The true problem with Natal is the lack of the controller. Nintendo and Sony have it right idea, that a controller can't be replaced, you need buttons, and that you need something that melds together the physical and imaginative planes together. Which lends itself nicely to a remote design. Although I'm more than positive that Colbert isn't a video game expert, I think it might be kind of alarming when non-gamers, people who are willing to look a bit silly with the Wii, are not willing, and ridiculing, how silly someone looks with Natal. Colbert made a few other interesting comments, why play a skateboard video game that simulates a real skateboarding when you can just go skateboarding? |

"Why play a tennis game when you can go outside and play tennis?" "Why play baseball when you can go outside and play baseball?" Why play any Wii Sports game or tons of other Wii games if you can go out and do it? The fact is that you're not going to come home from work exhausted saying "Hey, I'm in the mood to go outside and play me some football!" for example, you're gonna think "Man I'm pooped, good thing I have my Wii/Xbox 360 (with Natal) to play instead!" And besdies it is a known fact that being awesome in sports video games =/= being awesome in a sport in real life

Well that's the joke Colbert made: "Now anyone with a skateboard, and the ability to ride a skateboard, no longer has to ride a skateboard." Natal seems to lend itself to such a level of realism, that it almost seems to defeat it's own purpose. You know, with the Wii, most of the games require you to flick your wrist at the right time, Natal seems more like it's going to have you running across the room and bobbing up and down...which seems like you would just learn and do the real thing than pay $500 for a virtual experience that is like the real thing. |

Nah I meant it.
I agree, just like when Roger Ebert claimed that video games could never be art, even though he's probably never touched a Metal Gear Solid 2, Okami, killer7, Shadow of the Colossus or what have you. And he makes tons of comparisons to video games, which angers me up a bit. He's a good reviewer sure, but why make comparisons to things you know nothing about?
