Brainstorming Idea Tournament thread

How about a martial arts, and a marksman tournament?

I ran this idea by josh earlier and he said it was fine, but I'm too lazy to make a tourney myself ._. So I'd like to run it by some other people in hopes that i won't have to do it myself.

Martial arts tourney:

Only characters without any projectiles of any kind.

Usable Characters:
Marth
Donkey Kong
Sonic
Ike
Jigglypuff
Captain Falcon
Ganondorf

Marksman Tourney:

Only characters which use projectiles as a large part of their game(Snake excluded due to obvious reasons)
Diddy kong
Pikachu
Lucario
Toon Link
Pokemon Trainer
Lucas
Ness
Link
Pit

Special Occasion (Singles) Tournament: Helping Hand

Intro: Ever get ousted by a character who seems to draw power from friends? Here's a chance to pit allies vs allies and see which helping characters are better than others...

Characters: King DeDeDe (waddle dee), Olimar (Pikmin), Ice Climbers (Nana), Peach (Toad) Only!...
(characters such as Zelda/Sheik, Samus/ZSS, and Pokemon Trainer are not allowed since no two characters take the field at the same time)

Miscellaneous rules: best 2 of 3, no time limit, no items, first round stage neutral, second round stages counter pick by loser

This is just a passing idea I had...Any comments or ideas to maybe make it better?...

Perhaps a reptile themed tourney?

Though that only really allows bowser, yoshi, and the pokemon. And maybe Snake if you wanna get all lolirony on me.

But i think a "beast vs man" tourney could work.

Human characters, against animal based characters.

Humans:

Wario(he's technically human?)

Zamus/Samus
Pit(technically an angel, but eh)

And pokemon trainer could be for both i guess? It's a human controlling the animal based pokemon after all.. idk

I think it's very well balanced. Though some characters are controversial as to why they are in where they are maybe.

And perhaps as a special twist, the lower tier in the matchup(has to be by a whole letter though. but say, dedede(bottom S tier) and marth(top A tier) marth would still get the advantage)

They get to choose the starter stage. So to discourage using overpowered chars in this limited tournament.

I was thinking, when exactly was the last time you guys had a serious match with smash balls on? Try and think of a time where you were in an uber serious match, tensions were high, and you weren't sure if you could win. Then a smash ball appears, almost as if destiny took a moment to smile down upon you.

Well here's wait I'm proposing, how about a srs-face tourney with only smash balls turned on? Now I realize that some characters have extremely powerful S.A's (Sonic, Luigi, etc.), and I know they would be abused so I say that we incorporate a once-per battle clause or something, were you are afforded the use of a smash ball (if you can get it) but you may only use your Final Smash once per round. Think of it as a limit break, each individual player will have to demonstrate true skill to be able to acquire and effectively utilize or avoid the smash ball.

Basic rules and stuff would apply

Here they are:

# Three (3) stock.
# Eight (8) minute time limit. (Or no time limit)
# Only Smash Balls - Set to Low
(You are afforded one Final Smash per round)

General Rules:

1st stage: Neutral stage(Battlefield, FD, Smashville, Yoshi's Island)
2nd stage: Loser's pick(Counterpick stage)
3rd stage: Loser's pick(Counterpick stage)

I would really like to run a Pokemon-themed tournament.

We'll roll out with TBL's idea today, and then we could definitely do a pokemon themed tournament on Friday. There's a lot of tournaments out there at the moment, hence we're slowing down a bit.

Garbage tier tourney could work.
Not low tier by before, since IMHO c and below is unbalanced since a lot of the supposedly low tiers are considered high tier in japan.

But E tier and below. If, and only if signups start to drag on, allow ikes to play since that should probably fix things.

That would be an interesting idea. I know I didn't host a tournament on Friday, but I'll definitely do so this Friday. Most likely there'll be a double header.

Actually, folks, I'll be hosting the E Tier and below tournament. Expect it to be up, tomorrow.
