September Creative Contest #3 - School Year Goals

Hey everyone! It's about time for another Creative Contest and hopefully this one will be just as good!

I hope you all had a great summer. School is probably starting for you or it already is. Do you have any goals for this school year? You get a nice clean start, you probably have some goals you want to accomplish.

You don't go to school anymore? It doesn't just have to be for school. It can be any goal you want over the year. Get a new laptop? Find a new girlfriend? It can be anything. So many goals!

Who May Enter?

Anyone with 50 posts or more can enter.
Being a VIP member.

Requirements

There must be about 5 goals at least.
Try to focus it on school if you go to school.
Give a reason for each of your goals on why you chose it and how you'll achieve it.

Rules

Campaigning (asking for votes) is not allowed. This will result in immediate disqualification.
Review Team members are NOT allowed to enter, but entrants may come to them for assistance.
If you are planning on entering please make sure the list of goals is nicely organized so it can be easily read. Big paragraphs of goals listings will be deleted.

The Review Team has once again come up with another idea for a Creative Contest!

We have plenty of poets out there, I know it. Have you ever shared your work? If so, did it get positive feedback? This contest is for all poets out there.

Summer is a very easy topic to write poetry on. You can write about the season itself, emotions you feel, etc. Now, instead of short stories, we have a poetry theme.

Summer Creative Contest #1 - Summer Short Story

Hey guys!

You all are aware of the Summer Olympics, right? Well the Review Team has thrown together the first of several writing events to help contribute, and here it is.

Speaking of summer, most of us love it, don't we? A break from school for students, a nice time to be outside and enjoy the weather, going on vacation, lots of stuff can happen! I bet you have something that you would like to share with us about one of your summers, maybe something that happened, something that annoyed you, etc.

Then this is the thread for you.

In this Creative Contest, we want you to write a short story about anything that involves something that happened during your summer.

Pokemon Pearl

This game is one of the best Pokemon additions ever made across the world and its hard to argue with that statement, with over 600 hours of game play available it is hard to say that this addition to the Pokemon series is bad.

With the recent addition of a whole new Pokedex it really steps the game up a bit with new battle techniques available and you can show them of over Nintendo Wifi, which is where I got 500+ hours of game play. It is simple as adding your friends code and just jumping on Wifi to either battle or trade with them.

Pokemon Pearl is great, not just because of the online feature its because there are lots of activities to do after you have defeated the game. Like going underground to obtain shards, heart scales and to even play against friends! A GTS system which allows you to obtain any Pokemon and trade them another Pokemon and you don't even have to know the person! Plus much more!

Overall this is the best game I have ever bought and it was well worth its price. Best game ever.

Super Smash Bros Brawl

I really like SSBB. I first noticed I liked it after the first match I played on it. After thats first match I just couldn't stop playing. I was intrigued by the new characters, stages, etc. So I thought hey why don't I unlock everyone?

I started by going to the Subspace Emissary an using that to get my characters. I thought that would be the easiest way and I was right. One night I had my friend over and he helped me. Thast when I realized I needed to get wi-fi. It was fun to play with other people then just myself. So I got wi-fi and started playing people round world. I started to love wi-fi and it has always keeping me playing this game.

The make your own stage part really caught my eye too. I mean, the old one didn't have it and this one did. It was really a great addition. So I started with map making, and it really took off. Making decentmaps isn't so hard anymore. With practice anything can happen. Though making really good stages can be a challenge, but I will just keep trying till I get it right.

Fianlly I loved the picture taking feature. Me and my friends would make scenes for pictures to be taken. I have a great album of cool, funny, and stupid but funny pictures. This also kept me going on this game. Finally this game had all great features that really made love this game.

You mayuse one picture, your reason must be to the opoint and clear, you may choose any game, and there are no limits on how long your paragraphs are. The rules and guidelines are as follows:

What is a Creative Contest?

A creative contest is a writing based contest hosted by a Review Team Member. Each contest will be based differently, for example, a poetry contest, a short story contest, etc... The prize for winning one of these is the Creative Writing Award.

How often will we be hosting them?

There will be two per month, and one review of the month contest.

Small Questions and Answers

Can I host one?

No. Only a Review Team Member may host one.

Can I go around asking for votes?

No. Campaigning has never been allowed in Review of the Month and no exceptions will be made for Creative Writing Contests.

How long will each contest last?

It depends on the decision that the host makes.

The Review Team has put together something a bit different this time around. Not Review of the Month, but Review of the YEAR. That's right, winners of Review of the Month will be placed in a poll and people will decide who has the best review. The winner will receive an award (we are currently working on this).

Voting will begin December 8th and end December 31st. Better suggest someone now, Review Team members if you want them to be on the list when voting begins!

- Avoid bias wherever possible! Try your best to keep your personal feelings out of your review.

- Keep things interesting. There's plenty of room for some creativity when doing game reviews. While your primary goal with a review is to educate, there's nothing wrong with a little entertainment too.

Welcome to the Nintendo Worlds official "Review of the Month #3" Competition!

Last month's "Bad Games" competition went well (If not a little delayed) and had some great entries, but the Review Team want more submissions guys! MORE!

This month's theme is: Third Party Games

OK, so lets see what you all know about Nintendo's Third Party Publishers and the games they make. From SEGA to Konami. Activision to EA, The choice is yours, review a Third Party Game!

Rules and Restrictions:

All Entries...
- must be at least 3 paragraphs in length
- must be all original work (No Plagiarism/Copying other reviews)
- must contain one or more images OR videos
- must be received before the deadline (September 21st)
- can't be the developed OR published by Nintendo
- Games must be from one of the following Nintendo systems: N64, GCN, Wii, or DS

**Failure to abide by the rules WILL result in immediate disqualification**

How to Enter...

Entering the RotM competition is as simple as writing a game review consistent with this month's theme and posting it here in this thread.

About RotM: How it Works

- Each submission received is judged by members of the Review Team. Some of the things that they'll be looking for are: use of proper spelling and grammar, presentation, relevance to theme, and content.

- Three finalists will be chosen by the Review Team to be taken to a public vote.

- Members of Nintendo Worlds will vote on the three finalists to determine the winner.

- The winner will be announced on the final day of the month.

September RotM Schedule

- September 6th: RotM Competition Begins
- September 21st: Final deadline for ALL submissions!
- September 23rd: Polls open, voting begins on the three finalists.
- September 30th: Polls closed, winner determined.
- September 31st: Winner announced!

Prize

The winner of RotM #3 will receive the Stellar Article Award, and their review will be featured in the Hall of Fame.

Tips and Guidelines

- PROOFREAD YOUR WORK!!! This cannot be stressed enough. Entries should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Take the time to proofread your work and fix ANY and ALL errors before submitting it.

- Use good formatting. This means you should spend some time to make sure your review's presentation is neat and orderly. Text should be aligned to the left margin, pictures should be centered, there should be breaks between paragraphs.

- Avoid bias wherever possible! Try your best to keep your personal feelings out of your review.

- Keep things interesting. There's plenty of room for some creativity when doing game reviews. While your primary goal with a review is to educate, there's nothing wrong with a little entertainment too.

- Have fun with it!

Welcome to the Nintendo Worlds official "Review of the Month #2" Competition!

Last month's "Virtual Console Games" competition drew out a lot of unique talents and saw some excellent submissions. We hope to continue the trend!

This month's theme is: Bad Games

We've all played them before. Bad games are just as much a part of the industry as any other games. How could we ever know which games are good without a few awful games in there to compare to?

Now is your chance to try game reviewing from the other side of the fence! This month we want participants to choose what they believe to be a bad game and then review it in a non-biased way. That means that your opinion alone is not going to be enough. You'll need to write a convincing review supported by facts and some persuasive writing in order to justify the final score that you give your game. Good luck!

NintendoWorld's official Review Team presents the first "Review of the Month" competition!

This month's theme is: Virtual Console games

And remember, just because you don't own a VC game doesn't mean you haven't played one.

How to enter:
- All entrants must submit a review on any game in this month's theme.

Rules:
All submitted reviews:
- must be no less than three paragraphs
- must consist of one or more photos
- must be of original work (no plagiarism)
- must be submitted before the deadline

*Failure to follow any of these rules will result in an immediate disqualification.

About ROTM & how it works:
-The winner of the ROTM will be decided by the members of NintendoWorlds. This is how it will work:
- NintendoWorld's official Review Team will read through all entered reviews and select three reviews for the ROTM poll.
- Out of the three reviews, NintendoWorlds members will be able to vote for their favorite.
- The review with the most votes wins!

July ROTM Schedule:

How to Make Reviews

Guide

Hello everybody! I bet you're here to take a shot on becoming one of the proud members of the review team. Now before you take on this vigorous task of professional reviewing, I believe that you should know what is expected of you when you are on this team.

Now along with the delight of a special color instead of a blue one over your name, you have some serious responsibilities of being a part of this team. You will be expected to make all of your reviews close to perfect, spotless, and neat. Also, making frequent reviews is a key. If you are not a very active member of the Wiipals community, I do not recommend this job for you.

If you still sound like you fit this spot, than please continue to read! I will now give you a good outline and prospective on what a review looks like.

You may choose any game on the Nintendo series that you like, but because you are not on the team, I would like to advise that you choose a video game that has been reviewed on already by an affiliate of the Reviewers. This is because you want to save the unreviewed games for when you are a part of the team. So today, I am using one of my own reviews, on WarioWare: Smooth Moves! Note that this was done before I was on the team, and it had already been done by CheepCheep (note my advice above)

I would have to start out by of course by being yourself. I have chosen this outline for myself. I make mine go:

1. What console it was on and the release date
2. The name again
3. Small intro
4. Box art
5. Story
6. Wii Remote Features
7. In game pictures
8. Game Structure
9. Graphics
10. Enjoyable Rating
11. Setbacks
12. Wrap Up
13. 1-10 grade
14. The name again
15. My name

But switch up. Throughout my history of making amateur reviews, I have learned to change up my structure until it is accepted and looks neat. You will go through a lot of changing your reviews, so be expecting it.

Presentation

A) Grammar

A very annoying thing to see in a review is horrid grammar. Wiipals has a nice misspelled word finder, but I prefer to use Microsoft Word. Also, seeing the same word over and over and over again kills me! Programs like Microsoft Word have nice synonyms finders on them, to help the repetitive word syndrome.

B) Pictures

Do not go overboard. You need some, so do not eliminate them completely. I would say that 3 or 4 pictures to a review is a great number. I have also gotten the comment to try to make all of your pictures the same size. This is not necessary, but it again helps with the look. Also, put a caption under all of your photos unless they are box art.

C) Colors

If you have different sections like me, color coordinating them is helpful. If you do choose to color them, carry over the pattern from review to review. Do not switch it up. Also, it would be a good choice to bold certain key areas in your review.

Just because it�s pretty doesn�t mean that it is a review! Fallow the next steps well

What to include

A) Secrets

Make sure that it is a REVIEW! I don�t want to know how to beat the final boss, or who the baby�s daddy turns out to be in the end. Don�t give away a lot at all about this game. It�s nice to know slightly about story, but no more than what can be found in the game manual.

B) Good or Bad Game

Make sure we know what side you on. If you adore this game, make sure we know it, and that everything you say supports it. When you hate it, make us despise it too.

Don�t use �I worship the story of the game but I�m disgusted of the use of the Wii remote use.� If you overall give the game a 2, which brings me to my next tip

C) Rating

It is almost imperative that you rate the game in the end. It has become so popular that it does not seem like a review without on. It is a very important way to wrap off your review.

D) Graphics

A lot of people will not buy a game if it has bad graphics. Talk a little bit about them and compare them to their past games if it is in a series. Use words like clear, precise, and real.

E) Wii Remote/Stylus Activity

This is the Wii that we�re talking about! Popular for the Remote, so you�d better talk about it! If it barely uses it and could easily be put on the Gamecube, say it. If the game mostly consists of minigames, it is most likely a good example of the Wii Remote. Talk about how the game gets you active, and how you have to use this amazing controller.
If your making a review on a DS game... Same thing! With it's touch screen capabilities, it also has tons to offer. Talk about how you use it. Do you move the character around with the stylus, or do you poke little lights with it? Do not forget to mention this feature.

F) Bad areas

Every game has a flaw, so talk about it. This will give others a prospective on why you rated the game how you did. Even if the setback seems very small, it may give some people incentive to not purchase the game, and they will appreciate you for saving their money.

G) Is it Fun?

Is this game fun or boring? No one wants to pay for something that doesn�t make them happy. Make sure you talk about this a lot, because it makes or breaks the video game!

Last, make sure that you give it something to make it stand out from others. Enter something that no one else has. I have seen multiple things that make people�s review unique. Make something up but DO NOT steal from others� trademark reviews.

Now get out there and start making reviews! One good review won�t get you onto the team, but with a little practice, you will make it there someday! Just remember to look at every piece of criticism well.
