With hundreds of Nintendo DS game's out right now, finding the right DS game for you can be a very daunting task. Luckily for you, the awesome members of Nintendopals are here to help you in trying to recommend the best of the best Nintendo DS game's! You won't find any worthless garbage mentions from us, we're going to tell you why a game is worth checking out, what the game is about, online quality, everything you'll need to know basically.

Guidelines:

1. A recommendation post should at least be 1 paragraph, include a gameplay video, and maybe a gameplay picture or game-art picture. Also, explain the story, characters, and the online functions (if enabled). Make it a quality recommendation.

2. No spam. I will delete any posts saying something like: "Yeah Twewy ftw!! or "I agree". Seriously, those posts contribute nothing.

3. Please only post one game recommendation per thread page. I know there's lots of epic DS games but let's give other member's a chance to post their recommendation too. They don't want their recommndations overlapped like every 5 minutes D:

4. Please no chit-chat. This is a serious thread, I only want real recommndation so members can get an idea of what they may want to look into or gather more info on.

5. No DSi apps/game recommendations. This is strictly Nintendo DS games, only! For recommendations for DSi apps/ games, please post in this awesome thread: Official Recommend a DSi App Thread

That's it for the guidelines! Happy posting!!

LEGO BATMAN for The DS

Right now, I love Lego Batman so much. It is both nostalgic to my childhood connection with legos and my love for the DC universe. Its a non stressful game but it is also fun and challenging. There are a lot of puzzles in the game and not all of them are easy so it really makes you think. It was a copy-and-paste of the lego starwars game in terms of gameplay style, but the level design, the characters and story made the game different.

Story: THe story is very much based off of Batman The Animated Series. If you know the story of Batman, he is a vigilante super hero who works with the police department in Gotham City to capture criminals. Thats the story, any deeper than that, read the comic book or watch the animated series. In this paticular game, they progress the story though comic panels so it feels a lot like you are reading one of the comic books. It was humorous but not hillarious. The story of Lego Batman is stretched longer than the lego starwars games by introducing both a hero and villain story. So you get to see the point of view from both Gotham's caped hero and Gotham's most wanted.

Gameplay:
You are either given a character in story mode or you choose a character in free play mode. With that character your goal is to make it to the end of a level while progressing through any obstacles that may lie in your way such as enemies and puzzles. It fits into the lego world because your character is constantly breaking things and rearranging them to fit his or her needs to move on in the mission. There are no game overs. When you die, you respawn in almost the same place you died. So the game is very merciful on that part. However you loose your studs (in game money), which can make it a pain if you're trying to get all the required studs in a level. In the game you have a partner who follows you. You will often find yourself trading characters with your partner in order to perform functions your current character can't do.

You can be pretty much any character in the game, although there's a couple of DC characters I wish were included that aren't such as The Creeper, I still enjoy the character selection. In my opinion, Harley Quinn is by far the most fun to play as because of her hammer that's twice her size and can whack apart her enemies easily. Different characters have different abilities they can use to help them progress through the level. For example Poison Ivy is immune to toxic gas and The Riddler has a grappling hook he can use to reach high platforms. Batman and Robin work somewhat differently as where they can obtain special suits throughout the level to give them different abilities. On the whole, in-level gameplay is fun. The only exception is the chase stages. There are six different stages where you either chase villains or escape batman in a vehicle. It was a nice idea but it turned out terrible. The whole "using both screens to make one big screen" didn't do it for me. I wish they could have just used a single screen to show where your car is and use the other screen for your character's hands on the steering wheel, or something like that.

Another big complaint I have with the gameplay is that you have to earn studs to buy a lot of the unlockables, even after you beat the stages to get them. I found it irritating to have to play an extra half hour just to unlock a character that I felt like I just unlocked in the stage I beat them in. It makes the game longer but it doesn't make it more fun. Would it have ruined the game to make most of the characters cheaper than 250,000 studs? Yeah, a little kid is going to have patience for that. Fortunately there is a cheat code to get all characters and extras if it REALLY drives you nuts.

Controls
With the exception of the chase scenes, the controls were fine. I wish there were some other button options in the place where they used the touch screen, but I was able to adapt to it. Your a button does all your enviornmental functions such as pulling a lever and using your grappling hook. Your b button jumps, your y button attacks and your x button allows you to change characters to your parnter's character. They were straight forward and easy to perform. However I hate everything about the driving stages' controls. You go at a ridiculously fast speed while trying to avoid the obstacles in front of you. In order to slow down, you have to hold down on the d-pad. It's irritating because it makes it harder to turn when your trying to keep the d-pad down, but you have to be slow if you want to unlock anything.

Other comments:
My other complaint was with the character customization. Sure it was fun and easy to use but there was one thing that made me very uncomfortable with it. If I'm playing an E-rated game, I should not be able to create a character with a realistic gun and run around shooting random characters. Yeah I get that its legos but it still isn't something I would want my theoretical kids to be doing in a video game. It wasn't as bad in Starwars because it was with futuristic zappers and lightsabers, but I was able to make a character with a tommy gun and run around Arkum Asylum shooting at anyone I wanted in the game. I know its a lego game, but this feature alone would have given the game a T-rating in my book. If it wasn't for that, I'd have no problem with this.

On the whole this game is a lot of fun and I'd suggest it for almost anyone really, but especially those who have a childhood connection with either Batman and/or legos. Although there are some annoying parts, you can use cheats to get around them if they really bother you so you don't really HAVE to do them. Again, parents should keep in mind that there are realistic guns in this game and you have quite a bit of freedom as to what you can do with them. As long as your kid realizes that they are just lego characters, it should be fine.

I'll give the game an 8.5/10

I'll see what I can do about providing game footage. In the mean time, there's plenty of it on youtube.com.
