Endless Ocean Help

So... I've passed the game (discovered the Ancient Mother), and now I'm just roaming around trying to find new animals. But their are some fish, no matter how much I pet or poke them, I cannot "discover" them. These fish, which I think are the Viper Fish, Angler Fish, and some shark (I'm an ocean geek...), all live in the trench (whatever it's called). I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I "discover" these fish!?

Are you poking them aswell as stroking them?
Are you feeding them too?
Are you spending time with them at night and during the day?
Have you tried taking one of your companions with you when you dive to try and discover them or even another player over Wi-Fi?

You might have to use your underwater pen. Some fish in the deep will only respond to bright colors. So try drawing circles around them.

OK, I'll try all of that! Thank you so much for the help! I thought underwater pens were pointless, but I guess they're not!

The underwater pen will work for the angler fish and the viper fish. If the shark your working with is the 6 gilled shark, poking makes it angry. Petting works, but it takes a while. It will ignore the pen and the food. If it is the frilled shark, the pen will work. The goblin shark is up for about anything, I believe.
