Lol. That has happened to me on many occassions.
I also used to reverse when i was not playing a seriously, i would get a superstar, and reverse into my opponent, then accelerate, then reverse to keep hitting them, until the star runs out.

i stopped doing it a while back, it was so funny, but people got easily annoyed by it

no not in compenitive race it kills my speed but i do in lol races

ya i tried snaking and drifting backwards in bowsers castle and rainbow road lol didnt turn out good, of course it was a friendly fun match i got 3rd place out of 4 peepz though

I don't see why we shouldn't be able to snake backwards. we should actually be able to do that, just with the B button though, myabe that will be added in a future one.

That would be the new advanced technique that people try to master, snaking backwards

i tried reversing in rainbow road with my friends, and it worked out perfectly, never fell off (almost did though, i was practically riding on the edge) 1st place

Its pretty hard to do that, you will need to know the stage well, know where every turn is, so that you don't fall off

i practice at a competitive rate first, then when i'm way up a head like last time i was on my final lap and people where on their second to last lap then i try backwards
