ATTENTION DUELISTS!: My skills are so l33t and i have so few worthy opponents, I decided to let a few of my pro deck building tips out.
Let's start with basic. Most of you should already know this, but for those that don't, ALWAYS look at staple, and semi-staple cards when building a deck, and contemplate which ones will work well for your deck. --------- MAIN DECK STAPLES: Staples: * "Breaker the Magical Warrior" * "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" * "Heavy Storm" * "Mirror Force" * "Monster Reborn" * "Mystical Space Typhoon" * "Sangan" * "Solemn Judgment" * "Spirit Reaper" * "Torrential Tribute" * "Neo-Spacian Grand Mole" Semi staples: * "Brain Control" * "Bottomless Trap Hole" * "Card Trooper" * "Ceasefire" * "Crush Card Virus" * "Cyber Dragon" * "Dark Bribe" * "D.D. Crow" * "Dimensional Prison" * "Elemental Hero Stratos" * "Gold Sarcophagus" * "Lightning Vortex" * "Magic Cylinder" * "Marshmallon" * "Mask of Darkness" * "Morphing Jar" * "Neo-Spacian Grand Mole" * "Reinforcement of the Army" * "Royal Decree" * "Scapegoat" * "Smashing Ground" * "Snipe Hunter" * "Giant Trunade" * "Book of Moon" * "Summoner Monk" *CREDIT TO Yu-Gi-Oh! FOR LISTS!!* And here are is my list for staple cards which should be in EVERY deck you make. Heavy storm Monster reborn(unless your running a remove from play deck) Mirror force Brain control At least TWO solemn judgements. ----- ISAAC'S STAPLES/SEMI-STAPLES! And now, for my own staple or semi staple cards which many duelists haven't recognized their worth. Messenger of peace(INCREDIBLE stall card. As in the current meta, stalls very well, and you can choose to destroy it at the beginning of your turn, after you draw. AND NO LIMIT. I usually have three of these bad boys) ------ Brain control For decks that rely heavily, or semi-rely on synchro/tuner monsters. Mind control is VERY helpful. Unlike brain control, it can take control of even face down monsters. And while they can't attack, or be tributed(at all) you can use them for synchro material. ------ E-teleport + Krebons + pshycic commander(depends on deck/ personal choice) I try to stuff this into every deck that can use synchros(which is most, and those tend to be best) Krebons is a great card on his own, and e-teleport is a free synchro if used right. Commander is tossed in there to help keep e teleport turning into a dud. ---- (numbers/monsters chosen are up to you) Rescue CAT + X saber airbellum + des koala/ NS dark panther/ sea koala This is just a great one turn summon to high level monster synchro. Just really cant go wrong. Giant trunade + Swords of revealing light not much to say, but if you put in GT be sure to be in swords(though you should put in swords anyay) ---- Great quickplay/spell cards + Royal decree x2/3 Many OTK type decks like to keep opponent trap use to a minimum. So royal decree is a MUST. I use it often in my decks. And almost always run it with... My body as a shield Shrink Cold wave It also goes well with the naturia, and eath based decks due to being able to summon Naturia beast. Because then you just stopped your opponents traps AND spells. ----- EXTRA DECK STAPLES: This part is short, but crucial, these monsters should ALWAYS be in your extra deck, even if you don't use synchros often/at all(can mindgame a bit, as well as brain control and creature swap might give ya a tuner) These will probably be like "lolduh" to most players, but I will state them anyway. Bironac Goyo guardian Ally of Justice-Catastor(only good ally of justice ._. ) Blackrose Dragon Colossal fighter(great for stalling in a swarm type deck as he can keep coming back after battle destruction) Dark strike fighter Stardust dragon x2/3(always want more than one) And a bit situational, but he usually is good to just stuff in anyway, mist wurm. ------ SIDE DECK: For those of you who play for fun, you might just wanna skip this. But for those who frequent tourneys, this is a MUST. First, big BIG BIG deal, is to put in 3 light imprisoning mirrors, and/or 3 dark improsoning mirrors, or both if you do not use dark, or lightmonsters as your main theme (be wary of your synchro monsters types though!) The reason for this, is because lightsworn monsters are easily THE BEST deck in the game. And when you fight them in a tourney standard best of 3, and find out they use lightsworn after the first duel, win or lose, you can edit your deck to stuff in the mirrors. Which will give you a very, VERY nice advantage. Darkness decks are not as huge a threat as lightsworn, and the dark absorbing mirror is not quite as effective against certain darkness decks, as they are to their lighter counterparts, you still want them. ---- Malevelong catastrophe x2/3 In the event of a burn deck, or a deck that relies heavily on M/T cards. Or crystal beast decks. ---- Deck lockdown x2/3 ---- royal decree if you did not run them in your deck already, or just want to keep some in side. ------- GENERIC TIPS. These are mainly for the nubs, but you veterans might want to take a look too. 1: As a rule of thumb, NEVER or at least try not to go over the 40 card minimum. Many n00bies think if they put in so many cards, they will be prepared for everything. But this can ruin the flow of your deck, makes it harder to flow, and usually hurts your chances of getting the card you want. I myself make is a rule to NEVER go over 40. 2: Try to use non-specific, or multi-destroy cards. Like lightning vortex, mirror force, or other such cards over specific effect cards, like sakuretsu armor, or soul taker. 3: Dimensional Prison>>>>Sakuretsu Armor. This needed to be said. 4: NEVER go all out when you know that next turn, you could destroy, negate, or someone get rid of the danger of a trap card, unless of course you know something might happen next turn. Guide up for possible update.
