There's a new Nintendo DSi coming. And it's coming this year to Japan, boasting a larger 4" screen and... well, a larger 4" screen, according to a report from the reliable Nikkei news service.

According to that report, which appeared in the Nikkei newspaper and has since made its way online, the price for the new, larger DSi will remain the same, 18900 yen. The large screen DSi, three-quarters of an inch larger than the current model, is said to be aimed at an older market, the type who likes big buttons on their telephones and large print books.

While the jumbo Nintendo DSi is planned to hit Japan this year, says the Nikkei, a release elsewhere is said to be under discussion. Nintendo announced the original DSi in a similar fashion, officially unveiling the device last October then releasing it domestically before the end of the year.

We're checking in with Nintendo of America for comment and will update if they have anything interesting or confirming to say.

Wow, and most people were talking about the idea of a new handheld being unveiled next year being a dumb one.
Alright, this is just a slight model tweak, the likes of which Sony have done with the PSP around 9001 times now, but still...

Seems to be pretty legit news too.

Think I'm holding off upgrading to DSi for a while now.

I think I'll stick with my DSi, although maybe, just maybe, people on the fence about the DSi would be convinced.

I think this'll lead to the whole DSi Virtual Console thing as well...

But yeah, its not like a FULL new Handheld--
they "tweaked" Gameboy enough times...

This is another stupid venture and a waste of money by NINTENDO themselves. Srsly a larger screen, and bigger buttons wont help much in what is already a dip/fall in the NINTENDO sales and essentially the NINTEDNO fanbase(hint: lack of good wifi/games).

Like Xander said, Ill stick with my blue DSi. Im sure pretty much everyone has or will have a dsi by the end of the year. Pointless to make a new model, in my opinion.

I haven't even moved on to the DSi from my DS Lite. This seems a tad unnecessary for someone who really doesn't need the insignificant screen increase.

I'm still using the original DS. I don't see a need to upgrade when Pokemon is the only game I play.

I heard that as usual Nintendo neither admits or denies that a new DSi is coming out. They said that they think it's reporting was a speculative article.
