If i had to pick again a console i would still go with the ps3, just for the fact that people on the 360 (excluding anyone here) are douches. If you notice, you will only see people arguing and screaming stupid stuff and being as immature as a 10 yr old kid on XBL. It may happen on Ps3, but it is much much less.
At least i have found some awesome people to play with online and i am still buddies with them.

That is technically how online play was meant to work to begin with. Meeting random people quickly to start up a match.
As for the people on XBLA well they are not 10 years olds, and even if they are there are the same amount on the PSN.
I have found awesome people to play with and if you play only with your RL friends on both XBLA or PSN then your missing out on playing with great people.

In my opinion knowing which system your friends play regularly is one of the most important factors.

You sound like you have a lot of fun but there is a reason to play the random match making because it was built into the game. Give it a shot from time to time and I'm sure you'll make more friends, might not happen right away but I think you make friends for sure.
