I decided to sticky this for any new Xbox owners who are unfamiliar with the RRoD. Also it has a customer service number for anybody with this problem. Nice little guide!

The most common cause of the RROD is overheating, particularly on older motherboards. If the console is under 3 years old then it is still covered under warranty and can be sent back to MS for repair, otherwise it is quite easy to fix. Buy yourself an Xbox 360 opening tool and RROD repair off Ebay. Open the console, remove the x-clamps holding the heatsinks to the chips and then use the kit to bolt the heatsinks back down, recovering the chips with thermal paste. This method works, and I have fixed several in the past month this way. It keeps the heatsink securely on the chip and prevents the heat from warping the motherboard and pushing the heatsinks off the chip (as with the x-clamps).
Hope this helps someone.
