Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
So I’ve finally broken down and downloaded a Wiiware game instead of the usual NES, SNES, or 64 games. I’ve got to say that I’m rather pleased with my purchase. I used to think downloadable games were dumb and not worth it and that most were made by Pop Cap games that are trying to take over the gaming industry with games that appeal to housewives. Because if I could only hate one thing it would be casual games like peggle but thankfully this game isn’t so lets get on with the review.
First off it is a simulator one of my favorite genres like horror and RPG. So if you’ve played The Sims, Sim City, any of the Tycoon games, or my personal favorite the Jurassic park builder then you will like this game. Also there are familiar faces from Crystal Chronicles and that’s always a plus. This gives the game a sequel like feel but not a bad sequel like Spiderman 3.
Game play is your usual simulator build here make sure the people are happy yadda yadda. Instead of the usual god position you are put in the position of a king hence the name. Controls are smooth and easy to get along with and not confusing unlike most Simulators like some Sims games I’ve played in the past. Zoo Tycoon was like this with controls that were not only hard to learn but maybe its just because I have a hard time with pc games.
I will say the flaw in the slaw of this game is how fast the game moves. Unlike Sim City you are not always building new buildings. This time is used to talk to the town’s people and collect more energy to build with. This can be very boring and take a long time to start doing anything again.
The graphics actually surprised me. I was expecting something a lot worse because it is a Wiiware game. I was however proven wrong and saw that Wiiware games can be decent in the looks department. Hopefully the next Wiiware game I get will look as good if not more than this one.
The Story is another thing they could have worked on a little bit more. Its ok but they could have done better. They could have at least given the bad guy a better name than the Dark Lord. I mean come on with such bad guy names as Golbez, Seymour, Sephiroth, Rubicante, Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, and Barbariccia, they could have done a lot better.
With all said and done I would say this game is well worth the 1500 points. If you don’t have wi-fi go to a friends house and download it there. If you like Final Fantasy or you just like Simulators then I would suggest you get this game. With the Wii going through struggles with its game library anyways you might as well.
