***Disclaimer- This works for a linksys router, but I'm not sure about other routers, seeing as I've never used one.***
When you are making a connection to a router, there might be a red lock next to your router. This means it needs a WEP key. To find the WEP key, you have to... 1. Open the start menu and select Run. 2. Type cmd and press enter. 3. Type ipconfig into the new prompt and press enter. 4. In this prompt, find the Default Gateway number. 5. Open an internet browser and type the Default Gateway number in to the address bar as is. (no www. or .com) 6. This will bring up a login pop-up. 7. If you have a login with the router, then use that login. If you don't have one, then type admin for both the username and password. 8. Select the Wireless tab, then the Wireless Security sub-tab. 9. Key 1 is the WEP key. ***Trouble Shoot*** 1. If there is no WEP key and it says Disabled, then the router isn't locked. 2. If the router isn't locked, and you want it to be, then choose the Disabled pull down menu and select WEP from the list. Then switch tabs, wait a bit, and switch back. There should be a number in the Key 1 option. If not, then use the troubleshooting guide on the web page. Last edited by Freakinpanda; 11-11-2008 at 06:34 PM. |
