Utility Pokémon Moveset and Discussion Thread

Utility pokémon are useful ingame--not for battles (necessarily), these mon learn useful moves or have certain abilities with effects outside of battles or have moves that only help in certain battles, not usually useful on WiFi battles.

This thread will attempt to keep a list of helpful utility pokémon. Use the normal format, but realize that EVs and Natures aren't always necessary.
Descriptions are vital. Without them, we will have no idea why some of these pokémon are useful.


here are a few examples:


Smeargle - Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- Spore
- False Swipe
- Aerial Ace
- Block

Smeargle is a perfect pokémon to use when trying to catch wild pokémon as this set just simply isn't possible on anyone else. Technician boosts False Swipe and Aerial Ace. False Swipe gains the benefit of stab and will never KO, and Aerial Ace is chosen for several several reasons: it will never miss, it has a ton of PP, and nothing is immune to it. So even if you're trying to catch a Ghost-type, Aerial Ace can work. Spore is a 100% accuracy sleeping move and Block will prevent Cresselia and Mesprit from getting away.
EVs provided let him do the most damage possible and let him absorb enough damage. No speed EVs as speed is largely useless.
Leftovers are given so you don't have to constantly heal him, but Sitrus Berries could be used in lieu of them if you want to save time.

- Surf

- Roost / Icy Wind / Pluck

Standard HM slave. Learns two very useful transportation moves, Surf and Fly, as well as the somewhat useful Defog. Last slot is mostly filler. Roost to save money on vitamins, Icy Wind to reduce someone's speed should it find itself in battle, or Pluck to remove berries from pesky opponents.



Persian - Amulet Coin
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- Pay Day
- Faint Attack
- Cut
- Thief / Dig

Perfect for getting money. Amulet Coin doubles the money you get back from trainers and Pay Day gives you money, no matter where you use it. Faint Attack is so you can hit Ghosts or for anyone trying to raise evasiveness. Cut for extra power and utility. Thief can be used for stealing Items, but be sure to take off the Amulet Coin, or you can opt for Dig to escape from caves.



Meganium
- Sweet Scent
- Aromatherapy
- Cut / Strength / Rock Smash / Rock Climb
- Cut / Strength / Rock Smash / Rock Climb

The cuddly dinosaur starter from Gen II can be extremely helpful. Sweet Scent starts a battle in the grass or on the water, useful while EV training SPDef north of Sunyshore or SPAtk at the Resort Area. Be careful, as it doesn't work in areas with weather. Aromatherapy can be used to heal everyone from status. The last two slots are up to what is needed most and any of the last moves could be used to replace Sweet Scent or Aromatherapy.
The reason Meganium is picked over Venasaur is Aromatherapy, but if Aromatherapy is not an issue, Venasaur could be used in lieu of Meganium.

Note: Chikorita may only learn Cut HM and Bayleef cannot learn Rock Climb. If the missing HM's are not an issues, it may not be necessary to evolve to Meganium



Magcargo
- Rock Smash
- Strength
- Yawn

With its abilities, Magma Armor or Flame Body, it will reduce the number of steps it takes to hatch eggs by one half. Rock Smash and Strength are used for breaking rocks and moving boulders. Yawn can be used if you find yourself in battle and the last move is just filler.




And I'm sure that there are a lot more, so post some of your useful in-game pokémon.

I like Quagsire. He's a major HM Slave.

Quagsire:
Rock Smash
Surf
Strength
Waterfall

Can be used for maneuvering through those annoying road blocks such as waterfalls,
Boulders, and rocks. And of course Surf for transportation.

I use Giratina as my HM slave xD

Slash incase you get in a battle.

yeah, i had Abra / Kadabra with Teleport help me out a lot lol. especially early in the game before you get Fly.

I gotta say I love my Charizard the best.

Strength, Fly, Cut, Defog.

3 of those are highly useful for searching down TMs and then defog is for those occasional
fog spots not highly useful.

I just think it's funny that Charizard can learn cut lol.

Works well when your breeding to, cuts 60,000 steps to 30,000.

If they didnt make him we would all be screwed (except fast hatching >_>)
