official dominion of the StarFox web page has been renewed for one more year.

For now, let’s just keep it in the ‘rumors’ category until we can gather more facts on the topic during the upcoming weeks.

Despite her appearance in roughly a dozen titles over the course of 20 years, little is known about gaming's premier heroine Samus Aran. Where is she from? How did she become a superpowered Bounty Hunter? Who are the Characters that made her what she is? These are JUST some of the questions that the series Creator Yoshio Sakamoto says hes addressing in Other M.

Metroid Fans shouldn't worry that Metroid is losing its focus. Sakamoto promises this is a return to Classic Metroid sensibilities, but is it a 2D plane with Samus able to fire all around angles. Though the Trailer showed us that Nintendo isnt ready to abandon the first person view that was pioneered in the Prime Series, But how does it work? Can Samus still move around? Still scan?

Players who Beat the Original Metroid may remember this quote at the end

"You fulfield your mission. It will revive peace in space. But, it may be invaded by The Other Metroid.
Pray for the true peace in space"

Could the Title Other M be a Reference to this as-of-yet unseen Threat?

- Source -
The E3 Trailer.. Nintendo Channel.
Nothing can be from yourself. It all must be a SOURCE or its all LIES!
The Quote was just somthing I noticed. Sorry NO Source for that. I kno no proof... T_T

Apparantly this videos also prove that during these battles bubbles can come in with mushrooms like what happened in some levels in Super Mario World where bubbles could carry Bob-ombs, Goombas and Mushrooms alone. Also they carry other players but if you watched previous videos and the trailer then you would have already known that.

New Super Mario Bros. is coming out holiday of 2009 and is trying to make the release by November 2nd. You can pre-order it now.

US, August 19, 2009 - Nintendo of Europe brought the E3 2009 build of New Super Mario Bros. (Wii) to GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. Even so, I went hands-on with the 10-level demo of the game, played both as Mario and Luigi, tried on their various power-ups, shook the Wii remote when necessary to perform certain specials, and walked away wholeheartedly entertained -- again -- by the Big N's straightforward, but addictive platformer. The more time I spend with the game, the more I enjoy it, even if it doesn't exactly evolve the genre in any tangible way.

he same 10 short E3 stages were back for Germany, designed as a quick glimpse into the platforming action on the horizon. Included in the roster was an ice stage in which Mario and friends can slide around slippery terrain, a cog-filled lava world that challenges the Italian plumber to avoid being crushed between rotating chunks of metal, and, of course, a robust assortment of colorful, rainbow-drowned levels just as surreal as they are entertaining.

Control is handled with the Wii remote turned sideways -- no nunchuk necessary -- and it feels both very tight and responsive; exactly what you'd expect from a Mario game. As a quickie aside, I also checked out the portable version of LittleBigPlanet and while I'm always impressed with the customization and edit options in Sony's gorgeous platformer, the loose, slow play mechanics simultaneously remind me why I love Nintendo's run and jump games so much. As you move Mario, Luigi and Yoshi through the rotating, ever-changing environments in the Wii title, you will find fun in the subtle, but fluid mechanics. D-Pad manipulates Mario, hold the 1 button and he'll speed up and 2 will make him jump.

Meanwhile, you can shake the controller to effect all kinds of extra abilities depending on the situation. For example, if Mario's got fireballs equipped, you can press the 2 button or shake the controller to shoot them; if he's got his helicopter hat on, shaking the Wii remote will enable him to soar through the air; and if you hold down the 1 button while standing next to another player and shake, you can pick them up -- extremely handy for reasons I'll detail below. You can also tilt the controller left and right in certain levels to control both lighting effects -- a spotlight will illuminate the left and right sides of the level depending on your angle -- and certain adjustable platforms. Additions like these are excellent not only because they integrate Nintendo's controller in a smart manner, but because they help foster competition.

Which leads me to the single biggest improvement made to New Super Mario Bros. for Wii (over its DS predecessor, since let's face it -- these games are otherwise very similar): the four-player-compatible cooperative and competitive multiplayer mode. The title is frankly doubly engrossing when you play with a friend or two because you will find yourselves working against each other just as often as you team up to take on enemies and challenges from the Mushroom Kingdom. I played in Germany against Peer Schneider, former IGN Nintendo editor turned traitorous VP of content at our little network, and we were laughing and groaning as we both made like we were going to help each other out and then instead tried to sabotage one another's characters. You can, of course, blast through levels as a comprehensive team, disposing of goombas simultaneously, planning jumps on the tops of each other's heads to gain height, and so on. But if you play like Peer and I did, you will do just the opposite, picking each other up and trying to hurl one another off ledges, stealing away power-ups before the other can get at them, and even throwing koopa shells at each other on occasion.

Now, a couple little things I noticed about the stages as I played through them. In the ice level, you can turn into a Penguin and slide on its belly, which is useful for gaining access underneath platforms. You can also freeze enemies as the penguin, at which point they turn into makeshift platforms for you to jump on in mid-air. And in certain levels, the floating clouds blow a thick haze of fog that engulfs stages and the only way to clear it up is to either shoot at or jump on the tops of the clouds or, alternatively, spin around as helicopter-hat Mario.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has a crisp, clean, colorful look to it that's sure to please Mushroom Kingdom devotees everywhere. And, of course, the game runs at a rock solid framerate in 16:9 widescreen mode and progressive scan. IGN has new off-screen videos of the game in motion. If you notice my hands and controller in the shot, my apologies -- Nintendo's pointless rules, not mine.

Sauce

Man I'm loving the sound of this, always love how Mario games like this somehow manage to combine such simplicity with such depth and addicting gameplay. I am surprised by all the nice new mechanics too, they sound like great fun.

Soooo can't wait for this to hit the shelves. :D

Have a random gameplay vid. :awesome:

Capcom characters have crossed paths with a number of other members from significant franchises in previous fighting titles. But how does Capcom vs. Nintendo sound? Tatsunoko vs. Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma doesn’t seem opposed to the possibility and even told NGamer magazine that it’s “an interesting idea.”

While I’m not really sure if Niitsuma was being completely serious, the idea does indeed seem intriguing.

In other “vs. Capcom” news, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was originally going to feature Phoenix Wright and Franziska von Karma, but the development team ultimately decided against including the characters. Niitsuma hopes that Phoenix Wright can make an appearance in a future title, however.
In the above advert it appears to be Nintendo’s newest peripheral, a bicycle accessory for your Nintendo Wii. It is unclear if this any tie-in with Nintendo’s recent “horse riding” patent. What’s your take on this peripheral?

Recently at E3, New Super Mario Bros Wii was unveiled, but for whatever reason only a select few characters were to be playable. Well rumor has it, Nintendo may have not let all the cats out of the bag and a collector’s edition with additional characters looks to be in the cards.

A forum member over at CheapAssGamer apparently went into a GameStop to try and pre-order the game, this is what he said about his encounter.

“Stopped by GameStop this morning and was told that they are offering a free upgrade to the collector's edition of New Super Mario Bros Wii when you pre-order the game. I asked what was in the collector's edition and all they knew was that there was supposed to be some additional characters. Hope someone finds this useful."

If true, this would be great, but we have to label this as rumor since Nintendo has not confirmed such a detail about the game, which drops this holiday. It would be great to have more playable characters other then the 4 they are allowing us, in addition to what ever other features the collector’s edition entails.

If anyone else has any details about this we would appreciate the info.
