Sounds like some faulty texture/brawl hacking.
In my experience, having some codes on can ruin the way the game recognizes button inputs over wifi. Thus leading to instances like this.

Do you have any hacks whatsoever on?

Texture hacking? Usually doesn't cause the game to desync like that. But stuff like altering the physics of Brawl (e.g., Balanced Brawl, Brawl+) tends to cause desyncs. Otherwise, I don't see why it would be like that.

At least in my experience anyway. If a texture is faulty, (as in it is a corrupted file), it will not load. Instead, the original .pac will be seen. If the texture works, then it will obviously work (client-sided only) unless the SD card + Wii is being slow, and it will just resort to the original .pac. If there are a LOT of textures used on the SD card, then either: 1. The game will lose connection ("The connection between you and your opponent has been lost" or whatever) or 2. The texture will resort to its original .pac.

Well it's happened with me, all i had on was textures and i had similar/exact problems with other people.
However i did leave room for more than just texture problems.

But I doubt he'd of tried to have other types of brawl on while doing a tourney for regular brawl, but hey. Mistakes like that happen i suppose.

Textures are completely client-sided considering in order for your opponent to see the texture, they need to download the .pac file and replace the same exact CharacterName##.pac. Plus, textures do nothing to change the gameplay except for visual appearance (although see below for exception). Whereas, other hacks such as the Giga Bowser hack, Brawl+ hacks, etc aren't entirely client-sided. Which is why you'll see random hacks being implemented in Basic Brawl. Brawl+, Balanced Brawl, etc are a little different from the Giga Bowser etc hacks because of the changed physics and what not. Your Wii relies on your SD Card for the brawls and all of the outputs don't match the outputs of a normal, non SD-card Brawl. Because of this, online matches will not completely be synchronized correctly if one user has Brawl+ on and another one has regular Brawl on.

And I've toyed around with corrupted, broken, and strange textures because when I first started making textures, I messed up a lot on the files before I compressed it into a .pac and .pcs. But even so, the worst that would happen was it freezing the Wii. No desynchronization in WiFi Brawls though.

The ONLY exception to this is the Project SA-customized .pacs and stuff. If the texture is more than just a regular texture (for example, the .pac file also makes your character have a different moveset), then that will most likely desync.

Is that so?

But none of that changes the fact it did this for me with character textures, no other hacks on either.

Stage textures and music hacks work fine though.
But this does do it for me, but like i said in my first post, "textures/faulty brawl hacks"

I never did say just textures could cause this, but that seems to be the cause for me.
I recall i put in just ONE wario texture outfit(dark/corrupted wario) and whenever i chose him, desync.

But we're getting off topic now, it's not even 100% that the problem here is hack-related,

I highly doubt it was the texture that caused this UNLESS the .pac file also was edited in the way that it changes gameplay and not only appearance. There could also be several factors contributing to the desync, such as other files left on your SD card, or the codeset. But I doubt it was the codeset assuming you're using the latest PhantomWings one.
