Change the IP address of what?
If it's the address your ISP has assigned to you then you simply need to disconnect and reconnect. Contacting your ISP as mr ryan has suggested won't do any good because you're ISP is Sky and they don't issue static ip addresses so you can only do this by releasing and renewing the address manually by disconnecting and reconnecting your modem/router. You could get the router to do it for you from it's status page and select release dhcp then reboot it. |

To release and renew your IP address on your computer if connected to a router follow these steps for your OS.
Win98 Go To Start>Run>Type in winipcfg then hit enter. Find your network card from the drop down window click release then renew. Win2000/XP Start>Run>Type in cmd Type in ipconfig /release Press Enter Then Type in ipconfig /renew Press Enter Also for XP you can right click the network connection icon in the task bar of the connection you want to renew and click repair. It renews the IP and clears the cash of that network connection. For a Mac In OS X 1. Close any open Internet applications (such as Web browsers and email). Be sure to save any changes to any open documents. 2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu. 3. Choose Network from the View menu. 4. Choose Active Network Ports from the Show menu. 5. Deselect the "on" checkbox for port you use to connect to the Internet (such as Built-in Ethernet or AirPort). 6. Click Apply Now. 7. Reselect the checkbox for the port. 8. Click Apply Now. 9. Open a Web browser, and attempt to connect. In OS 9 1. Close any open Internet applications (such as Web browsers and email). Be sure to save any changes to any open documents. 2. Open the TCP/IP control panel. 3. Choose User Mode from the Edit menu. 4. Click the radio button for Advanced. 5. Click OK. 6. Click Options. 7. Click the radio button for Inactive. 8. Click OK. 9. Close the TCP/IP control panel. 10. When prompted, click Save. 11. Open the TCP/IP control panel. 12. When prompted, click Yes. 13. Close the TCP/IP control panel. 14. Open a Web browser, and attempt to connect. Hope that covers it for ya!

That only works for your private network address that the router has assigned you.
You need to log into the router's control panel, depending on the router you've got one of these links will take you to the router login page http://192.168.0.1 http://192.168.1.1 http://192.168.0.254 http://192.168.1.254 Login. If the username and password hasn't been changed it could be any combination of username: admin, administrator or just a blank username password: admin, password or just a blank password Go to the status section and there should be an optionto release/renew the WAN or Internet ip address it'll probably start with 90.193.x.x The easier option would be to unplug the router/modem from the bt socket for 10 minutes then plug it back in again. |

Thanks hill! I'll just unplug it, & tell you if it works. Is it dangerous though?
