Can graphics ever be too good?
Have you ever had a drawing that looked pretty good, but then you added more details to try and make it look better and it turned out making the drawing worse?
Sometimes I kinda get the impression that games that put too much of an emphasize on details and such, ended up making the game look really bad. Does anyone else get that feeling sometimes? |

I sometimes do that. I have no idea if the drawing would be good or not until you add more details into it. It's hard to tell if it's done or not until it's too late.

Nah, the more detail, the better. I still think the best graphics that can be found right now aren't too special.
Although, I do think that lack of detail can leave a game way too simple, which takes away seriousness of these types of games.

I've been playing some PS3 games either at gamestop and at my friend's dorm room. The Force Unleashed looks really bad because of the detail. Maybe a sensory overload...but it feels like there's just too much. Sometimes games with simple graphics actually make it look better. Sonic Unleashed looks amazing on the PS3 and I figured it's because the characters are so simply designed.

yeah, they can be TOO good..
when they become the programmers main focus, and that takes away from game play... some games i've played had AWESOME graphics, but the gameplay sucked... and the controls were hard to get ahold of.... give me NES-SNES graphics....

So far the best video games can do is making the thing look realistic. Soon in the future they hope to accomplish virtual reality. It's been done but still at it's prototype.

I would say it could possibly happen. The problem relies on the fact that graphics can be much improved, but gameplay all relies on creativity. You can't improve one's creativity; therefore, the gameplay sometimes seems weak in comparison to the graphics. In other words, it is much easier for companies to make hardcore graphics, but they refuse to actually plan and over-think about gameplay.

It happens... its because the programmers sometimes focuses more on the graphics and details but they forget the gameplay, and that´s the thing that matters... because i had played games with incredible graphics but the gameplay and controls we´re bad...
thats why i sometimes prefer the SNES graphics... they never get old! and the gameplay is good!

they focus to make the game more realistic and forget
the gameplay... maybe old games would look more fun and interesting to play than those extremely detailed games that make them look bad EDIT. Roflol with the mario pic :O!!
