- Wii Sports Resorts A Hit In Japan -

US, June 30, 2009 - Wii Sports Resort and Nintendo's new Wii Motion Plus device appear to be off to great starts. The Resort/peripheral bundle hit Japan on the 25th, and managed to sell 353,827 units over the course of four days. This makes Resort the third best debut for the Wii in Japan, behind only Smash Bros. Brawl (816,000 units) and Mario Kart Wii (608,000 units).

This early sales figure comes from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain as relayed through Famitsu.com. Sadly, the site did not provide hardware sales figures. One major concern for Nintendo in its home country has been falling Wii hardware sales.

The original Wii Sports sold upwards of 3.5 million units in Japan, where it was not bundled with the system. That's a tough act to follow, but given the long legs Nintendo games tend to have, Resort could have a chance!

Considering Brawl and McWii had a legion of well-developed fans, I'd say the record is good despite the comparison of being 50% of the units of McWii.

WiiAction games could start to become more popular.

No suprise there. This was going to sell good no matter what. Any new game like this that is one of the first to have a hardware that might become standard wil obviosly sell good. If any suprise is here its that it only sold that much.

Honestly I was thinking that it would sell a lot less to be completely honest.

With sells like that Nintendo will definitely make a version for the US.

Um...the U.S. version is being released this month, in fact, I just finished reading Nintendo Power's overview of the 24 playable games. Sword fighting still looks like my kind of game, but the other events are looking really fun too, especially since many of them look like other Nintendo games, like Zelda, Pilot Wing, Wave Racers, and more.

lol, that is pretty fast, and the sword fighting does look pretty good ... but overall it looks like a good game imo

Thats a good reason alone for me to get it... now if they have 2 handed swords to use along with dual swords, I'll be blow away

I think this game will turn out to be very popular. Doesn't surprise me though.

It will probably be well accepted in the U.S. but I hope it changes the Wii's playability a little bit. I'm not sure what this new hardware does but maybe it will help the controlls or the accuracy of the Wiimote which would be a good upgrade in my opinion.

I sure do hope Wii Sports is a Hit in America. That would mean we get more games using Wii Motion Plus...and hopefully more games using Mii
