So you telling me this member Kotakuite Crazy Weavile was banned for suggesting the update was unnecessary? If so then they have some nerve banning him for offering up a suggestion. By banning him all they did was add validation to his theory. They should have instead just refuted it with proof that it was not so. Instead all they did was act like a communist dictator would.

No problem here as of now.
Though It'll suck if my Wii screws up. I specifically got another, one to Hack and one for regular use to avoid such problem. Whats the point now!!!!!? FAIL!!! Hopefully It wont happen.

Fortunately I havent had ANY problems since the Update--and it update smoothly...
Let this be a lesson to those modified Wii owners, HOMEBREW'ers, and other people who've done unlicensed things to their systems... I warned people that Nintendo would stop at nothing to nullify people's Wii's which had been modified... sure, Nintendo needs to deal with the fact that there are more and more people who do things that they may not like, but maybe if people wouldn't HACK their systems, Nintendo wouldnt need to take such harsh measures.

What I find most disturbing with this is if someone updates their unmodified Wii thinking it would help their system and it messes up even though it wasn't even modified, they would have to go through the trouble to send it in to Nintendo for repairs (I assume they would downgrade the firmware to fix it or something similar).
Granted, there is no charge, but who wants to go through that hassle over a bad Wii update made by Nintendo? You would think the Wii owner would screw it up, not Nintendo...

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I don't doubt that it's happened to some people, but it hasn't happened to enough people to be an epidemic say like the Red Ring of Death.
As for Nintendo just accepting that there will be hackers...that's like saying there will be thieves so not upgrading security systems or there will be cancer so just give up on finding a cure. Nintendo has a right to protect their and other company's IP and while I'm sure they couldn't care less people making their own games or modifying data (actually the latter one they would have to since online cheaters could be a problem) but every attack on Homebrew is an attack on piracy. |

I understand it's very frustrating to see your Wii broken, if you haven't modified it, that is. If you, however, should have done something not so nice with it, whyever shouldn't they have the right to protect their products? For sure, it's nice to have all these neat things on your Wii, but... the shame is on you, not on Nintendo.

I updated to the 4.2 FW just like every other update, just for the hell of it. Nothing much ever comes from Nintendo's FW updates, but i update anyway.
I couldn't help but laugh when i read this on Kotaku. I've looked at the Wii as the *safe* console *not counting hackers* compared to the 360's high failure rate & the PS3's high FW failure complaints, then FW 4.2 happens. Regardless, i've had no problems with my Wii since updating. Then again, i've only used the Internet channel. Who know's, i may end up having D.R.E whenever i decide to play a game...
