1st place has the BIGGEST disadvantage in the race. Think about it for second... Blue shells, Red shell spam, sucky items... When your in 1st place you must be a heck of a good driver or you will be "TOAST!".

yeah because if ur in first u almost always get hit by a blue shell on the last lap if ur facing computers and com in first never get hit unless u throw it.

Well duh thats the one position that everybody is gunning for.Of course you are at a disadvantage.Blue/Red shells are the things that make staying in 1st place the hardest thing to do.

yea u can stop the red shells with an item but there nothing stopping the blue shell! grrr!!

I've dodged a blue shell before.It was about to blow me into a million pieces and I jumped into acannon.Talk about lucky.Howevr I havent tried it yet but if you have a mushroom in first place and at the right time you can dodge the shell.I got a mushroom before in 1st place but chances are very small.

Yeah, but what do you expect when your in 1st place? Everyone to just throw all their stuff backwards so that it doesn't hit you? If you're in 1st place, you're going to get hit a lot, because everyone is trying to get you. That's why I try to stay in 6th or 7th place so that on the 3rd lap, I can pass everyone and end up 1st! LOLz

Leezy97, thats pretty smart for speeding up on the 3rd lap XD I should probably try that one day. But yes once ur first in the race, ur the BIGGEST victime out there, especially for the stupid blue shells lol

In my opinion yes its a disadvantage, unless u know how to get away from the pack XD

A little bit. 1st place has a slight disadvantage, while 1st also has a great advantage. They can cause a lot of people to screw up with red boxes and bananas, or throwing green/red shells backwards. The only disadvantages would be is the leader shell, or not having a item behind your back to dodge a green/red shell. Although they can still hit you with the green shell if they hit you from the side.

1st place has an advantage when they're close to the goal during the final lap, or when they pull a huge lead on everyone.

I tend to stay in 2nd or 3rd so that I can at least get a decent item (like a red shell) to take out 1st place while avoiding the blue shells of doom.

Yep I do this as well.
Staying 1st too early in the race can be a pain in the behind.
