i dont know if update 4.2 is the cause of this but soon after i updated the wii i started to get black pixelated dots all over my screen. it started in the menu and soon started it when i played games too... very annoying.... also i noticed that it wouldnt load games all the time like it couldnt find the disk or something.. and it freezes up alot now.... dont know if it is the update or what.... i havent talked to a rep yet but i think it is going to cost about 75 bucks to fix cause the warrenty just ran out....bad thing is that a simmiler thing happened to me before under warrenty and nintendo sent me a new wii but made it a point not to tell me what was wrong with it...i have been leaving it in standby mode (orange light) right about the time of the update . i've heard that leaving it on standby will make it overheat .. i dont have it in a shelf ... i keep it in a open area with plenty of air in a 74 deg. room . i checked the vents for dust and found none or any blockage for that matter. i dont have much dust in the house .i tried leaving it unplugged for a while to kinda reboot it but it didnt work.... anyone have this problem.

well it may be the Update--
apparently it affected NON Homebrew-Wiis too...

try calling Nintendo, and see what they say...
if not--you're kinda screwed until you can get the $$ to get it fixed, or a NEW one

How long have you had that Wii? The video graphics chip (which is known to cause pixelated dots on the screen if damaged) or the hard drive (which is known to cause freezing or disc errors if damaged) may be burning out. This will require repairs from Nintendo.

If it is because of the 4.2 update, Nintendo has said a while ago that they would make a free of charge repair if necessary providing your Wii has not been modified.

Official message from Nintendo:

Quote:
In reading your posts on this topic, there is a perception that 'lots and lots' of people are having problems with their Wii console after having downloaded the Wii System Menu 4.2.

At this point, the number of people who have had a problem is extremely small, and in fact, we have found we can help a good portion of people with troubleshooting to the point that there is no repair necessary. For the vast majority of Wii owners who have downloaded system menu update (SMU) 4.2 there have been no issues.

Anyone who experiences an issue with their Wii after downloading SMU 4.2 should contact Nintendo customer support, and we will work with you to address your specific concerns.

Please give us a call at your convenience at 1-800-255-3700. We are open 6 AM to 7 PM, Pacific Time, 7 days a week.

i havnt modded my wii at all. ive had this one for a little over a year... its like my fourth one.. my first one i bought at release date... and about 4 months later i had to send it off for various reasons .. and now it seems that right after my warrenty is out this starts... SO FRUSTRATING.... SEEMS LIKE IT IS DESTINY... ive even had to send a repaired nintendo back cause the case kept snapping apart after they sent it back to me... nintendo is not the ones who actually make the repaires ... it is a third party....
