well even 5 or 6 clans can be done easily really, just make the some of the first round GP's 3 racer rather than 2 racers, 1v1v1 with winner going through, it's not that hard

Or, if there's an odd number of teams, let's say 5, so 20 racers, you can do the tournament in 4 flights of 5 or 5 flights of 4 round robin style. (4 of 5 probably works the best). Where everyone in each flight races each other, then highest win total from each flight moves to the semi finals against the other flight winners where it turns into a 4 person single elimination tourney (basically take the semifinals from any normal tourney bracket)
