Good guide (I got the Pro, wish I would of got the Elite but it was a present) but I noticed one mistake. The Xbox360 Pro (and probably the Arcade too) can only output to 720p, not 1080. I know this because I hooked it up to my HDTV and it said the output was 720. I know my TV can support up to 1080i, so it must be the Xbox360.

That kinda sucks, and I wish they would of said that on the box . Just another reason why Microsoft sucks. But hey, it isn't that bad, considering their's barely any difference between 720p and 1080i.

You may be right about the arcade having only 720p but I'm pretty sure the Pro has 1080. It says it on my HD tv when I go to the channel but I'll look this up to confirm it. Thanks for that

Edit : I looked it up and it turns out all the xboxs support up to 1080p of High Definition. Not too sure about your problem. It might be your HDTV. Some only support 720p.

No, my TV supports up to 1080i. Maybe it's my HDMI cable, but I don't think cables can control that.

1080i and 1080p could be two very different things. Personally I don't know, but that is probably where you're confused.

Correct. 1080i and 1080p are different resolutions. Since your TV only supports 1080i. Having it set on 1080p pretty much changes by itself to a resolution suitable for your console and the TV. If I was you I'd just keep it on 720p. Like you said the difference is hard to tell and you'll probably never notice it.

As long as your XBOX 360 has an HDMI output located on the lower right back of the console, you can run all the way up to 1080p. Now some t.v.'s do not support up to 1080p as most of those t.v.'s are pretty expensive. So if your t.v. only supports us to 1080i I would reccomend 720p as the resolution to use.

the i stands for interlaced frames and the p is for progressive scan. Progressive scan is always better than interlaced. The whole 1080i vs 720p debate can be googled and tons of information found.

But the difference is minimal isnt it? It wont matter much.

I guess thats pretty much it. But like I said before the difference is almost impossible to tell unless you have a TV screen thats like 10 feet wide. So either way it'll be fine. What Frank Force said pretty much covers it all. If you don't have the the HDMI outlets then use 720p or 1080i.

I have HDMI outputs, and I don't think I can manually change the resolution...so I guess I'll just keep it at 720p. My TV is really small anyway :/

You get three free one months when you purchase a new Xbox 360. I always use mine for clan names or something. It is a little nice feature that let's you try out Xbox Live without having to pay for the service.
