The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure Review
I tried to write this in the review section, but I am not privileged enough for that, so I am writing my review here.
I do not own any Game Boy Advances, so I cannot review the multiplayer part of the game. I think this game should have been setup with split screen options like numerous other games, but Nintendo loved that GBA Game Cube connection. However, the singe player option might be the most underrated game ever. Overall the game behaves almost identical to "Link to the Past" with a few changes.
1. The levels are separated and not connected by a single overworld which makes this game unique.
2. Items are NOT retained. Every items is only kept until the act is over or you pickup another item.
3. Health is not retained through out the entire game. You start with 4 heart containers and can earn up to 8 in a single act. However, you will always start with 4 in the next act.
4. No Rupees. Instead you collect force gems. After collecting 2,000 force gems, your sword with glow and become far more powerful.
5. The game has 4 Links. I think this one is pretty obvious. In single player mode all 4 Links can act as one, separately controlled or follow the leader. Green Link is the leader.
Even with those changes it still feels like "Link to the Past" with many additions of "Wind Waker". This game takes many parts from "Wind Waker" which includes the character design. Unfortunately I think this game is just as easy as "Link to the Past", which was that games biggest flaw. This game is extremely easy to beat, but it is still a long game. I think it took me close to 30 hours to beat. The controls are different than they were in "Link to the Past" (LTTP), which leads to a few problems. For example. To pickup a bomb in LTTP, you press the "A" button. In "Four Swords" it is the "R" button. I lost so much life because the "A" button uses an item that often destroys bombs. I would think I am playing "LTTP" and preas "A" to pickup a bomb, but blow myself up hitting it with a boomerang. I would have preferred the same or similar controls to "LTTP".
I never write long reviews because I hate reading long reviews. I think I can summarize by comparing it to "LTTP". It feels just like it an expansion to that game. If you liked LTTP, then I recommend "Four Swords". Because "LTTP" might be my favorite Zelda game in the series, I will give "Four Swords" a high rating. It is not quite as good as "Twilight Princess", "LTTP" or "Ocarina of Time". I think it is comparable in quality to "Wind Waker" or "The Legend of Zelda".
I think it deserves a 9/10.
