Intro:

New Super Mario Bros. is really similar to all the other Mario games. Baby bowser steals peach (Instead of Bowser this time) and runs every through every castle to get her to Bowser. Will this Mario bros. game be very different from the others? Yes, it will, It contains new abilities like growing half the size of the screen, running with a shell on, and being smaller then a goomba. It also has new and improved 3-D graphics, standing out unlike all the other Mario side-scrollers. The game also has lots of Mini games using the Mic., D-Pad, and the stylus.

Storyline:
This story isn’t all that different from all the other Mario games. Peach has been stolen and needs to be rescued by going to each level and castle to save here. Its up to Mario to save her, will Luigi take part in this? That’s for you to find out. You'll go through eight worlds in the game, but sometimes you may find some secret exits and shorten the main game up to 6 worlds. But sometimes you may want to go back to those levels and look at everything there is to see, but if you just want to get the game over with, you can just blaze through those shortcuts and finish it in a few days.

Longevity:
To be honest, this game really isn’t that long, it took me one day, playing non-stop, to beat it with Mario, and the mini games are exactly copied from Super Mario 64 DS, only with a few new ones. But if you have a friend or sibling with a DS, then it will be lots of fun to play the “Mario VS Luigi” mode or the mini games mode. So if you’re the only one with a DS in your family or with your friends, then it won’t last very long. With another person to play this with makes it way better.

Graphics:
New Super Mario Bros. is not only fun to play, but it looks awsome. The background graphics are all nicely done in 2-D, are nicely detailed, and has a nice looking scenery. Everything in the game is brightly colored and shiny. What's cool in this game is that all the characters are in 3-D. The mix of 3D characters on a 2D backround makes the game look awsome. This game’s graphics are really different from the all the other Mario side-scroller. This shows Nintendo is finally trying to improve their graphics. Plus, some mini-games have been made into 3-D, making them a lot more fun like Yoshi’s snowball game.

Game play:
This games control is played almost exactly like the other Mario side-scrollers. You use the D-pad to walk around with Mario and use the letter controls to jump, run. Or shoot fireballs (The fireballs come from a power up, just to tell you if you’re a newbie.). The new power ups are easy to use, just run, jump, and do what you do normally. Like most DS games, you have to use the stylus (And sometimes the mic.) to do various actions, for this game its used to use your back up power up by tapping it. The stylus is also used in mini games, like the Mic. The controls for the mini-games explain themselves before you start the mini game, so I don’t have to explain it for you.

Sound:
Almost every Mario has catchy tunes and well made sounds. Most of the music for each level goes well with the environment and theme. Mario games always have good soundtracks that always seem to fit the moment and mood in the game. Some other cool things is that there are some remixes in the game, like the 1-2 underground level music that's back. Another cool thing is that some of the baddies will move to the music [Koopas, goombas, etc...]. One example is, in World 1-1, the music is happy and makes a big beat at certain times in the music, it goes "BAH BAH!" and the enemy(s) on the screen will stop and pose for the song. It's a little feature, but small details like this are what make the Mario games so fun special. So this game doesn’t have the best soundtrack for the DS, but most of the songs and tunes will get caught in your head. Not much left to say here.

Overall:
This game is pretty good for the DS, as well as for the Mario series, but it’s not really a must have, but its good enough to buy and enjoy. Most gamers would enjoy this game, but mostly casual. This game is pretty good in my opinion, and now, I think you would be better off renting it, if you can.
