Iwata: Price drops? DO NOT WANT

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata doesn't seem like the biggest fan of the price drop. He says:

Quote:
This is my personal thinking, but when the model's price-tag drops over time, manufacturers are telling consumers it's better to wait, and I've always thought that was a mistake.
Over the console's lifetime, companies are able to reduce manufacturing costs. Some companies pass those savings onto the console. Iwata apparently thinks this is a mistake? Not really. He goes on to say that it's important that the first people who go out and support a product aren't made to feel like they bought something at a loss. Point!

Nintendo wants everyone to pay the same price because Nintendo cares about you, me and mad profits.

Its not like we dont have eBay or anything, but this sure sucks.
Everytime, Nintendo looks like its more into making profits than making good games.

It IS still selling greatly... $250 isn't that bad of a price compared to the $399 price tag for the PS3.

I would like it if it were to be cut down by $25 or $50, but I don't think it would be cut down for another year.

Well, it probably one of the reasons why Nintendo is concerned about making something cheap in the first place, so they don't have to price drop and no one feels like "darn, should have waited". And how does them wanting to turn a profit really affect the games they make anyways?

I wouldn't do a price drop either if I was them. The only reason I would ever consider dropping the price is if I felt we needed something to increase our competitive appeal. Since the Wii is still selling like hotcakes there is obviously nothing wrong with that area.

The way the Wii is still saling, it isn't going to have a price cut. It's all about supply and demand. The demand is greater than what the supply is. So why would Nintendo do a price cut? Until supply gets greater than the demand then you will see a price cut. Or when the console life span is about to go out.
