No New Nintendo Console Coming Soon


If you're holding off on purchasing a Wii or DS in preparation for Nintendo unveiling some magical new console or handheld system next year that replaces both, think again. They're content with both for the near future.

Speaking with Reuters, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said that, "We will consider the launch of new consoles when we have got great new entertaining ideas that can only be done with a new console. As we sit here today the Wii console has a long run ahead of it, (the DS too). At some point we will launch the DSi here in the Americas. So as we look at the near term for us it's all about maximizing the opportunity with the (Wii and DS)."

Lest you think "maximizing opportunity with the Wii and DS" is business code for "price cuts," Fils-Aime also mentioned that they don't plan on changing the price on either system at this point. Curses.

umm...no offense but we know! These threads started back in july, and are already answered and closed. No new Nintendo Console. 2011, or 2012 will be when a new console probably comes.

I think it's pretty old news that Nintendo does not plan to launch a new console anytime soon. I remember a long time ago there was a rumor about a Wii HD in 2011, but that was shot down.

I guess I kinda agree with the Regginator is saying though. If the Wii continues to outsell it's competetion despite having inferior hardware, why pester the install base with another Wii console that offers something they really don't care about....(i.e. graphics) I think once Nintendo finds great uses in mind controlled headsets (like the ones being made by Emotiv) then there really is no need to make a new Wii.

i definitely think that the wii has some life left in it. this doesnt surprise me in the least.

The Wii isn't even five years old yet and people already want another? I can wait. I hate it when people think of ridiculous names like Wii 2 or Xbox 720.

I sort of knew this coming. The wii just came out i think about 2 or 3 yearss ago. The gamecube lasted 4 years or 5 maybe? There probably won't be new consoles and no one really heard of any info on new consoles anyway.

Yeah, I knew that 2009-2010 wouldn't contain a new Ninty Console. If anything, it'll arrive in around 2012 perhaps. other than that, I'm quite content with the Wii :0

oh well..
well, remember Nintendo had NES/GB both as their main systems for most of a decade..
so i have no problem with them now keeping the bulk of their focus on Wii/DS.

maybe now they can put more attention on making more quality games.
and out-selling the competition
