New Super Mario Bros. Review
Introduction
New Super Mario Bros. Is a Mario game that returns to the classic 2-D games. It was released on the Nintendo DS in 2006. It brings back the all the enemies and old power-ups and some new ones. So does the game bring the charm of the old games, and bring in the new stuff successfully or does it fall on its face?
Story
The story is just like any Mario game story. Princess Peach has been captured by Bowser Jr. and Mario has to save the princess. The story is simple and for Mario games that's just fine. But its getting old, and the only difference is Bowser Jr. when they could have made it at least at little bit more different. So overall, the story works.
Graphics
Most of the game's graphics run on the in game engine so I'll talk about that. The graphics are great. They keep the 2-D style of old Mario games (like they're supposed to), but the have some 3-D feel to it. Everything is simple and colorful and well detailed. There wasn't any frame rate drops either. The game's graphics are great for the Nintendo DS.
Controls
The music for this game is what you would expect. I is simple and memorable. It keeps classics and makes them new like the underground theme. This is truly a great mixture of new and old. All the music fits the surroundings and have a good beat to them. You won't be disappointed and you will never be sick of the music.
Controls
OK, that controls are perfect. Everything is precise, and button placement is great. A is jumping, B to run, D – Pad is to walk/run. The controls are simple and can't get any better. There really isn't much I can say about the controls.
Game Modes/Gameplay
Game Modes
There are 3 game modes (not including options). First off the there is the normal single Mario game. It's simple, it's just the normal adventure. And if you hold L and R you can play as Luigi. Then there is Mario Vs. Luigi. This is multiplayer mode. You each go to a course and try to collect all the stars. You can also hit the other player to steal one of their stars. Now onto the mini games. These are short games that you unlock as you play the ones you start off with. They're fun and short, great for multiplayer.
A minigame.
Gameplay
Now I will talk more about the single player adventure. You have three profiles to choose from. While selecting them hold L and R to play as Luigi instead of Mario. First off, you have an over world map. You can move around each world here. You can enter normal levels, secret levels, and toad houses (which contain items). On the map a lot of the secret levels and toad houses require star coins, which we'll get onto later. The levels themselves are great. They contain everything from past Mario games and now have added even more stuff like the mini and mega mushroom. In the levels you have jumping, stopping on enemies, and dodging obstacles and getting to the flag pole without dying. As for new things, you have new enemies, bosses, and levels. It defiantly shows that it is indeed, the Mario bros. 4 (and more). So overall, the gameplay and level designs are a great way to meet new and old succesfully. By far, the only problem is it's way too short.
Mario going through a water level.
So overall this is a great game.
