yes, its probably a glitch. i can see no other reason why.

it probably just glitched that the big platform was moved upward so you couldnt see it. and it looks like an empty void. never experienced it myself though

Happened to me before, but we played several brawls same players, I picked the final destination same i was practicing with lucas, then, I pressed start right before everyones player icon said brawling, I froze the start screen was gone, I couldn't move, next thing i know it's ready, I was scared at the thought that i won't be able to move during the real match. but, instead everything was gone, nothing. but raining players. of course every one said bye and left the match after it was over. So Is that similar to yours?

ive never had that happen but
one time online someone hacked and i played on the target test level 1 stage
another time someone hacked the home-run contest
but there were no edges!
you could go off the screen forever and never die!
