Hello this is Haven, new Art of Brawl Series, new Idea, people are liking it, part 4 and day 4 of it existing, so enjoy =) lol/laziness.
But in seriousness welcome to my new idea, The Art of Brawl series where I discuss my experience and explain Ideas you may not even think about when playing the game. A long time ago, when I was a new member in Nintendo Worlds (It was NW back then, plus it's a far better name anyways), I met two guys, I'llworkyou(now known as NaPPy) and Ninja Star (Now known as NiNJa and is inactive atm). These two guys thought I was nub because I was a Pit user, but when I beat both of them, they accepted me as a great player and thought I was the best Pit ever, yadayada, but that isn't the part I want to get to. Every time we had a 1 stock, last life high % match and I would get the last kill, they would type "DAMN, you wanted it more." I didn't understand ************************ of what that meant, but Ninja Star explained saying "If you want to win more, you are most likely going to win, it's all about wanting it" At first I was like "That makes no sense, it's all about skill not thinking you are going to win.." And I thought I was right all of the way until January 2009. I joined the AiB Ladder for the first time, and got a 35-10 record doing remarkable.. Then all of a sudden I lost one match because of an SD, I got really pissed as you can guess, and started thinking the worst of me. Then I lost a set to a mediocre Pit, which made me feel even worse, next thing you know I dropped 250 points from 1800 and had a 35-36 record, I was doing horrible.. You know why? I didn't have the right mindset, I didn't feel like I could win.. and I wasn't good enough because of it. 3 weeks later, I come back with a more at peace mind, I start off fighting a mediocre AiB player, I beat him.. I then fight what I thought was a mediocre ROB until I fought him (He was as good as HolyNightmare, seriously O_O), but I barely beat him 2-1. Then I fight a Snake, beat him, then I fight my friend CLL, beat him, then I fought a Falco, beat him, then I fought Kain, and beat him. By now, I had all of my wins back and a huge win streak. I then lost to an MK (Lol MK) named Sago, but that didn't stop me. After that I challenged HolyNightmare.. I was expecting to lose, but I had confidence for some reason, I was 2 stocked by him last time but I really wanted to win this time, plus he just lost to Atomsk who I get close to beating so I felt like I had a chance. I was really confident... 1st game he wins barely through U-air Hax ( I hate ROB's U-air <_<), second game I 2 stocked him in SV, third game in RC was soo epic.. we both had 180% and I got a lucky U-air, giving me the win.. I beat a guy that 2 stocked me before! Everyone congratulated me, and at first I didn't understand what was wrong. I then talked to my friend Orion about it, and he said "Dude you had the right mindset." I was wondering "Wtf is having the right mindset, having the right prediction skills?" He told me "Nah, you had a good thought process, you believed you could do better and did, you didn't think you were at your limit, you didn't think you would lose, you just kept going forward and won." I then learned a valuable lesson, having the right Mindset and knowing there is no limit is how to break your limits.. I was just a regular Pit user, but now I have evolved far past what I was in March, I am about 20x better and I always have a good mindset lol. I know I stressed this point out before in the 1st Lesson, but this is really important. A large reason why NP Brawler's can never get better from what I see is their reallly bad mindsets. They always get upset when they lose, they always think they are at their limit, they always want to just give up whenever they get raped. That's dumb, if they made that skill level, then there is a possibility you can too (Skill is necessary as well.). You have to always want the win, always believe you can do it, keep a positive mindset so that your head will be in the game the whole time, that way you can definitely get better. I know this sounds kind of convenient, but it's the truth. Whenever I think badly I do worse than I do if I have a positive mindset. I even beat ADHD (Best Diddy Kong in the World) once because of a positive mindset, it really helps! Another brawler who has a GREAT mindset is Ride the Yoshi. Back then he was ridiculed for being one of the spammier players in NP, wasn't considered that great, and he had trouble fighting some people at the same time. However he just kept a very positive mindset, would say "I'll get you next time!" train, learn their style, and come back better than ever. This happened to me when I wrecked his Mario, and he came back with his really annoying and well planned out Falco Strategy <_<. He is a the perfect example of a great brawler with a great mindset, and he has improved tremendously (Even though he always has this 6 month period of disappearing <_<). An Example of a Brawler with a bad mindset (No offense to this person, you are awesome =D), would have to be one of my friends Vio. He's easily one of the best brawlers on the site, but he always calls himself sucky which is really dumb. He always tries to tell himself the worst about himself, especially in brawl and because of it I've seen him lose to people he could of easily two stocked. Modesty is one thing, but really putting yourself down like that is a very bad thing.. You have to always keep a good mindset, and Vio could be one of the best Toon Link's ever if he had one. I am sorry, I really had to stress this point out one more time, it's a great issue I don't want anybody to ever face. I will make a much better Lesson later today to make up for this, but I really wanted this point to be made. However, I do hope you enjoyed my lesson, expect something else today =).

I agree with you Haven, its not just about skill if you don't think your good, or can't win then your skills doesn't seem to work. You have to know you have the ability to win. Its like playing Brawl when mad or something is on your mind is will make you lack from you full potential. I noticed this when i play brawl and i have something the matter i seem to kinda drift off into this idk whats going on state, and my mind thinks about the problem. im glad to hear you back to yourself, and if you want to brawl anytime, let me know. gonna add you as a friend though. im new but i already heard that you are great at Brawl.
and to add one thing, yea people get upset when they lose, but they shouldn't look at it in that matter. i see it as if you beat me then your a good brawler and you inspire me to become better. i like to win, but losing isn't the end for me. I would much rather have a close and tough game and lose then always win against weak oppenets. Losing just shows me there are Brawlers out there that can stand their ground and push me to my limits. and i like havng a good challenge.

lmao xD thats vio for ya.
these threads r 2gud, i actually look forward to reading it every day ._. its amazing how much a good mindset helps, when i brawl someone with an idc attitude i lose probably 90% of the time, unless im just that much of a better player then the other person. but when i have a match with the attitiude of "im not gunna lose no matter what" i can take on peeps that i thought were above me in skill.

That probably explains why I'm not that good. I always say stuff like "I need to practice more" or if I go on a losing streak, I'd say stuff like "I suck" or rant about (I made a whole blog about it if anyone has seen it).
Thanks for the tip. I'll try to think more positive from now on and see if it helps me improve. |

Lol, i learned this pretty much just before i read it ._.
Started 2/3stocking people once i calmed the ************************ down and stopped trying to combo every damn attack into a smash. @_@ Prolly had something to do with me getting back into yugioh, for some reason. Making decks seemed to just calm me down. Though owning sparksman in the olympics tourney might've helped too

This is the reason why Jon got better in Brawl. >_<
I remember he always said he sucked at it, and he was so close to quitting, but then I talked to him, had some great Brawls, then he said he wanted to get better...and guess what happened? He got better. It's weird, cause I don't focus on winning a match...I focus more on getting awesome KOs that make people wet their pants. Only on Wi-Fi, though. I always want to win offline because I have a reputation to keep up with. xD Nice thread. Reminds me of "The Secret." :P
