Nintendo recently got their hands on the nvidia chip, which is what is used to power things like the Zune HD. With the chip in place nintendo expects the new handheld to be announced at next years Tokyo Game Show.

Thoughts and opinions? (note the above picture is not the new hand held.)

that is the dsi.

I think at this time, a new DS model would be a bit much, considering the DSi is still pretty recent. But, I always love getting better handhelds, so I'll be excited when this is announced.

This would be cool. But with the Dsi, being released what like 3-4 months ago, its too much.

I expect something totally original and new. Not some crap handheld slapped with touchscreen and a different name only to look, in the eyes of the buyer, as some stupid remake of the ds/ds lite/dsi or whatever.

I figure they're gonna announce it at TGS, and then release it a year afterwards so that DSi has time to take more people's money.

My thoughts exactly. Nintendo is too calculating to slip up and release a new system too early. Still this is a reminder to those who thought the DS was the last in line that nintendo has plans for the future.

I read yesterday (don't remember where) Nintendo had commented it was all "rumour and speculation", but the fact they bothered to comment at all shows there's at least something in it, even if it did start via some obscure PC gaming site... :P

Saying "It's expected to be at next year's TGS" is pushing it a bit though, I mean, Nintendo has said nothing, so what's this based on again?

It's not even certain they're working with this chip either, it's just rumoured (again) with no clear sauce that they're "in talks" with the manufacturer.

Good to see nintendo is doing a upgrade for the ds but I think they should have kept it a secret for a while since the early release could hurt them but I hope this new ds upgrade is worth it.

I think that Nintendo will definitely be working on something, but keep it under wraps until the DSi starts to lose its effect.
Shortly after the Game Boy Color was released, the GBA was well in the works, but they held it back for a while to get all that they could out of the Color. I think they may do this again. It's good economics.
(don't expect me to find my sources, it was on TV)
