It was this day three years ago that some of us were able to get our hands on Nintendo's golden child and what a three years it has been.

As a birthday present, everyone should go out and get themselves a new game for the Wii. I suggest New Super Mario Bros., Little King's Story, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Metroid Prime Trilogy, or Wii Sports Resort.

Here's to another year Wii!

Yep, you heard it, and I doubt you will want to say objection to this. The rumors of a new Phoenix Wright game coming to WiiWare were absolutely true. Just look at this scan from the recent edition of Famitsu. No details about the game have come in yet, but if the past is any indication of the probable quality of this game, I would say we are in for a treat.
EDIT: For whatever reason, the image just won't stay there...if you want to see the scan, just click on the source.

"We are always planning to make new games in the Metroid Prime series. Depending on the timing and the situation, we cannot deny the possibility of realising it on DS or DSi."

This could explain the "secret" ending in Metroid Prime 3 then, and another DS Metroid is very welcome. Metroid Prime: Hunters was excellent, and had online too, unlike the Gamecube and Wii counterparts.
The game is based around killing monsters with over 300 types of weapons and up to 4 players. In another exciting bit of news, the game will also support Wii Motion Plus and the classic controller for those who dislike moving their arms. The game is expected to hit Japan this February.

Shigeru Miyamoto has told ONM that Wii Music still has great potential despite the underwhelming critical and commercial response for his game.

"I think it sold lower than our expectations but on the other hand it was a really unique game, I have to say," Miyamoto told ONM in an interview that will be published in issue 50 of Official Nintendo Magazine. "And also, even today, we are receiving several different offers from people in the field of music education, so as far as Wii Music is concerned, I think is still has great potential. And in the future there might be some developments."

As for what these developments might be, Miyamoto didn't give much away, saying "We may want to think about the possibility of making some improvements, based upon the original Wii Music."

So does that mean Wii Music Plus is on the cards? "Unfortunately we don't have any news we can talk about at the moment," said Miyamoto. "But like Wii Fit Plus, it's not really a sequel to the original Wii Fit - but we have added some features to improve the overall experience. It's a kind of an enhanced version of the original Wii Fit..."

Would you like to see a new, improved version of Wii Music being made? Let us know by commenting below. Don't forget that you'll be able to read ONM's interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in issue 50 of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday 20 November.

source

I loved Wii Music, but I only really liked playing the Nintendo songs. If they could add a larger song collection and implement Wii Motion Plus, then I could totally see more Wii Musics.

Iwata: Vitality Sensor more than a simple pulsmeter

Many of us have been skeptical about the unveiling of the Wii Vitality sensor, wondering just how Nintendo is going to use our pulse to make a fun an interesting game. Well, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata released a statement about the devise:

Quote:

“If Wii Vitality Sensor is simply a pulsimeter, we did not need such a grandiose announcement. It is a tool to analyze various biological signals by scanning the pulse, in order to make something invisible visible. The point with that is you can figure out your current conditions. I believe many of you have figured out with “Wii Fit”, by weighing yourself every day you could figure out how the weight would change according to what you had done. Personally I have figured out how dining-out exactly affects my weights. And there are still more invisible factors, which Wii Vitality Sensor can make into something visible, by putting your finger on that every day.

I have to refrain from disclosing too much to keep the surprises of announcement; but please note that Wii Vitality Sensor is not a simple pulsimeter. I have a strong feeling something fun will appear around this gadget, and am planning to put it as one of the next year’s main topics.”

source

It's definitely something that is going to be interesting. I like the idea of emotional gaming, of making something invisible, visible and tactile, and I think many games could benefit from it.

Nintendo has been well-known for its lack of enthusiasm when it comes to game demos. However, it looks as though Nintendo may be changing its tune. At the most recent Q&A session of Nintendo’s Semi-annual Financial Results Briefing, company president Satoru Iwata indicated that demos of upcoming WiiWare titles will be introduced. And in fact, Iwata hinted that gamers may even see the first demos sometime this month. This is sort of an experiment for now, though, and and it isn’t entirely clear if Nintendo will continue to release additional demos.

The president hopes that this move will encourage Wii owners to become more involved with the Wii Shop Channel. Iwata told investors at the Q&A sessions that sales of digital downloads haven’t been a huge hit yet.

source

Now this is a surprise!

It has been rumoured since it was "revealed" by Shigeru Miyamoto at E3, and has now been confirmed by the man himself that the next installment of The Legend of Zelda on the Wii will make use of the Wii Motion Plus peripheral.

Miyamoto says:

“In this (installment of the series), we’re using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you’re actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand,”
“...In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we’ll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience.”

This will no doubt please those of us who were disappointed by the lack of innovation in the previous console effort, Twilight Princess, and 1:1 sword fighting is one hell of a start in doing so.

This indicates the game is well into its development now too, so hopefully we'll see more than a single piece of concept art from the game soon!

We've just received some exclusive news and specs on the Wii 2 via Logic-Sunrise.com) (though a Nintendo of France marketing employee). The leaked specs denote the Wii 2 will get a Blu-ray drive (mainly to stop piracy), but will also support 1080P for games as well as movies. The new system is due out during the third quarter of next year and there will be the option to trade in old Wii's!

Please note the above image is just for illustration purposes.

More details below (translated from French):

This is a nice exclusive we have here at MaxConsole courtesy of Artik from www.Logic-sunrise.com on the Wii 2. The actual information is said to have been leaked from an internal source of the marketing Nintendo France Service. Unlucky for them, this kind of information should stay internal, but that's not our philosophy.

- The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.
- 1080P and lower resolutions will be supported, for blu-ray movies and games.
- The release date is scheduled for third quarter of 2010.
- The release will be worldwide and on the same day for all countries.
- A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.

Moreover, Nintendo wants to make a worlwide annoucement, only one month before release date. Huge publicity and Viral Marketing will be utilized to create the Buzz. Official pictures are not yet available, and more specs will be released in due course.

Why do we believe it at all ?

* Artik from Logic-Sunrise.com has regularly provided news to MaxConsole and has a lot of 'insider' contacts.

* Nintendo has suggested that it's time they embraced high definition technology for the Wii and Blu-ray has firmly established itself. So a Wii 2 with Blu-ray support does make sense.

:run:

Looks interesting.

Early adopter burning FTW! Nintendo has announced that, less than a year after the launch of the DSi, a brand new, bigger, better DSi is on the way....

Early adopter burning FTW! Nintendo has announced that, less than a year after the launch of the DSi, a brand new, bigger, better DSi is on the way. We had already heard that a DSi with a bigger screen was coming, but today we have been given the new system's name, as well as the first images and specs.
The DSi LL will be getting a chunkier stylus, but aside from that, standalone pics of the system don't make it look any different from your average DSi. However, put it next to an older model and the significant size difference is clear. The DSi LL is ludicrously larger than the DSi.
The DSi LL will launch with three colors -- dark brown, wine red, and natural white. Nintendo has confirmed that the new version will be more expensive than the original DSi, due to its size. At least in Japan, the LL will ship with some DSiWare already loaded into the internal memory, but details about international launches are thin on the ground for right now (although a Euro release is confirmed).
If you want more information than you need, the DSi LL is 161x91.4x21.2mm in size and weighs 314g. It also has around two hours of extra battery life compared to the DSi.
So there you are. Sorry if you already bought a DSi, but Nintendo has a better one now. The best part is, if you bought DSiWare games for your original DSi, you can't upgrade without losing those games. Gotta love Nintendo and its ability to release ten billion versions of one handheld.

We all like seeing fresh news flowing in this forum, and on the front page, so here's a little guide to making a successful news thread, so you can all get involved.

I realise not everyone can make threads here, but if you can't, feel free to make threads in General Gaming as normal, and they may be moved here by a mod.

Don't forget the Stellar Article Award is always up for grabs to anyone that makes a front page article too. ;)

First, the major thing that should always be considered, particularly if the article is likely to be put on the homepage, is the layout.

This mainly means putting massive pictures at the top of the post is a big no-no. It looks much neater on the homepage if the article is accompanied by a small pic at one side.

The code for those nifty in-line-with-text pictures, as I so often get asked, is as follows:

HTML Code:

[IMGA="left"]http://www.picture.picture.com[/IMGA]

The URL between the tags should be the URL of the picture that would normally go between the normal [IMG] tags. Replace "left" with "right" if you're feeling particularly daring. ;)

The pic should also be accompanied with a decent sized introductory paragraph. There seems to be a set cut-off point of characters that will be included in any front page article, so this would be required to squeeze any Youtube videos, big pictures, etc. that would make the homepage look untidy past the cut-off point, if at all possible.
THIS THREAD is a good example, at risk of looking like a self-promoting whore. :awesome:

Using Size 7 pink comic sans should also be avoided for neatness' sake but I'm not too fussed about that. x]

Second major thing: Sauce!!! (Side note: Using correct spelling here is punishable by permaban and/or death.)

It's always good for the site to have as much original content as possible. I'm as guilty as anyone at this half the time, but a thread consisting of nothing but a big block of copypasta from another site doesn't really do a lot of good for ours.
If anything, try and start things of with an introductory paragraph of your own, for homepage purposes, and follow with a small quote from elsewhere, obviously giving Sauce for where you got it.

Goes without saying, but some kind of Sauce would nearly always be needed, whether it's to back up what you're reporting with a link to some official word, or to give credit to where, if anywhere you got any quotes or info. Give a link either under any quote, or at the bottom of the thread.

Sauce

Keep all this in mind when posting some nice fresh news, and you're bound to has success! :D

Thus concludes my extremely untidy thread about making nice tidy news threads. ^___^

tl;dr Format stuff nicely pl0x!!! :D

Miyamoto: Star Fox Unpopular in Japan

Shigeru Miyamoto has made some pretty incredible video game experiences, many of which will go down as the best video games of all time. But that doesn't mean he hasn't been disappointed with the reaction to some of his games. In a recent interview, I asked the Mario creator if there were any titles which didn't quite have the public support that he would've expected at their release:

Quote:

"I tend to forget those games [laughs]. I'm a big fan of the 'Star Fox' games. Every time we make a 'Star Fox' game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the 'Star Fox' games has decreased over the years. But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."

So, in case you're wondering if Nintendo will ever return to the true 3rd person flight sim roots of "Star Fox," just keep in mind that there's someone very high up in the ranks that wants nothing more than to see folks do a barrel roll.

source

I guess this is why Star Fox isn't exactly high on Nintendo's list, since Japan would probably be their primary market and it's not one of their most popular series over there.

There's a new Nintendo DSi coming. And it's coming this year to Japan, boasting a larger 4" screen and... well, a larger 4" screen, according to a report from the reliable Nikkei news service.

According to that report, which appeared in the Nikkei newspaper and has since made its way online, the price for the new, larger DSi will remain the same, 18900 yen. The large screen DSi, three-quarters of an inch larger than the current model, is said to be aimed at an older market, the type who likes big buttons on their telephones and large print books.

While the jumbo Nintendo DSi is planned to hit Japan this year, says the Nikkei, a release elsewhere is said to be under discussion. Nintendo announced the original DSi in a similar fashion, officially unveiling the device last October then releasing it domestically before the end of the year.

We're checking in with Nintendo of America for comment and will update if they have anything interesting or confirming to say.
Sauce

Wow, and most people were talking about the idea of a new handheld being unveiled next year being a dumb one.
Alright, this is just a slight model tweak, the likes of which Sony have done with the PSP around 9001 times now, but still...

Seems to be pretty legit news too.

Think I'm holding off upgrading to DSi for a while now. :awesome:

Miyamoto: Wii 2 to Be More Compact, More Cost Efficient

Nintendo is constantly thinking about or actively planning for new hardware. What form that hardware will take, however, is anybody's guess. And...

Nintendo is constantly thinking about or actively planning for new hardware. What form that hardware will take, however, is anybody's guess. And Nintendo has proven to be quite unpredictable; who would have guessed that they'd build a handheld with dual screens or trade in traditional controls for motion sensing?

In a recent interview with Popular Mechanics, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about Nintendo's future direction with hardware and how important motion sensing controls would be for the company's next platform. Miyamoto responded, "With both the Wii remote itself and Wii MotionPlus, what we've been able to do is introduce an interface that is both I think appealing and at the right price for a broad audience. And while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient."

Miyamoto also addressed Nintendo's stance on HD graphics at a recent roundtable event attended by IndustryGamers. Based on his recent comments, we'd guess that Nintendo's next console will feature even more precise motion sensing along with HD graphics, all packed into a compact form factor. Of course, the company will probably also do something that seems absolutely crazy to us at first, and then sells a boatload for the company in the end.

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyamoto talked about the convergence of technology with video games and other devices. Things have come a long way since the days when consoles were viewed as toys, he said.

"I think originally video-game systems were viewed as a toy, and they were something you played with. Whereas now I think we're starting to see a blurring of the lines, where, obviously, the internal guts of a video-game system is essentially a computer, and we're gradually seeing video games moving beyond simply entertainment into other aspects of everyday life. And I think what video games benefit from is an intuitive interface that's easy to understand, where the controller is a little bit more familiar and easier to use than the interface of a typical computer," he said. "As time goes on, I think we're going to see how the system of the video-game console and this interactive interface is going to gradually bleed in to other elements of, say, home electronics and daily life. For example, in Japan the Wii itself has a TV guide channel that Wii owners can download to their Wii. And for a lot of people in Japan who own a Wii, that TV guide channel is a lot more convenient and easier to use than a typical TV guide service."

source

I think at some point down the road, Nintendo could afford to launch a sort of Wii 2 with HD graphics and such. Keeping it cost-efficient is definitely something that Nintendo wants to keep.

Funny thing about the HD graphics though, most of the watered down graphics come from third party developers who don't want to take the time to make a good looking game. I mean, look at Super Mario Galaxy, very pretty game. Same goes for Red Steel 2, Monster Hunter 3, Metroid Prime 3, Conduit, etc. those games have some real heart behind them and their graphics engine and they still make some really good looking games.

Wrestling manager Captain Lou, Cyndi Lauper's fake dad, and Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Lou Albano passed away today at the age of 76.

Wrestling fans know him as the WWE Hall of Famer who managed more than 50 wrestlers in his day, with more than two dozen championships won by athletes taken under his wing. 80's music fans might remember him from his appearances in many Cyndi Lauper music videos, including "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "She Bop", "Time After Time" and "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough." As gamers, we of course remember him as the best live-action Mario of all time. That's not saying much when your chief competition is Bob Hoskins, but at least he was Italian. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! might have only run a grand total of 52 episodes, but that was more than enough to cement Captain Lou's place in gaming history.

Mr. Albano suffered from a heart attack in 2005 and has been in failing health ever since. He was at home with his family under hospice care when he passed away.

Aside from leading the console wars this generation, Nintendo has also conquered the world of business. According to a report by Business Week, Nintendo is the World’s Best Company for 2009. Not too bad considering Nintendo wasn’t in prime condition after the hurt the GameCube put on the company. Thanks to sales of the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, Nintendo’s stocks rose greatly since the DS launched. Over the last five years, Nintendo has seen sales rise 36% annually, while value growth averaged 38%. Since taking over the company, Satoru Iwata has completely turned the company around. Grossing more profits, thanks to cheaper hardware, Nintendo is becoming a financial giant.

For comparison, Microsoft and Sony aren’t ranked in the Top 40.

DSi Homebrew Block Cracked

Tweaks to the new DSi may have temporarily put the kibosh on homebrew applications, but hackers have developed a new flash device to work around the problem.

In a move to thwart pirating, tech adjustments implemented in Nintendo's updated DSi handheld initially resisted attempts to run homebrew software using a variety of flash cart devices. Though extensive consumer testing of eleven of the major flash carts revealed the DSi successfully blocked them all out, the new Acekard 2i manages to break on through to the other side.
When it comes to stopping a thriving gaming hardware hacking community, resistance is futile. The Acekard 2i does indeed work on the Japanese DSi, but it's hard to say whether or not Nintendo will bother tweaking the handheld's guts a little further to block out the flash device for the DSi's North American release next year.

Flash carts are widely used to play pirated software; but they also greatly expand a handheld's usability, by providing independent developers a platform for their homebrew applications. Nintendo and other major game companies don't like software piracy, and they go to great lengths to stamp it out. The problem is the homebrew development community takes a hit each time new anti-piracy measures are put into play. Flash carts are sort of a gray area, since the line between using them for illegal game piracy and using them for legitimate homebrew applications is so thin.
Well it seems all the rumor and speculation is about to be put to an end, as an upcoming edition of GameInformer confirms the game to be a Wii exclusive!
Expect a truck load of details to be posted soon, but in the meantime, here's the amazing cover art for your gawking pleasure:
It discusses a few things such as new weapons and online features (possibly Wii Speak) being added and contains some pretty sexy footage to boot. :awesome:
In separate, but related news, Chris Kramer, Capcom USA's Senior Director of Communications and Community speaks about what is likely worrying you most if you've been keeping an eye on this game - monthly subscription fees for the online play.

Don't worry too much though, this seems to suggest this unwanted "feature" won't be leaving Japan (or atleast i hope so):
Secondly, Japan doesn't have Friend Codes, so Capcom run all the servers and the monthly fee is essentially to pay for those costs. (Sauce)

Wii Price Cut Confirmed!

We've all known this was coming for a while, with it seemingly being confirmed by everyone BUT Nintendo themselves. But now, finally, it's official. The price of the Wii in US will be cut to $199 as of the end of September.
PAL territories aren't as lucky however, as is usually the case with Nintendo. UK will see the existing price remain, however, a new bundle will hit the shelves, adding Wii Sports Resort and Wii Motion Plus to the existing package, at no extra cost.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii Dated
Alongside the Wii price cut news, came that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be released in US on November 15th and EU only slightly later for once, on the 20th.
NEW YORK — A $50 price cut may be imminent for Nintendo's popular Wii gaming console.
Tech blog Engadget says the Wii, which has cost $250 since its 2006 launch, will see its price drop to $200 beginning Sunday.
Engadget posted what it says is a leaked memo from Best Buy Co. talking about the price drop.
Representatives for Best Buy and Nintendo Co. did not immediately return phone messages left Wednesday by The Associated Press.
Speculation about a price cut has grown after Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. reduced prices on their systems in August. And video game blog Kotaku has posted what it says are images of flyers from major retailers advertising an upcoming Wii price cut.
The Wii is the top selling console worldwide.
Way back on September 23, 1889, a businessman in Kyoto named Fusajiro Yamauchi started a company called “Nintendo Koppai” to manufacture a type of Japanese playing card, called hanafuda. In the six-score years since, while Nintendo still makes playing cards in Japan, the company has become slightly better-known for its line of electronics.

You owe it to yourself to read about the history of the Nintendo Company. Now valued at over US$85 billion, they’re easily one of the most recognized videogame companies in the world. But along the road to that destination, they tried some… interesting ideas, including instant rice and love hotels. Fortunately for kids and videogame geeks everywhere, Fusajiro Yamauchi’s grandson Hiroshi put the company on the path that led to its rise in the global electronic gaming market.

So take a moment today while playing your Wii or DSi after work, or during work, or instead of work, to remark that today marks 120 years since the founding of a company that has brought a great deal of fun to millions of people. They are also majority owners of the Seattle Mariners baseball team, about which you can make what you will.
All that remains is America, but this shows that Nintendo has further plans for the DSi, and its models.

When the Wii was released in November 2006, the motion controls were revolutionary. But that was then. Now it's 2009, and Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has seen the future. The future? The future.
The PS3 already has motion controls with the SIXAXIS, but will be getting more exact motion controls with the wand-like controller. Microsoft's answer to motion controls is Natal.
Square Enix's Wada thinks the impact of motion controls might be "small". In an interview with The Financial Times, the exec said, "Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function."
This being said, Wada calls Natal's user interface "fantastic" and he thinks it will become standard.
According to Wada, the machine that started the recent motion controller craze, the Wii, will be getting a new version in 2011 with more PS3 and Xbox 360 and possibility a new controller — we're thinking this new controller with combine the traditional Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus into a single controller.

This currently holds no water, but it could prove to be true. I, for one will be keeping an eye out for any developments.
Super Meat Boy is one of WiiWare's many projects with its roots in indie Web games (in this case a Flash game), but it's a very special one. Super Meat Boy is one of those super-hard platformers for gamers with serious reflexes, a bit like N+, and it's introducing a wondrous feature that lets you simultaneously play all of your deaths in a given level when you beat it. You'll see this feature displayed in the gameplay footage above in an explosion of meaty, bloody failure. Super Meat Boy is due out before the end of the year and is shaping up to be something that's definitely worth a little attention.

Hilariously fun turn-Based Strategy/Action series Worms has been confirmed to be Fire Punching its way to Wiiware with Worms: Battle Islands. Worms has already had its debut on Wii with retail game Worms: A Space Oddity, but crucially the game lacked any online play. This is set to change however, with confirmation that Battle Islands will have online play, so you can blast craters in your friends with Hand Grenades, Sheep, Banana Bombs and gigantic, Concrete Donkeys as you please for some classic Worms fun.

Don't worry, this isn't another terrible 3D affair either, with the game being the timeless 2D side-on look that we loved.

A few (sadly low-quality) screens have been revealed so far. Not revealing much, but you can see that customizable hats make their return here, as does the Epic last-gasp weapon known as Armageddon from PC and PlayStation classic Worms Armageddon.

Huge fan of the series and can't wait to start blasting the crap out of my friends here over WiFi. :D
Just please, for the love of god, bring back the classic theme tune and those funny video clips. xD

EDIT: OMG!!!

Nintendo of America has laid out its plans for the upcoming holiday shopping season—and a little bit beyond—dating a ton of Wii, Nintendo DS, WiiWare and DSiWare games, while also subtly announcing a few new ones.

The list is long and likely full of third-party goods for both the Wii and DS platforms that won't appeal to the general Kotaku readership, so here are some highlights.

* The Legend of Zelda: Spirits Tracks has been dated for December 7th in North America. You might already know that.
* Sadly, there is no specific release date for New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's still listed as a "Holiday" release.
* Shantae: Risky's Revenge is coming to DSiWare from developer WayForward Technologies.
* Art Style: Digidrive adds another bit Generations title to DSiWare and the Electroplankton DSiWare releases are coming stateside.
* Nintendo will release Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon and Sparkle Snapshots via DSiWare, titles previously unannounced.

But if you want the full list, here it is...source and full list.
Presumably it shouldn't be much longer for the rest of the world either if they're to get it out before Christmas.
This news comes ahead of the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, so expect to see a lot of this game in action there.

Hopefully this should have plenty of WiFi action, just like Phantom Hourglass too. ;)
According to a source close to Infendo, who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions. Nintendo is currently working on a new Star Fox game for either the Wii or the DSi. Although, there hasn’t been word on what system the game is currently being developed for. It was stated that the new installment in the series is suppose to be bringing a breath of fresh air to the series, and remain close to the games roots.

I for one want a Star Fox game for the Wii that plays similar to the Wario Ware mini game in Smooth Moves. What would you guys like to see in the next Star Fox?
Some sloppy web design may have revealed the final four characters for the North American version of Capcom's Tatsunoko VS. Capcom, and one of them has covered wars, ya know?

Shoryuken forum poster Mumu was poking about the source code for the Tatsunoko VS. Capcom character site when he noticed something strange in the HTML. While only a few characters had been revealed on the page itself, whoever had built the site pre-loaded all of the images for said characters in a Javascript function, revealing four characters we've not yet seen.

Quote:

    'images/oncharactor_btn_tekkabla.jpg'

These characters would appear to be Mega Man Zero, Dead Rising's Frank West, Yatterman #2, and Joe Asakura, AKA Jason from Battle of the Planets.

Along with Tekkaman Blade, who was recently revealed, those characters would seem to round out the North American Tatsunoko VS. Capcom roster quite nicely.

Of course sloppy website coding is by no means official confirmation. We've contacted Capcom about this rumor, and quickly received a "No comment!" Make of that what you will.

Frank West? Sold, super sold, if he's in the game that is.

If you haven't yet completely given up on Sega and Sonic, and even if you have, but loved the fantastic original games, you can now cry tears of pure joy as Sega has finally given the true fans what they have been crying out for for over 10 years, as on the dawn of the 10th anniversary of the Sega Dreamcast they have officially unveiled a new 2D and HD Sonic coming to consoles in 2010!

It's unconfirmed what consoles it will be coming to, but we can still hope, and if you've been waiting as long as I have for this, i'm sure you wouldn't mind buying another console for this alone...

A Boy and His Blob is set to hit the Wii next month for you lucky Americans, with it hitting European shelves later in the year. If you haven't been following this game's progress, A Boy and His Blob is a remake of a classic NES game, and promises to join the wonderful trend lately, along with the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, of new titles with modern-day technology combining with the old-school side-scrolling gameplay that we love.

The gameplay is set to stay true to the original game, with 2D platforming gameplay. As the name suggests you play as a boy and his pet blob. You feed your blob Jelly Beans to turn him into a huge variety of objects to help you progress through the level.

The gameplay sounds nice and simple (aren't all great games?) but in an interview with IGN (link), one of the game's developers reveals there are to be over 40 levels, each containing plenty of puzzles and containing hidden treasures and secrets, not to mention another 40 bonus levels. This promises to bring the depth and longevity that many modern day games seem to lack.

Here's a newly-released trailer for the game:

I was going to mention the beautiful art style, but I think the trailer speaks a thousand words here. Just wow...

Keep an eye out for this one.

Remember this? Well, the game has now officially been announced as "Lost in Shadow", a platformer where you play as a boy who lives in the shadow of a mysterious tower. You only walk on the shadows of each platform which is sure to create some interesting puzzles and mechanics.

The boy is not alone though. With him is a little light creature named "Spangle", so even more mechanics are sure to come as perhaps are able to manipulate light and shadows.

This game is being made by Hudson Soft and is slated for a summer 2010 release.

The first games that will be playable on a Nintendo DSi and a Nintendo DSi-only will hit later this year, with the first game officially announced to be Alpha Unit's Monster Finder.

As we expect to happen in North America, the first DSi-only game will be from a third party, taking advantage of the handheld's built-in camera as a core gameplay device. Blog AndriaSang points out some of the gameplay details, which features creature collection via the DSi camera, similar in concept to Sony's Invizimals for the PSP.

There's not much in the way of additional details on Monster Finder, which sounds a lot like a Pokemon clone with a title suspiciously close to Capcom's Monster Hunter.

What we do know is that Monster Finder is due to hit Japan this Winter. It may not come stateside this year (or ever) but expect similar DSi-only software from third parties.

source

From Nintendo Everything: annoucement

Wii Fit Plus comes out on Oct. 4. "Wii Fit Plus will replace the current Wii Fit™ configuration at retail, and will be bundled with the Wii Balance Board™ accessory at a suggested retail price of $99.99. For people who currently own Wii Fit and want to add the expanded options to their fitness regimen, the Wii Fit Plus disc will be available on its own at a suggested retail price of $19.99."

New DSI Colors: "Starting Sept. 13, Nintendo DSi will be available in White and Pink, joining the Blue and Black versions already on the market."

New Black Wiimote, Nanchuck, and MotionPlus: "Additionally, this holiday season, Nintendo will release a new Black version of the Wii Remote bundled with a Black version of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which brings precise motion control to games that have been designed for it. A Black version of the Nunchuk controller also will be available for the holidays."

My thoughts: I have no interest in getting Wii Fit Plus. Glad to see a white DSI and if I didn't have one I would get that. Awesome about Wii accessories I might get Black Remote.

First DSi-only Games Hit Stores This Fall With Distinct Look

Nintendo's Masato Kuwahara, project lead on the Nintendo DSi hardware, revealed that games playable only on the latest revision Nintendo DS were in...

Nintendo's Masato Kuwahara, project lead on the Nintendo DSi hardware, revealed that games playable only on the latest revision Nintendo DS were in the works at this year's GDC. Those first DSi-only games will hit this fall, sources tell Kotaku.

Software that will only work on a Nintendo DSi will join titles playable on a Nintendo DS or DS Lite that also feature DSi-specific enhanced capabilities, like Ubisoft's Jam Sessions 2 and My Healthy Cooking Coach. Games and apps that will only be playable on a DSi will be visually distinct from past product, sources say.

Those DSi-only games will be packaged in all-white game cases, making them stand out from the standard dark gray cases of currently available Nintendo DS games. Those cases will sport a warning that the software is only compatible with the Nintendo DSi. DSi-only game cards themselves will use a similar white plastic, but it's unclear if those re-colored cards will have any difficulty fitting into a DS or DS Lite cartridge slot.

Another unknown is if DSi-only software will take advantage of the expanded tech specs unique to the Nintendo DSi.

It appears that, like Wii MotionPlus, that Nintendo will be letting third-party publishers take the lead in offering DSi-only software. Nintendo itself has offered plenty of downloadable DSiWare games that are system specific, but it has yet to announce any DSi-only retail games as part of its future lineup. Still a risky proposition, considering the comparatively smaller userbase of the DSi platform and the possibility for consumer confusion.

We contacted Nintendo for comment on the introduction of DSi-only games this year, but the company did not respond to requests before publishing.

source

DSi only games, sounds pretty cool considering all the things the DSi has over the normal DS.

Retro struck gold with the Metroid Prime series. If you haven’t purchased the recently released Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii, you should definitely add that to your shopping list as it’s one of the greatest compilations of games ever crafted and the defining game of the Wii for 2009, thus far.

Since releasing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption last year, Retro has been busy working on a new project. In a new extensive interview with IGN, Retro teases their next project. Michael Kelbaugh of Retro Studios says: “I think you'll be very excited when you find out what we're working on.”

What can it be? It likely won’t be another installment of the Metroid series seeing as Tecmo is currently developing Metroid: The Other M for Wii, which should see release sometime next year. After having such great success in resurrecting an old Nintendo franchise, will they be the company to bring back another? Will we see another Star Fox title? Perhaps the long fabled Kid Icarus?

Whatever it may be, hopefully we’ll hear about it soon.

http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z231/SuperSonic1701/edge_lost_winds.jpgLostWinds hit WiiWare last year, and was one of those games that really...

LostWinds hit WiiWare last year, and was one of those games that really showed off what was great about the service, allowing a small publisher to create what turned out to be the masterpiece known as LostWinds.
There was talk pretty much straight away of a sequel, with the strong hint at the end of the game, and now that sequel has been confirmed, with LostWinds: Winter of Melodias featuring in the latest edition of EDGE magazine.

So far a few interesting details have been revealed (sauce):

Called Lost Winds: Winter of Melodias

Toku can change seasons

Switch between summer and winter

Skills: swim, create cyclones

Cyclones have a few abilities such as being able to drill through rocks, scoop up water

Map has been redone

Hint system

Developers were pleased with the first game but still have many ideas

This sounds great to me. LostWinds is one of the most unique, fun and original games in a while, with the only real drawback being the games short length, (lets hope this is fixed,) and they seem to have made this even more unique and original with this new "Seasons" mechanic.

I'll look forward to seeing more of this and picking it up when it hits the, err, virtual shelves. :P

MediaMall's PlayOn service (already on 360 & PS3) is about to enter "open" beta for the Wii, which is good news for owners looking to expand their machine's usefulness. Why? Because it streams both Netflix and Hulu, that's why.

It does this by acting as a bridge-building web interface, so you're basically just using both services' web offerings on your Wii. But still! Your Wii is hooked up to your TV, and has a remote, so surely a few people will find this of interest.

If you want to try it out, you can sign up to the beta over on MediaMall's site. You'll get a 14-day trial for free, and if you want to keep using it after that, you'll have to pay $40.

source

Hm...while this seems cool, the talk around the internet is that this hardly works. If someone tries out the beta, let us know how it works.

Okami Sequel On The Way? **Update - Scans released; Okamiden on DS!!!**

If you're one of those gamers with enough good taste to have played through the masterpeice known as Okami and have seen the ending, you'll know that the ending is left wide open for a sequel. However, if you're a fan of the game, you'll no doubt know that all dreams of a sequel have been all but shattered time and time again, with the demise of the games original developer, Clover Studios, and the sad fact that Okami is one of those great games that sadly never really got the sales it deserved.

However, if you're up for some excitement and risking having your dreams shattered one more time, this may interest you, as a patent in Japan reveals something in the works by Capcom called Okamiden, which apparently translates as "The Legend of Okami".

Kotaku writes:

In 2006, former Capcom subsidiary Clover Studios released the critically acclaimed PS2 title Okami, or 大神 in Japanese.

The game's title, Okami, is a Japanese pun: Written as 大神 in Japanese kanji, okami means "god", but "okami" written as 狼 means "wolf". The main character of the game is a manifestation of the god Amaterasu in wolf form.

A Capcom trademark has popped up online for "Okamiden" (大神伝) or "The Legend of Okami". With Capcom have Western developer Ready at Dawn porting Okami over to the Wii back in 2008 and given the company's penchant for sequels, this could very well be another Okami — one that won't likely be designed by Okami creator Hideaki Kamiya, who has since left Capcom and now heads up Platinum Games.

Then again, it could be something else entirely.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is getting noticeably different treatment on the Wii, courtesy of publisher and developer Ubisoft. Like the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 versions you'll play as the alien Na'vi. But you won't play the humans.

Avatar for the Wii puts you in the role of a Na'vi warrior, meaning a stronger focus on melee combat and a little bit of stealth. During our hands-on time with the game, we crept through the tall grass while taking out those pesky RDA soldiers with our Na'vi staff and bow, requiring much Wii Remote waggling and careful aiming, courtesy of the Wii MotionPlus accessory. While it may not look quite as good as its higher-definition peers, the Wii version of Avatar: The Game has something the other entries don't.

That would be two-player same screen co-op, which allows a second player to join in as a female Na'vi soldier. When a fellow member of the press hopped in mid-game, it appeared that both Na'vi players used the same set of moves. That presented a bit of an obstacle, as the camera didn't quite know what to do in a two-player situation when one of us was trying to aim his or her bow.

Hopefully that's something Ubisoft is aware of and tweaking, as the two-player mode has its benefits—namely the cooperative revive technique.

When my Na'vi was defeated by an RDA soldier in one of those hulking AMP suits, my partner helped revive me, letting us double team that massive exoskeleton. While I was attacking the thing, my partner sneaked into the tall grass, reviving his character with one of Pandora's life giving plants, then finished the AMP suited invader from behind. It worked, but not without some hitches along the way.

The Wii version of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game definitely looked sharp, if you're thinking of going with the motion controlled version. It should ship on or about the same day as its more visually detailed brothers, should you and a friend want to fend off that human invasion of Pandora together.

source

I actually didn't think the Wii was getting a version of this game. Looks interesting and more co-op games are definitely welcomed.

Nintendo Ends Trade Fight Over Wii Video-Game System

Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Nintendo Co., the maker of the top- selling Wii video-game console, settled a U.S. trade fight that could have resulted in a U.S. import ban of the popular gaming systems.

Nintendo and Hillcrest Laboratories Inc. filed a notice with the U.S. International Trade Commission on Aug. 21 that they reached a settlement of patent-infringement claims before the agency. Financial details were blacked out in the copy of the agreement made available to the public.

Nintendo, had it lost the case, may have faced the possibility it couldn’t sell the Wii in the U.S. at a time when the Kyoto-based company’s sales of the top-selling system declined, including a 57 percent drop in the second quarter. An ITC judge was scheduled to release his findings today and the two sides instead asked that he end the case.

Closely held Hillcrest, of Rockville, Maryland, claimed the Wii system and accompanying remote controls infringed its patents related to motion-control technology. Hillcrest was asking the commission to ban U.S. imports of products that used its technology without permission.

Nintendo continues to deny infringing the Hillcrest patents, according to the terms of the accord, titled a “licensing and settlement agreement.”

Motion-Control Technology

Jeremy Pemble, a spokesman for Hillcrest, declined to comment on whether Nintendo has agreed to license the company’s patents. Officials with Nintendo USA’s outside publicity firm didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.

Three of the Hillcrest patents are for motion-control technology and a fourth is for graphical interface software used on the television. Kyoto, Japan-based Nintendo makes the Wii player, which allows users to simulate games by swinging a motion-sensing controller like a bat, tennis racket or other items.

Nintendo and other video-game makers are struggling to maintain sales amid the worst global recession since the Great Depression and the absence of new hit titles. Sales of the Wii console plunged 55 percent in July, the fifth straight drop, researcher NPD Group Inc. said Aug. 13.

Retailers sold 252,500 Wii consoles in July, compared with 202,900 Xbox 360 players made by Microsoft Corp. and 121,800 of Sony Corp.’s PS3, NPD said.

Sony earlier this month cut the price of its PlayStation 3 video-game console by 25 percent to narrow the gap with better- selling machines from Nintendo and Microsoft.

source

Well....at least this stupid matter is finally resolved. I hate these shark companies that just sit on patents waiting to sue any company that becomes successful with the same vague idea. I wonder if Hillcrests Labs will sue Sony when their motion controller comes out?

Red Steel 2 Hands On: Now With Ninjas!

Ubisoft had a newly playable copy of Red Steel 2 at Gamescom, its cowboy-samurai western now full of ninja and 360-degree Wii MotionPlus-powered sword swingin'. And I nearly had my delicate wrist snapped off playing the thing.

After getting a brief overview of what's new in Red Steel 2—including ninja, some fancy new moves like that spinning katana chop and the ability to launch enemies into the air—from creative director Jason Vanderberghe, we got a chance to strap on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk and try it for ourselves.

My stab at Red Steel 2's expanded arsenal of moves—including that finishing move stab that's so fun to pull off—wasn't nearly as easy as Vanderberghe and crew made it out to be. Nor were those bullet-deflecting ninjas, some armed with machine pistols, easy to dispatch.

In fact, I never did successfully pull off that knock-back and lift move, allegedly performed by holding the Wii Remote's A and B buttons to charge, then requiring a Wii MotionPlus-powered lift of the remote. I mostly stuck to using the shotgun and exploding barrels nearby with very limited success. The spinning sword slash, that I did manage to execute once or twice at the risk of elbowing some European press folks in the sternum.

My displays of failure prompted Vanderberghe's colleague to take up the controls to show me how to properly violently jab at the screen—unfortunately with my wrist still in the Remote's strap. These are the dangers of being thrown mid-level into the sequel to a Wii game you've never played.

Despite the clumsiness, Red Steel 2 looks a lot sharper than its forebear, running at a smooth 60 frames per second and showing off a newer, slicker art style. Judgment about how Red Steel 2 plays for now will be reserved, until such time as we can come to grips with fighting cowboy ninjas with a Wii Remote.
Sauce

OMG ninjas!!! :G
All they need to do now is add pirates and this is on course to be epic!

On another note, not sure about how vigorous all this motion sensing sounds, although I guess that's what you get with true 1:1 sword combat. x]

Look at that art though.... O.O
