Ok...I decided to create a guide for this since many people have been complaining lately about "OMGZZ I CAN'T CONNECTZORZ!! WHA DO IZ DO!!!" So here I am.
And this is a guide for Windows XP Only! Sorry for Vista Users! EDIT: Most of this content can be used for Vista after testing with it! So have fun ^^ First of all, you want to download the most current software "1.06" (especially if you have Vista) using this link here. Next, you must install the software. Follow the instructions here. If the connection fails and you get Error Code 51042, this can be remedied by right clicking the Registration Tool (blue icon in toolbar) and hitting Stop Nintendo USB Connector. Wait for a symbol that looks like two computers with a line connecting to both of them. ![]() Right click the registration icon and hit Run Nintendo USB Connector. While you are at it, click the small little computers and you see your connection. In order for this method to work, once your USB starts blinking green, initiate the connection test for the USB immediately. Take a look at your Connection Screen. If you can see "Packets" being sent and received and moving up with every second, then it worked successfully! However, if it fails after a couple of times, then disconnect the USB from the Computer (extension cord recommended) and reattempt the above. Also, this method above can be used anytime. This method only works if the USB dongle is unplugged from your PC/laptop and is plugged in when all program start-up is complete. If your receive side (Wii/DS) is getting packets, then your connection was successful! Error Code 51342? Click here. The above method should solve this. Also, turning off the firewall for the USB Area Connection will work also. First, open your Control Panel (Windows XP only, sorry Vista Users) and hit Network and Internet Connections. Then go to Network Connections and hit Change Firewall Settings. ![]() Then go to the tab called Advanced and click on your USB Connection. In this case, it's Local Area Connection 3. Uncheck it to prevent the firewall from protecting it. Don't worry: you won't get any viruses. ![]() While you are there, click the Exceptions tab. Click on the Add button if you don't see Nintendo Wi-fi USB Connector and Uninstall Nintendo Wi-fi USB Connector. When you see them on the list, make sure they are checked off and hit ok. ![]() A video to boost your wifi signal: If the video doesn't work, go here and click the first video: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...rch_type=&aq=f Have Internet Connection Sharing Error (6)? Help is here! I have found a way to make your USB work for other devices such as the PSP. You can make your Wifi USB be compatible with other devices by making it a SoftAP! Click here to proceed to your destination. *Note: I am not responsible for those who get their computer bricked, do this under your own will. Do NOT blame me for any of the consequences. This ends my guide. More will be added if necessary. If you have any questions, just post here. Thanks

It's only necessary when you don't have any wireless access in your area, usually via a wireless router.
