Can parents take whats not theirs?

Ok so ive been having this problem with my mom. She's always taking my Wii whether its for punishment or just for no reason (yes, she actually takes it for no reason) that me and my bro paid for and ive been thinking "if she didnt put her money into it, can she take it"?

Can parents take what they didnt pay for, punishment or not?

What do you guys think?

VVVV OHhhhh...i see your point....ya i agree with your mom, if did something bad then ya she should take it and punish you, and i can agree with another point that parents can do this to get their kids outside or do something that is not gaming related+

By take I mean as punishment, not because she wants to play, my mom hates videogames.

I'm pretty sure they're allowed to do that, since she is one of your parents, but only if she's taking it for a legit reason.

I think once you turn eighteen, she won't be able to do that anymore. Not entirely sure.



I personally don't like it when my parents took things away from me even though I payed for them. They stopped doing that years ago, however.

You guys both paid for it with your own money, so I don't really think it's justified.

If I buy something with my own money, my parents tell me they won't lay a finger on it, since they realize that it is to an extent unfair if they were to use it. (Assuming I say no)

I respect the fact that parents (generally) look after their kids and take care of them, but it doesn't necessarily mean they can reach into what's theirs whenever they want...

Yeah, you guys have a point. If it's for a legit reason, and you're living under their roof that they pay electricity for you and all.

well shes ur mom she can take anything 2 torture u or punish u even if she didnt buy it ur using her tv she bought i guess

well true they take away the wii that they didnt pay for
BUT
Did you pay for the TV you use it on?
Did you pay for the electricity you use to USE the wii?
Did you pay for the bed you lay on while playing it? (or the couch)
Did you pay for all the games you play on it?
Did you pay for all the food you eat WHILE playing?

There are a lot of things parents DO pay for that they deside NOT to take away.
If you dont want it taken away, dont do something that might prevoke it being taken away.

^I cant help it, even if I dont do anything wrong she takes it anyway, I cant play whenever I want even if I am nice. It sucks being a teen with no freedom.

My parents used to do that to me when I was younger whenever I did something wrong (sometimes, not all the time). I can recall just recently one night when my sister got back home later than she was supposed to, my dad took her car key away. Actually, that happened twice, I believe.

Legally speaking even if you paid for it with your own money, it's not legally yours, minors cannot "own" stuff, it falls under ownership of the parents ._.
