Yes, that’s a picture of Sonic the Hedgehog with a sword… and yes, this is

going to be a good old fashioned rant… so if you’re one of the morons who REALLY LOVES Sonic’s new style; stop reading now.

Otherwise… Hit the jump and find out whats rubbing my hedgehog the wrong way.













They gave Shadow a gun in his game, and it was predictably horrible. What makes them think a sword will turn the tide of popular opinion for Sonic? The last good Sonic game was Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. Nothing since then has lived up to the Sonic name. Take for example Sonic the Hedgehog, on the 360. It was riddled with glitches, slow load times (in a game that’s all about speed, this problem is only exacerbated), camera and control issues.




Secret Rings on the Wii was criticized, albeit not as harshly, for the exact same problems. Both titles saw comparatively low sales for for Sonic games, and the team began to panic. They decided that the best course of action would be to add more elements (read: bull***) to the gameplay. The results are the clusterf**** you see above. The one at the top is from Sonic & the Black Night, and the second one is from Sonic Unleashed. One will feature our blue hero dueling evil knights to the death, and the other will have him transforming into a “werehog”, complete with super stretchy arms…. Ummmmm… WTF?!?! Apparently the developers don’t understand simple physics. When a ship is sinking, don’t add more superfluous junk that will only make it heavier, thereby sinking the ship even faster. Removing unnecessary material and stripping the ship to it’s hull and deck gives those aloft a better chance of survival. Get my awesome analogy? As it turns out, Sonic Unleashed was delayed in Japan until spring 2009, to allow the Team further time to “improve the quality of the game”. Hopefully that means “remove junk” rather than “add more junk”. Honestly, just let the poor rodent die with whatever shred of dignity he has left.

well i've done my research and the sword talks and it's name is caliber
and i also gives u tips in the game like omochao and the main enemy is the black knight(king author) and u also play as tails and knuckles and they both have wepons and it takes place in a huge castle in midevil times

Maybe this author should understand that when news is old, everyone knows it already and its "junk" and he's just "adding more junk" with these ignorant articles.

His logic is clueless. He clearly stated that games like Sonic The Hedgehog had faults with camera, speed, glitches, and controls. Naturally, fixing these problems would have made games like Sonic The Hedgehog pretty decent.

So if your the Sonic Team you aim to fix these problems.

So Why would a Werehog and a Sword automatically turn the games to crap? I hate these opinionated articles. Why not wait for the games to actually be Realeased, and then criticize off facts.

idk but IMO I think it look really good so far, BUT I thought the same about The secret rings.... Yeah... but again idk.. dont judgea game by its cover or in this case SWORD

Dude I SO agree with you. THANK YOU! I HATE it when people try to force their opinions on me and try to talk me out of playing the Sonic games that I know and love. For example, I actually thought Shadow the Hedgehog was an OK game. I'm NOT saying its a God-send but its alright for what its worth. Oh but NOOOO! To this day, I deal with people saying "You shouldn't waste your time because Shadow has guns!" If you're gonna shove opinions into my brain, AT LEAST give me more logical reasons WHY you dislike the game besides the small bits and pieces such as weapons.

My first impression when I saw Black Knight, I was thinking "Secret Rings with a sword." No I was NOT turned off by the sword, but rather, I thought the game would be "rail based" again. But I've heard recently that it isn't so I'll definately get it. I'm actually interested to see how the sword play with turn out.

Meanwhile Unleashed looks like it will be hands down the greatest 3D Sonic game of all time. To me, the daytime trailers show that Sonic is truly getting back to his roots with awesome high speed action stages. And here's what everyone's complaining about. The nighttime. I honestly don't mind werehog, in fact, I look forward to trying him. Think about it. If the werehog was left out and it was only daytime style gameplay, wouldn't that make gamers complain that the game is too repetitive? In my opinion there is NOTHING wrong with trying something new. I mean sure there HAS been unneeded things added in Sonic games such as vehicles, but I seriously don't see what the problem is with werehog.

Shadow the Hedgehog had it's problems, but the gun actually made it decent. Sega has stated that they wanted a game that appeals to the older crowd and a younger audience, why does that automatically make their efforts to make a good game futile?

Exactly, they're trying to mix things in to make Sonic Unleashed a full-fledged one player adventure game. If you think of it, they can't come up with 40 different Hi-speed levels with Sonic zooming through it in minutes. That'll make the game short and it'd take years to develop that many levels.

So they've added platforming and adventure to this speed formula to try and give it more Play value. But they wanted detail with this, so Sonic gains levels through experience, there's a story with the werehog, and a new character that needs to trace back his memories.

Isn't Sonic Unleashed releasing very soon? And this author just finds out about the game now and immediately comes up with biased views to come up with ways to trash Sonic because of recent games.

i think that sonic unleashed will keep it alive but sonic and the black knight is retarted you cant give sonic a sword it just dosent work
