3 things you need to be a hardcore gamer:
1: you have to love to play games, you have to be passionate and competitive about gaming 2: you have to have at least a general knowledge of games. for example, anyone who doesnt know mario, sonic, legend of zelda, etc, is NOT a hardcore gamer days a week. 3: play at least almost everyday. im talking like between 5-7 EVERY gamer has a day or 2 per week where they play for 4+ hours you are NOT a hardcore if you: play for less than 10 hours a week the ONLY game you have ever even come close to mastering is wii sports play nothing but halo and not know what final fantasy is think mario or sonic is stupid do not realize that all 3 consoles have great games/exclusives available for them and all 3 consoles provide the oppertunity for people to be hardcore gamers |

For the most part, I agree with that Steelers.
But I don't we can define a gamer by someone who plays a certain amount of hours a day or a week. Instead, I think we can define a gamer as someone who actively chooses to play a game whenever they can and for the purposes of having fun and challenging themselves, not to simply pass the time. |

You see, the problem stems from "hardcore" really just being there as a status symbol. Like, as a way for one person to say they are better than another person at games. I think it has definitely become more prevalent this gen, with "casual" games and gamers being hunted down like witches, and I think that's the wrong approach to it.
Before, games were just games. Good games were good games and bad games were bad games, gamers played games and people who occasionally picked up a game, weren't, and it was a more or less peaceful co-existence. There have always been games that marketed towards non-gamers, the fact that the PS2 and Xbox could serve other multimedia functions was a thing to get non-gamers to buy their console (not a bad thing). It just seems that this generation, people are acting like it's a make or break moment everyday and the other company or companies have to make a mistake or everyone has to justify their purchase by saying such and such is the best, and while in truth, that's always been there, before, gamers looked down at that kind of attitude (at least that's what it seemed like to me) while now, people seem to glorify this rift people gamers and for virtually no reason at all. |
