So last night I was playing one of my new favorite games, BlazBlue. I started playing online and I play as Taokaka. I soon found another person who played as her as well, someone much better who wrecked me. So, wanting to get better, I continued to play against him for a while. We sent a few messages and he actually turned out to be really cool, telling me that with each match I was getting better.

Anyway, that brings me to the discussion. While on xbox live you tend to mostly meet idiots and jerks, which makes meeting someone cool all the more special. Do you guys have any interesting stories of actually meeting nice people over xbox live?

Well, most of them are bad, I play Team Fortress a LOT on XBL and most of the people who I play against are the people who can't take being killed over and over or being taunted (Its only a bit of fun taunting)

I must have had at least 20 messages from people in the last 3 months alone complaining about the way I play.

However I do come across the occasional player who actually isn't a jerk, for example when I get bored in TF2 I sometimes just mess around (Spy crabs/sniper humps ) and thats when SOME of the people see that I'm just being stupid and join in with my antics, albeit only 1 or 2 of them will normally join me as the others on their team will still kill anyone who is messing around in a group of both team members >_>

So, overall most people I play against on XBL are sore losers and send angry messages 'cuz thy r so kl nd message lik ths' But when I come across that person every once in a while who gets along well with me and may occasionally get into friendly competitions over points, those are the good times =)

Umm I think when I FIRST went online I met some dude on Halo 3, he was really chill. I suck horribly at Halo and he was like the only person who didn't cuss me out or something just because we lost a match lol

But yea... most people are just douchebags online. :/

Me personally I try to be nice to all the players unless they start messing with me or they start in on the kids online in Halo 3. Nothing I can't stand more than some guy threatening some kid with sexual assualt of the worst kind. So I usually jump into the fray and draw the guys attention off the kid and onto me and then just let the ************************ fly. Which, by the way, most of them are real stupid and couldn't win a battle of wits if they tried.

They like to be competitive so if you falling behind your really gunna hear it from them.

I myself have found someone nice, someone very nice actually. I was playing RE5 and I was online, someone joined and helped me out but left after the next check point. After one level, that person joined again and helped me out once again, but this time left before the level was over. After a few hours I got a message from that helpful person saying he was sorry for leaving earlier and asked if I still needed help finishing the game. I asked for more help and we ended up finishing the game that day.

There was another time during Halo 3 where I was doing very well and the one person with a mic kept cussing at me so after a while I just kept killing him with melees. I know that's not very nice but he definitely deserved it.

I once had someone send me messages trashtalking after me and Splodey destroyed him in team doubles in Halo 3. He ended up calling me an "arsehold"... I gotta be honest, that really threw me off... I mean, how are you supposed to respond to that? XP

Yeah, it definatly helps to be overall friendly. I was actually recently playing Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and beat a kid. He was actually fighting well and didn't just play cheap like most players so I sent him a message saying he was probably better then me and he was actually fun to play against. He later told me that it really brightened his day and added me as a friend. And you ain't kidding about the wits. No matter how much logic you use or how you try and explain things to people the usual responses are "******************" and "pussy".

People on Xbox Live can be jack***** because they think that if other people can't see their faces or know where they live they can do whatever they want. People who care about their accounts make a alt so if they get banned it's no big deal. I mostly find people who are idiots on Halo 3, Left 4 Dead, or Call of Duty games. Mainly these are on the popular side of xbox games.

Left 4 Dead is fun online but most of the people I play against usually suck or they are ignorant 8 year olds who's parents don't care they'll turn into gun obsessed FPS nerds. Some constantly tell you what to do and usually ends up being team killed or killed by the zombies for no skill or charisma skills. Playing survival idiots like to find the best way for a spot where zombies cant reach you. I'd rather play fair and have fun. When I disagree with them they either kick or drop the f bombs

Halo 3 is no doubt very popular because of how many people play it... not the gameplay. It's so easy to be good at Halo 3 people of the easy tactics of shoot and beat down. Some people get very mad at this because they can easily get owned by a random noob who is only a private or something. They'll yell and scream on the mic to release their anger...

Call of Duty.... it's kind of the same thing >_>

Yeah i hate talking to people on XBL...

I just remembered an article in one of my OXM UK magazines, it was about snappy comebacks if someone is being a complete jerk either in-game or post-game.

Here is the article...

Quote:
If you're going to rage quit, you might as well leave your opponent's ears ringing with a barb from your poisoned tongue. Its all too easy to scream expletives, so how about taking snarky potshots at the commitment your vastly more "skillful" opponent has made to perfect their technique? They could probably be the better player, but you've got the moral high ground... probably.

1 - "Congratulations, you're a fantastic advert for the things that can be achieved by someone with no social life."

2 - "I'm going to take a long hard look at myself and unlike you, I probably won't throw up."

3 - "I'm far too bust performing valuable charity work and going on dates with stunning members of the opposite sex to be good at this game."

4 - "You know that technique is considered impure in Japan? I'd be winning too if I was cheap."

5 - "I've gotta go, my girlfriend/boyfriend is calling me. Your mum probably wants you downstairs for dinner too."

6 - "My controller responses are being slowed by my enormous biceps. If you had guns like mine, you'd be losing."

7 - "I'd like to be as good as you but I would rather not cut personal hygiene out of my daily routine."

Thats why I always play Left 4 Dead with friends. Having atleast one other friend makes sure you won't get kicked. I hate people who don't know what they're doing and feel the need to command others. They usually just run ahead and cause a bunch of trouble, which is usually fine because we're already looking for an excuse to kick them. I remember once instance where a guy kept running ahead and we finally got sick of him when he started up the crane without us all being ready even though we told him to wait. We quickly took a vote and before he was kicked he swore and shot at us.... good times...

And I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on Halo 3 and COD. Of all the games out there those are the two that take the most skill to play. They both have more weapon variety, and it also tends to be more difficult to aim then most other shooting games. But what really makes the more difficult to be good at is the fact that they both focus entirely on how fast you can react, think and fight back to beat your opponent... I don't mean to offend, but I've gotta ask, if not those what game takes the most skill in your opinion?

Ugh... Thats why I never play with randoms on L4D aswell, without friends there with you, you will most of the time just get abuse shouted at you and commanded by some 11 year old who has no sense of what he's doing. When I play with 4 friends though we normally manage to kick ass in versus which we almost always win because of the rage quitters and the vast numbers of people who don't have a clue what to do. Its so good when you actually manage to find another team of 4 friends who can be a bit of a challenge.
