I use manual for races and automatic for battles. Manual gives you a little boost so yeah x3.

Personal preference, most use manual but there are some decent players on here that use auto.

I prefer manual because like many others have already said, it gives you a boost. But if you can't hold an item behind you and drift at the same time I would recommend using automatic. Because not getting hit is much more important than getting a small boost. in my opinion)
Manual is also nice in battles because... For example: (hehe) you are in DS Twilight House and you are sitting in one of the outside corners waiting for a sucker to drive by so you can hit him.If you are sitting still and you hold down the drift button and THEN you press the gas AND hold it down(the drift button) you can acquire a boost that you can use as soon as you let off of the drift button.
Its all in what your best with! Don't feel pressured to use Manual and then not race good with it. There are plenty of good racers out there that use Automatic.
