Should Innovative games recieve a free pass?
An interesting article written on Destructoid here you should read it.
Should Innovative Games receive a free pass? Now that you've read it, what do you guys think. I think most of us would agree that innovative ideas shouldn't cancel out qualities of a bad game that are essential. In fact, what I love about this editorial is that I think its a step forward in what I believe to be a marathon of running backwards in game reviews. Game are not movies! The flaws found in Mirror's Edge are not compensated by stunning visuals, some "epic"story they threw together (which I hear is not that epic) or innovation (which, as this editorial points out, doesn't have too many game wise). Maybe now people will start to see that some games like Bioshock (I love that game by the way) don't deserve their high reviews for having good visuals, and epic story, and pretending to having "innovation" when they are hindered by bland game design. |
